No Transavia for Sarajevo
The Dutch low cost airline, Transavia, has cancelled its planned Christmas and New Year service from Amsterdam to Sarajevo. The Air France – KLM subsidiary intended to operate 1 weekly flight from December 16, with services increasing to two per week from January 3 until January 20, 2011, when flights were scheduled to end.B&H Airlines will breathe a sigh of relief as the carrier is to begin its long announced Sarajevo – Amsterdam service on December 2. There have already been a significant number of bookings for the B&H operated flights. It will run the service 3 times per week but will not be in direct competition with Transavia, as previously expected, for the first month.
No explanation has been given as to why Transavia has decided to pull out.
Does B&H carry more connecting passengers to the US or O/D traffic between Amsterdam and Sarajevo?
ReplyDeleteI would guess that it is mostly O&D as why would Transavia announce flights if KLM had an agreement with B&H.
ReplyDeleteI think that B&H doesn't only target O/D traffic. However as management completely lacks any knowledge of aviation industry it wouldn't surprise me that they didn't sign any code share agreements with KLM and that they just expect that customers themselves are going to handle bookings with two companies.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Transavia pulling out of SJJ breaths little hope that JA is actually talking to KLM about codeshare agreements and thus KLM forcing Transavia to pull out as a part of agreement with JA.
What about SKP?

However these flights are not bookable through their on-line selling system.
I think that KLM had negotiated a deal with B&H, in order to give it good enough profit.

Skopje has a long way to go before any serious traffic can come. Not to mention they are building a terminal which can hold 6,000,000 people...hahaha

The question was whther the anounced service AMS-SKP is also cancelled because AMS-SJJ is.
When you build an airport that is a long term investment.
Besides that I think bigger brains than yours have made the reconstruction plan.It is not a poorly socialist state-run enterprise like in other ex-yu countries!
There's no codeshare between KL and JA. But I believe an interline agreement is in place. The AMS-OHD/SKP flight caters to package tour ex-Netherlands. I guess the Dutch are doing a AMS-OHD-SKP-AMS, or vice versa, for their tour.

The real question is when parent TK has had enough of the incompetence at JA and takes a more hardline stance in its day-to-day operations.
Either JA got lucky with Transavia pulling out, or there genuinely isn't enough traffic for almost daily flights to AMS...
I travel this route regularly (>6 times p.y). The complete ignorance of B&H and Sarajevo airport management is indeed stunning. It's so hard to have codeshare for transfer passengers if you don't operate (work)daily.

It remains curious that Skyteam doesnt offer sarajevo connections since Alitalia cancelled..noAir France, no KLM..
On all Sarajevo flights from ZAG/MUC/VIE/BUD you will find AMS originated PAX every day. The PAX demand for this route it not a question. Additionally one can connect via LJU/BEG, but these are too expensive. Same for germanwings CGN-SJJ. It seems they limit the no. of weekly flights to get max prices out of it.
In Dec and Jan i'll be travelling AMS-BUD-SJJ-BUD-AMS. Malev beats them on price, like croatia airlines did most of last year.
