Skywings International 2008 - 2011
The Macedonian charter airline Skywings International (operating under the name Airlift Service), which took over the bulk of passengers from MAT Macedonian Airlines following its demise, is expected to declare bankruptcy, the Kanal 5 network reports. The airline was grounded back in December 2010 due to growing debt. While the airline’s CEO promised Skywings would be back in the air within days, the airline’s faith did not play out that way. Furthermore, Skywings has not applied for an air operator’s certificate (AOC), which is granted by the national aviation authority to an aircraft operator to allow it to use aircraft for commercial purposes. Without it Skywings cannot fly. Most of Skywings’ staff have already left the company, while its sales office in Skopje has been closed. Passengers who purchased tickets with the airline cannot refund them. A similar scenario took place with the country’s former national carrier, MAT Macedonian Airlines, which was grounded in 2009 and declared bankruptcy in 2010. Skywings International operated flights out of both Skopje and Ohrid to several major European hubs.
So who's going to be flying to this giant Skopje airport that was yesterday's post now that Skywings has gone belly up?

ReplyDeleteOh my... Skopje is getting further and further away from their primary goal, becoming a regional hub. Maybe when they are referring to the region maybe they are referring to FYROM, east Albania, southern Serbia and south-west Bulgaria? ;)
ReplyDeleteThis just proves how unsustainable the aviation business is in that country. So why on Earth would Turkish Airlines invest in there?
nothing new : )
ReplyDeleteWizz Air is launching Skopje - London Luton, starting June 20th.
ReplyDelete3 times a week (1-3-5--) in peak, 2 times a week (---4--7) in the shoulder.
Let's hope it's the first of many.
Good morning, nationalistic morons here on the forums
ReplyDeleteWTF , why they introduced London , ppl need visa for UK , maybe was better idea if they started with some other city …
ReplyDeleteAnyway good news at the end : )
it really looks like its over for Skywings. (dodgy airline from the start, no discussion )
ReplyDeleteWizz Air: flying from mid June to mid September
i really hope there is a market for this, having in mind how difficult is to obtain a visa for the UK
However, a fantastic news!
Skywings' aircrafts, what were they, were they leased or owned? Also, what happened to Mat's fleet?

ReplyDeleteTO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
ReplyDeleteWE, EMPLOYEES OF AIRLIFT SERVICE STRONGLY DENIED ALL THE INFORMATION ANNOUNCED ON KANAL 5 - TV STATION CLOSE TO MAT AIRWAYS. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF RENEWING OF THE EXISTING AOC, AND IT CAN BE CHECKED IN THE APPROPRIATE AGENCY - CAA OF MACEDONIA.
TIME WILL SHOW THAT INFORMATION GIVEN BY SOME ANONYMOUS SOURCE IS NOT TRUE AND VALID.
from todays Utrinski:
ReplyDeleteWizz Air are "thinking" of flights to Frankfurt Hahn, BCN,AMS and CDG

Another one bites the dust. Shame.
ReplyDeleteMaybe there shouldn't be a national carrier in the country until the government is ready to fully support it.
I do know that everyone wants a national carrier but why don't they just lobby for more lowcost flights and who knows maybe the same scenario as in Bratislava occurs, a low cost airline makes its base there?
SALE OF TICKETS FROM THE US TO BELGRADE BEGINS ON THE FIRST OF MARCH!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWELCOME!
I know that some people here are not that happy that its Ryan International operating the flights but it's a big step to have direct flights from the US to Belgrade.
@last anonymous
ReplyDeleteHow the hell is this relevant to the damn topic of "Skywings goes bankrupt". There's a time and a place for everything!
AirKoryo,
ReplyDeleteOf course who else would protest than the regular basher of Ryan International.
It's big news and it needs to be shared here. Since there is no forum there is no other way to do it.
And seriously, your tone just like your comments regarding the US-Serbia flights are getting really annoying. They are not productive at all, just plain useless bashing.
BYE BYE Skywings - and good riddance. Another high cost, mafia financed money laundering piece of sh!t.
ReplyDeleteBring on WizzAir.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteGo find/create a forum then, if not mention it in a thread about the flight to th U.S. Also what is so important about these flights? You don't even have solid information yet on dates, a/c operations etc.
The whole point of my comment was to inform that from th 15th all the deatils will be known.
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned on the site they can't disclose any information due to the American government.
On the other hand, whenever there is news on these flights all you do is bash. So if you are recomending me to go and create a forum for these news then I recomend to you to do the same where you can spread your hate.
Your attitude is getting old and annoying.
FUCK YOU AJAN DZAFEROVSKI FUCKING TORBESCH
