Air Serbia handles two-millionth passenger

NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia handled its two millionth passenger of the year today, eleven days ahead of 2023. Since the start of the year, Air Serbia operated 22.155 flights, representing an extra 1.713 operations on 2023. The carrier’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “Air Serbia is making better progress each year, as evidenced by the company’s results. In 2022, we carried our two-millionth passenger on October 5, and last year we managed to do so two and a half months earlier, on July 19. Now we have raised the bar even further and today, we carried our two-millionth passenger in 2024. Despite the challenges the aviation industry is facing this summer, we are trying to offer our passengers the best service and be a reliable partner on their trips. The trust our passengers place in us, by choosing the Serbian national airline as their carrier, proves that our dedication has been recognised, which makes us very happy and proud”.

Well JAT broke the 2 million mark in May 1987 to reach its record of 4.531 million by 31 December 1987 so Air Serbia is already 2 months behind. Wishing them luck in trying to break the record.

@anon 12:35 - yes but JAT wasn’t limited to operating to/from Serbia at the time. They had a fleet based on a higher number of airports serviced, as well as capacity to catch. They will surpass the record, might not be this year but within the next 1-2 years it will happen. Shame about the Marathon fall out though as that was going to certainly result in that this year.

Then what is the point of talking about breaking the record? Also, that was 37 years ago and since then the global aviation market in terms of revenue passenger kilometres has increased nearly 4 fold, so JAT's 1987 record would be more like 20 million passengers in today's terms.

For the same reason Olympic and World records get tracked. Some waited for decades to be broken. Same with any long lasting business.

1.8 is 01JAN-30JUN. We are now well into July, it’s not unreasonable in peak summer when they have 800K+ in the month that they can achieve 200K within the first week. What is confusing?
