Rijeka Airport anticipates 50% growth in 2015

Rijeka Airport to break all time passenger record

Rijeka Airport, in north western Croatia, expects to double its passenger numbers this year and handle the greatest volume of travellers since opening its doors to the public in 1970. Estimates suggest that almost 200.000 passengers will use the airport this year. The strong growth is in part due to Limitless Airways, a newly established Croatian-registered airline operating on behalf of the Nordic tour operator Scandjet. This summer, Limitless is running charter flights from Rijeka to several cities in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, with a Croatian-registered Airbus A320 operated by local crew. Furthermore, the airline will maintain services during the winter months as well, with flights to Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco.

The Deputy Prefect of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Marko Boras Mandić, says 2016 is a crucial year for Rijeka Airport. “The airport must now show all of its potential. This year we expect to record 50% passenger growth compared to last year. In 2014, the airport operated with a profit for the first time”, Mr Boras Mandić said. Limitless Airways alone is expected to carry some 25.000 passengers during the summer. However, the growth has come at the expense of Zadar Airport, which was the Croatian gateway to thousands of tourists traveling with Scandjet in the past.


During last winter, Rijeka Airport undertook the biggest overhaul of its passenger terminal since opening its doors in 1970 in anticipation of the strong passenger growth. Furthermore, the airport will build a hangar in cooperation with Limitless Airways so maintenance work on its aircraft can be carried out at the airline’s home base. A number of airlines maintain services to the city, however, all flights are operated on a seasonal summer basis. In addition to Limitless’ new flights, Croatia Airlines launched new seasonal services from the coastal city to Munich on March 29, complementing its existing summer flights from Rijeka to London Heathrow.

      Nije glupost, jer je u Rijeci mnogo Srba. Svakako bi bila bolja linija BEG-RJK nego li BEG-VAR. Da ne pricam o Krku, Cresu, i gore letovalistima kao sto su Crikvenica ili Novi Vinodolski. Pa necu valjda u Novi Vinodolski ici avionom do Zagreba?!

      Da, Rijeka ima popriličan broj Srba. Mnogo je jugoslavenskih oficira ostalo u Rijeci. Srbija ima konzulat u Rijeci, to dovoljno govori. ATR bi se sigurno punio triput tjedno.

      bravo!! o tome se radi. I ne samo to, govorim o sezonskim letovima, dakle od juna do septembra. Uostalom, po statistikama koje imam, poslednjih godina tokom letnje sezone na Bracu je svakog dana izmedju 500-800 beogradjana. Dakle, samo beogradjana, a gde je jos bar stotinu ostalih iz Srbije. Jedan atr bi mogao cak i dva puta nedeljno da popuni let za Brac. Uostalom, nije se provlacila informacija u aprilu da bi mogao da se uvede carter za Brac tek onako. Mnogi bi rekli sta ce nam let za Brac kad imamo Split, ali to je sve cimanje.. Danas ljudi zele sto pre da stignu do odredista, posebno ako je odmor u pitanju. Nas narod se lagano vraca u Hrvatsku na letnji odmor sto je divno i u to treba ulagati. Uostalom, vec je pocelo da se prica i o Zadru za sledecu godinu.

Srednjodalmatinski su otoci prepoznati brand čiji se avio gosti nažalost u potpunosti oslanjaju na splitsku zračnu luku koja puca po šavovima (nešto je promijeniti pokušao Express Airways, ali sumnjam da ATR42 može napraviti neku veliku promjenu). AirSerbia bi sigurno jednu rotaciju mogla odraditi za Brač umjesto za Split; Croatia bi za Brač trebala letjeti svakodnevno, makar za Dubrovnik via Brač kako bi se gosti iz Europe mogli bez problema preko Zagreba povezati s Bračom i okolnim otocima; charteri koji pune otočne hotele bi trebali sa <100 seaterima letjeti za Brač, a ne s većim letjelicama za Split... Sve je to stvar dogovora između zračnih luka, prijevoznika, turističkih zajednica...

    10. Permutovao sam mesta, to RIJEKE ima 5 sati. Sa 5 minuta na granici i bez guzve oko ZG ja sam stizao za 4:40 pred Rijeku. 140 na sat.

      There are rumours that the service Rijeka-Munich will stay there year-round due to the extremely good loads as well as domestic line Rijeka-Split-Dubrovnik-Rijeka.

      Apparently Croatia will have a great season as many European holidaymakers gave up on Tunisia and Greece and have found alternative arrangements. This will add up to the generic annual growth and probably result in an extraordinary increase in the number of tourists/passengers.

    Rijeka is doing a great job this year. Just look at their Facebook page - they are upgrading the page every single day with photos and news from the airport. They also have flights from Tel Aviv with 757, Estonian Air charters etc. Although Rijeka is surounded by Zagreb, Pula and Zadar, they are doing the best. Hope that they will continue working on their terminal.

      Zadar hasnt published statistics for June. They had great numbers in March, April and May, but from June they probably started to fail. Ryanair reduced flights, Limitless suspended flights as well as Eurolot. This year will be hard for Zadar, that is obvious. If they reach numbers from last year (496 000), that will be a huge success.

      This RJK-ZAD comparison shows best what competent, or incompetent management means for an airport. Both RJK and ZAD have new CEO's. RJK FINALLY managed to get rid of the guy who was in charge for something like 20+ years, and destroyed the airport and the destination. At the same time, extremely succesfull lady who was in charge of ZAD, who increased traffic, increased income, refurbished and expanded terminal, brought new operators, and above all was beloved by the employees, was released from duty. And it shows.
