Jat’s new seats await new passengers

The Serbian national carrier, Jat Airways, has recorded its busiest July since 2000. The airline welcomed 180.192 passengers, an increase of 15% compared to the same month last year. A total of 121.336 passengers used Jat’s scheduled services, while a further 58.856 used the carrier’s charter flights. The numbers were accomplished despite a decrease in the number of scheduled traffic. The airline sees an average of 6.000 passengers per day.

So far this year, Jat Airways has welcomed 755.555 passengers on board, an increase of 12% compared to 2011 or up 10% on scheduled flights. The airline had its busiest May since 2000 and recorded its best June results since 1991. The average cabin load factor, in the first seven months of the year, stood at 74%, which is up 6% on last year.

Meanwhile, the Serbian carrier had an eventful end to the traditional working week. Early Friday morning, just prior to landing in Belgrade from Mallorca, a fight broke out between two passengers onboard. The crew managed to restrain the two men which were held for questioning at Belgrade Airport before being let off with a warning. According to media reports, the fight broke out over the shared use of the armrest. Passengers said they were frightened when the fight eventually broke out but praised the crew for their swift reaction. Furthermore, on Friday afternoon the Serbian carrier operated an evacuation flight from the besieged Syrian capital Damascus. Serbian citizens were evacuated from the city as civil war rages in the country.
