Rijeka Airport anticipates passenger boom |
New Croatian start-up, Limitless Airways, launched operations last Saturday from its base in Rijeka with plans to further expand its fleet and destination network in the coming months. It is owned and operated by the well-established Swedish tour operator Scandjet. Unlike recent airline start-ups in the country, Limitless Airways is registered in Croatia and has its own Air Operators Certificate (AOC). This summer, Limitless will operate charter flights from Rijeka to several cities in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, with a Croatian-registered Airbus A320 operated by local crew. The airline will maintain services during the winter months as well, with flights to Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco. As a result, Rijeka Airport would be open throughout the year, with commercial services during the off-season as well. “The launch of this new airline with its base in Rijeka will help us achieve our goal of handling at least 180.000 passengers during the year”, Rijeka Airport’s Managing Director, Tomislav Palalić, says.
Limitless Airways is expected to handle some 25.000 passengers during the summer and will lease another A320 during the peak season. “To satisfy the market demand, Scandjet has been using services of more than thirty different airline companies and a variety of supporting service providers. As demand continues to grow, Scandjet decided to invest in its own airline - Limitless Airways”, the company says. It adds, “On May 23, Limitless Airways officially started with its operations. In cooperation with Scandjet Travel, our first travellers were from Sweden and Finland, returning to their homes from holiday. After that, we flew new tourists back to Croatia, from Gothenburg and Kokkola. Many more visits between Finland, Sweden and Croatia are yet to come”. Limitless Airways operates its A320 in an all-economy class layout with its cabin featuring the slim Air France shorthaul seats.
During last winter, Rijeka Airport undertook the biggest overhaul of its passenger terminal since opening its doors in 1970 in anticipation of strong passenger growth. Furthermore, the airport will build a hangar in cooperation with Limitless Airways so maintenance work on its aircraft can be carried out at the airline’s home base. In 2014, Rijeka Airport handled just over 140.000 passengers. A number of airlines maintain services to the city, however, all flights are operated on a seasonal summer basis. In addition to Limitless’ new flights, Croatia Airlines launched new seasonal services from the coastal city to Munich on March 29, complementing its existing summer flights from Rijeka to London Heathrow.

ReplyDeleteWas it not more to do with Scandjet moving away from the Zadar area as the local population were not interested in opening tourist attractions, restaurants etc...for tourists out of the 8 week "season." People in Croatia really need a reality check as airlines like Ryanair, Norwegian and Germanwings have invested in flying April to October and people will simply not return in future years.

DeleteSummer season for all Croatian coastal airports will be tremendous. Look at Split : easyJet 19 routes, SAS 9 routes, Norwegian 8 routes, Germanwings 7 routes, Vueling 6 routes. And Croatia Airlines 25 regular routes plus many charters. How awesome and enviable. What a revenue coming from tourism for the country. Sincere congratulations on such a success.

What's truly great is that they will also have winter flights.
CTN planned fleet utilization for this summer is really extremely high, no spare block hours.
DeleteThe A320 registered 9A-SLA is 17 years old. It was operated first as B-2362 for China Eastern Airlines until 2014.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if in Croatia we finally get a scheduled airline that could really compete against Croatia Airlines. Until then, this is not much because it is just charters where you buy tickets through a tour operator.

Aerodrom sve trenutne radove i prosirenja finansira sam, bez kredita a za buduca prosirenja planira stratesko partnerstvo, dakle, odgovor je ne, ne odnosi se na aerodrom.

TK flies to so many destinations that its impossible to predict really. When I looked at the map to where TK flies I was stunned, some small secondary airports in a African country. I would not be suprised if eventually they start Nis or Osijek. That talk about getting the A380 has been going on forever and it was rumored they will get it from Malaysian Airlines who are not really utilizing them.

there have been cargo flights from BEG for the last 3 days with Egypt Air Cargo A300. One is also expected tomorrow. Anyone know what they are transporting? It would be nice if we had regular flights like those one for sure

This with Delta happened following a sequence of events, look it mentions huge dellay etc. OTP flight was lagged only 20 minutes, which is common, Don't think it played any role.

The problem with ASL LF is that its unpredictable and it is common to have the outbound flight empty while the inbound is full and vice versa. This is because "waves" are not yet organized so sometimes there is only a few destination to connect from BEG. We discussed this many many times.
Deleteooooo I flew the same flight today this 10Č26 claims to have flown too. THE PLANE WAS PACKED. Probably some 4-5 empty seats in Economy, there were also three Business class passengers. Now is the question WHO HERE IS LYING?
