Future look of Novi Sad Airport
The government of Serbia’s northern province of Vojvodina has announced its intention to develop Novi Sad’s recreational airport into a commercial one, despite it being only seventy kilometres away from the capital Belgrade. According to plans set out by the local government, the airport will cater for low cost flights, business aviation as well a cargo flights. The design of the new terminal has been completed and shares similar proportions to the airport in Tivat.The Prime Minister of Vojvodina, Bojan Pajtić, says, “The airport will be beautiful, functional and will serve as a monument to Novi Sad, Vojvodina and Serbia”. He adds that the airport will likely be financed through a public private partnership with construction expected to begin in 2014. Novi Sad Airport has a single runway and is some fifteen kilometres north of the city. In 2004, the private charter airline Di Air, from Montenegro, operated a promotional service from Tivat to Novi Sad with some twenty passengers onboard the L-410 Turbolet aircraft. According to a state study, out of all the airports in Serbia, the one in Novi Sad experiences the least fog affected days.
Whether Novi Sad needs an airport is up for serious debate. The city is close to Belgrade and is connected with a highway directly to Nikola Tesla Airport. Furthermore, Novi Sad Airport is not part of the central government’s airport development strategy which outlines the development of Užice Airport in western Serbia and Belgrade’s second airport in the suburb of Batajnica (which is even closer to Novi Sad) in the following few years. Serbia will open its newest commercial airport, in Kraljevo, next month
this ain't gonna happen. just an election hoax. there's no need for a new airport that close to BEG. if they were talking about Sombor or Subotica then it's ok, but Novi Sad? come on...

DeleteThis is complete nonsense and just a money laundering scheme by the corrupt Vojvodina authorities. Even Uzice and Batajnica airports are of highly questionable purpose (and even Kraljevo and Nis won't be making any profit), let alone this stupid idea.

ReplyDeleteNo need. BJY is actually in Vojvodina, just a small part of one of the runways is inside borders of City of Belgrade.
DeleteBut, this is really ridiculous. It takes not more than 30 minutes to drive from Novi Sad to BJY, and not more than 40 to BEG, even less with bypass built. A decent train (not ICE kind of train, just decent) should cover the distance in half an hour.

ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of us thinking the same, especially now with Tomica the president, and even more likely if he makes next Government with Ivica mali Sloba& Voja "the european". I don't doubt at all it could lead not only to new airport, but to the new airline of Vojvodina as well
DeleteEvery time i come here i read something about a new airport. 70% of the people there never fly's and the airports grow or get newer every day. Sometimes i'm a shamed that my roots are so stupid..

ReplyDeleteSadly, I do believe Vojvodina is trying to slowly go on the road to independence which is sad, and I thought for a while whether or not Novi Sad would get an airport, because in their future country, they can't work without an airport.

At this point it is really unnecessary. BEG is only about 70km away, 50 minute drive. There is really no demand, today BEG handles about 3.5 mil pax per year. Well under capacity for the airport. When and if, that figure reaches close to 7-8 mil, then we can begin to talk about NS airport and Batajnica. Until then it is a waste of time even to mention it.
ReplyDeleteI would rather see the money invested in rail infrastructure, with priority given to a high speed rail from NS to BEG, and Beograd centar. That line later extended to Subotica and central and southern Serbia, and beyond.

As long as Vojvodina collects the money from Belgrade PAX
Vojvodina deserves airport more than BEG since it contributes more to GDP of Serbia than any other part.

It is ridiculous to consider Batajnica airport could serve Vojvodina just because of few meters being in Vojvodina teritory.

ReplyDeleteVojvodina needs to redefine it's status and finaly take it's future in it's own hands therefore it deserves to have an airport.
ReplyDeleteWe have been ignored for too long, and our money have been taken for financing wars and development of Belgrade and southern parts of Serbia... Vojvodinians have waited more than 20 years for Serbia to finish Subotica - Belgrade highway (it is not finished yet!), our railroads have been devastated (because lack of financing), our development strategies are constantly refused by the centralist regime from Belgrade etc... And think twice before you point your finger to Vojvodinian authorities and just inform yourselves about Vojvodina's jurisdictions by the Serbian consisution. Sadly, I think that this news is just another election hoax becuse Mr. Pajtic is from the political party which is based in Belgrade (therefore he must listen to what his bosses from Belgrade has to say)
Yes, and that centrist party from Belgrade won a landslide victory in Vojvodina at these elections, so your theory of how Vojvodina is seeking to be independent is completely false.

There are two possible reasons behind this idea:
