Soon in Tivat?
The Montenegrin government has begun talks with Ryanair over potential flights from Manchester to Tivat this coming summer season. It comes a year after the no frills airline declined an offer from the Montenegrin government to launch services from London, Milan and Brussels to Podgorica. “We have begun talks with Ryanair and we are expecting a positive outcome”, the Deputy Minister for Sustainable Development and Tourism, Željka Radak Kukavčić, said in a statement. She added that the government has made it a priority to bring low cost airlines to Montenegro and improve its connectivity with the rest of the continent. Despite relying on tourism, Montenegro is currently not served by a single scheduled low cost airline.
In March 2012, the Montenegrin government said it had negotiated with Ryanair to launch flights to Podgorica from three cities in June. However, the announcement was followed by an angry reaction from the low cost airline, unhappy that details of the agreement were made public. It then decided not to sign the agreement with the Montenegrin government citing expensive fees at Podgorica Airport as its main motive for staying away. Tour operators blamed the government, claiming it purposely sabotaged the negotiating process to protect Montenegro Airlines.
Within the former Yugoslavia, Ryanair is only present in Croatia where it operates flights to several airports on a seasonal summer basis. From April, the airline will be setting up a base in Zadar. So far, Alitalia has already announced that it will be launching scheduled flights from Rome to Podgorica this summer season while Air Berlin and Condor will inaugurate flights to Tivat from Munich and Frankfurt respectively. Air Berlin has in previous years run seasonal summer flights from Nuremberg to Tivat.
Hmmm if we are only talking about Manchester-Tivat then it seems more realistic than what was offered before.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this flight might be interesting for those heading to/from Dubrovnik?
DUbrovnik is already served by plenty of low-cost carriers from the UK, and I think as there is no competition on Manchester-Tivat route, Ryanair will not be as cheap on this route!
DeleteLow cost or charter flights?
DeleteLow cost like easyJet, jet2, flybe...
DeleteI HATE RYAN AIRRRRR
ReplyDeleteSo? :) That won't change a thing.
Delete+1. I HATE RYANMAIR ALSO. I WISH THEY COULD GO BUST! Aviation would be better without them.
DeleteYup, with 300 aircraft they can easily be the national carrier of the whole ex-Yu! :) If you HATE them, don't fly with them. Easy-peasy.
DeleteEL AL has opened its regional offices in Belgrade, it will cover the markets of Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia.
ReplyDeleteHopefully those parasites will never operate any flights to this part of the world, or go bankrupt first!
DeleteI hope you dont mean El Al but Ryan Air???
DeleteEL AL DID NOT open its office in Belgrade, especially not a "regional office". EL AL is represented in Belgrade by TAL Aviation Balkans, which is EL AL's GSA (general sales agent), the same as, for example GLOBEAIR group is in Zagreb, for Cathay Pacific and Etihad. The differences between an office, especially regional representation, and a GSA are incomparable. And I don't know what it has to do with Ryanair and Montenegro. Oh, sorry, I forgot you are "the leader in the region" -:)
DeleteWhatever the office is, it will still represent the sales for the entire region. Apparently even EL AL recognized Belgrade's potential. Sorry if you have a problem with it.
DeleteI don't like Ryanair: Dirty planes, cramped seats and rude staff. But, I think this is the best that Montenegro can get considering it's YM protectionist policy.
ReplyDeleteIt's your option. Others will do. You may stick to your complimentary pretzels, baggage included in price and yeah the BIG, tasty meal! :)
DeleteAnonymous @10:22,
DeleteYou should respect the opinions of others without making fun of them. Especially when the comment above yours was not the usual anti-Ryanair style.
And just for the record, legacy carriers offer far more than that. Your comment just goes to show that you have not flown much using legacy carriers- I guess the loss is yours.
No, as a matter of fact I NEVER flew with a "legacy" carrier. Maybe I did and saved lots of money and visited more places in Europe thanks to Ryanair. Good luck and don't forget to send us some pretzels!
DeleteI guess your bitterness comes from your inability to afford a legacy. We will salute you from decent airport close to the cities. Have fun in the fields while waiting to board your Ryanair flight!
DeleteI never said that I flew legacy's all the time, although I must say I prefer them but I don't always have the luxury to fly them. I prefer Norwegian, easyJet, Vueling, WizzAir.
DeletePeople complain about Ryanair and their service etc but its better to at least have the possible to fly with them. Anyway, at least this year they want to fly to Tivat. No tourist in their right mind wants to arrive in Podgorica when Tivat is already on the coast. Flying from Manchester makes sense as it opens the whole of North England to Montenegro. Hopefully this will lead to more flights from Germany (Frankfurt-Hahn etc), Brussels and some other big Ryanair bases. But considering the laughable way the Montenegrin government handled the situation last year, I will not believe this story until I see a Ryanair plane touching in Tivat for myself!!!
