Air Serbia leases ATR72

Friday, May 8, 2015

Air Serbia has leased an ATR 72-500 aircraft, registered F-GRPK (pictured below), according to German magazine “Skyliner”. The nine-year-old turboprop, to be registered YU-ALV, is currently in Ajaccio in Corsica and is awaiting delivery to Belgrade. The aircraft is on lease from Air Corsica but has previously operated for ČSA Czech Airlines as well. The Serbian carrier is yet to issue an official statement on the aircraft’s lease. The arrival of the ATR will make it the sixth aircraft of its type in the carrier’s fleet and the twentieth overall.

CREW, you comment is so cynical and tactless, that it's borderline childish.

Growth it is, which is reflective of Air Serbia being the dominant airline in the ex-YU region, with the largest fleet. The core Air Serbia fleet, less the Aviolet birds, is far from old, and is an average age fleet, as compared to other airlines in the wider region. At under 10 years, the new ATR can not be classified as being old.

I would like to remind everyone what we learned from the recent horrific crash of the Flight 9525, and all the surrounding analysis. It was clearly and repeatedly stated by the aviation experts that a 24 year old Airbus 320-200 that crashed is not any less safer than a new one if properly maintained.

Personally I like to read the different views of the readers - but I think and recommend ADMIN should be much stricter in the comment section - any post including an offense or insult should be removed asap. Same goes for OTs which are not marked as such.

That would drive off those sometimes rude/arrogant "limelighters" and racists lowering the level of discussions on this great blog when they know they do no longer have a platform.

  6. Hopefully more of these will join the fleet so that JU can add more regional destinations/frequencies. When it comes to regional flying, the Atr is the way to go.

What ASL needs desperately is more routes such as Beirut. Some of those routes are Tehran, Amman, etc. We talked about it yesterday. I am not saying regional expansion is a bad idea, but it was already completed with opening of Sofia, Bucharest, Banja Luka, Budapest, Prague, Tirana, Zagreb, Varna, etc. The European and Middle Eastern expansion still did not occur. ASL just opened Abu Dhabi, Beirut, and Warsaw from non regional destinations.

I really do not understand to why you think that we need more regional expansion. ASL does not fly to Spain, yet you think that it would be better to open Cluj.

    2. Aэrologic21:33

Instead of regional expansion, it would be good enough if they manage to keep the current regional network as it is. And for that they'll need to introduce more "Beirut-like" routes and transatlantic/long-haul ASAP. The airline simple isn't profitable on this scale. Also i think it would be stupid to close BUD before launching transatlantic or trying it as a night flight instead.

JU needs to step up the midnight wave to feed the morning flights ex BEG. Also something more from the 6pm wave as not enough is feeding say JU800 for AUH.

    4. JU absolutely needs to consolidate its regional network because of its split schedule.
People from Bucharest, Sofia, Thessaloniki... don't have daily connections to places such as Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, Copenhagen, Stockholm and so on.

I absolutely agree with JATBEGMEL, they need more flights in the midnight wave, especially to regional destinations, Istanbul included. JU has a great advantage there, the sectors are short and are operated by the Atr so they can be more competitive than Lufthansa or Austrian Airlines; of course, in terms of price, not connectivity.

I simply can't understand why didn't they upgrade Tirana to double daily flights. This winter flights were on average 82% full from what I heard.

      Delete
    5. Anonymous07:35

Nemjee, if I remember correctly during the winter time the flights were 3 p/w. Now they are upgrading them to daily.

Another weird thing is that the thing somebody posted " proposed changes for winter season" also included reducing Tirana back again to 3 weekly. I cant wait to see what happens with that plan, and am hoping for good outcome.

      Delete
    6. My proposal for Tirana would be to do the same thing as with Zagreb and Ljubljana, increase it to double daily ASAP. Unlike these two, Tirana has a bigger potential because you can tap into the lucrative Albania to western Europe market.

For all those interested, here is a link to YU-ALV's history:

Regarding Belgrade-Tirana route : as soon as ASL had switched to daily connection, load factor fell below 60%.

    8. Well, that's to be expected, no? It takes time to fill those additional seats. I am sure that during the summer season loads will be back in the 80s.

    Nice news for ASL indeed!
Yes, we all would like brand new turboprops and jets, but sometimes dreams and reality are different. In time the fleet will get younger, that is the plan at least. So lets stay positive - one extra aircraft in the fleet is great news!!
