New Bosnian national airline to launch with two aircraft |
The Central German Tourism Development Company (CGTDC) has ruled out buying a stake in Bosnia's embattled B&H Airlines and will instead form its own carrier to be based in Sarajevo with two aircraft. As a result, the German company, founded in May this year, has denied statements made by the Federation Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina last week that it is in talks to take over B&H's name, Air Operator's Certificate, employees and debt. The CEO of CGTDC, Norbert Dotterweich, says the company will create Bosnia and Herzegovina's new national carrier, which it will wholly own. "The Federation will have neither a direct or indirect stake in the airline", Mr Dotterweich said yesterday. He added, "Our discussion with the Federation Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina was not aimed at taking over B&H Airlines, because the situation there is irreparable. Instead, we wanted to check market conditions for the creation and development of a new airline".
Last week, the Federal Minister for Transport and Communication, Denis Lasić, said, "The German company is prepared to take over B&H Airlines, including the company's debts. Our aim is for B&H Airlines to keep its name and save jobs, as well as for the company to recover. We are on the right path to find a solution to this problem". CGTDC says it might take on some of B&H's employees as it will be in need of aviation professionals. The German company aims to set up a new carrier in Sarajevo and launch operations on December 1 with two aircraft - one Boeing 737-600 and one Bombardier Dash 8 Q300. It will initially operate with a foreign Air Operator's Certificate (AOC). In 2016, it will hire local crew and staff before obtaining a local AOC, Mr Dotterweich said, outlining future plans.
There has been increased scrutiny in CGTDC since it announced its interest in the Bosnian aviation market. In 2014, the same management team founded Rostock Airways which purchased Innsbruck-based Air Alps. The Austrian carrier had previously ceased operations. However, just two weeks after resuming services under its new owners, Air Alps suspended all services. B&H Airlines has been grounded since July 2 after the country’s regulator suspended its AOC on a temporary basis until October. The move came in response to the airline’s dire financial state and mounting debt, which amounted to 20.3 million euros by the end of 2014, and has since further grown. Earlier this year, the Iraqi-backed Bosnian Wand Airlines (BWA) also aimed to set up a base in Sarajevo but ultimately failed.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out
ReplyDeleteIt will be another failed project like Bosnian Wand Airlines but will probably get support from the Federation with a few hundred thousand euros.
ReplyDeleteIf my comprehension is good, this airline will be a virtual carrier, at least for the beginning. Not a very encouraging fact. Margins are tight enough for normal carriers without having to share the profit with an operating airline.
ReplyDeleteIt is likely that the fleet plan will change, but I must say that their current plan is interesting to say the least. The B736 and Q300 have fallen out of favor. If they are worried about overcapacity, they should go for a regional jet. They don't need the baggage capacity nor the range of the B736.
Just like the Bosnian Pyramid - a figment of someone's imagination ...

Oh man, what a con job in the making! Yeah, German (read respectable) businessmen wants to set up a new airline based in Sarajevo, using two different air craft types, flying to where? I just hope the Fed Gov dosen't give them any cash. The ONLY route is to offer a deal, similar to SKP, to a low cost carrier.
ReplyDelete+1 a con job indeed
Deleteor scam. pathetic.
Deletethey will fly under Air Alps until they get a bosnian liscence
ReplyDeleteIn this country, it seems everything must be owned by strangers in order to exist. Local politicians steal and dismantle everything which is owned by the country.
ReplyDeleteSta ce u Sarajevu? Q300 je idealan za Banja Luka Beograd, Banja Luka Bec, Banja Luka Budimpesta, Banja Luka Skoplje Banja Luka Venecija Trevizo, Banja Luka Zurich, Banja Luka Bergamo.
ReplyDeleteYou missed Banja Luka -Sudzuk!
DeleteBanja Luka - Skoplje LMFAO
You missed Banja Luka Innsbruck.
DeleteAnd BL - Tuzla
DeleteBNXTZL would be most important since Wizz serves TZL.
DeleteWhy does it have to be a "national" carrier? Why not a private airline?
ReplyDeleteEvo šta srpsko mnjenje misli o Er Srbiji

Admin zašto je konverzacija o AIR Serbiji uklonjena?
DeleteKoga boli uvo šta o Er Srbiji misli "srpsko javno mnjenje"?
Do grla.
DeleteDa li avio kompanije u Hrvatskoj traze poreklo imovine pre kupovine biznis klase?

INN-NS, it seems those criminals are your idols.
DeleteGood luck. Sorry to say but this airline will need it.
ReplyDeleteit sounds like a bad joke !

ReplyDeleteThe Federation government is gold. They lied that these people are taking over B&H Airlines that even the phantom airline had to deny it.
ReplyDeleteJel ovo novi Bosnian Wand Airlines, Sky Srpska? Kako ce se zvati? Gdje ce letiti?
ReplyDeleteJel i dalje za Cirih, jedna destinacija, a dva aviona? Kakve cijene u planu?
Takoder i Bec, gdje Austrian leti dva puta dnevno. Mozda i Rim sezonski.
Some people will never learn. Bosnia, Macedonia, and even Montenegro for that matter do not need a national carrier.
ReplyDeleteNi Slovenija ni Hrvatska ni Srbija. O cemu lupetas?
DeleteAjde ti budi realan.
DeleteDo kraja godine niko nece kupiti CA ni AA. Budi ti realan.
DeleteIt is true, they don't need a national carrier. Hungary doesn't have one, and to be honest Austria and Switzerland don't need it, Lufthansa can be their carrier.
DeleteFirst Anonymous, so Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Hungary dont need it, but Serbia and Croatia do? What a joke. Spusti se na zemlju.
Delete@ last anonymous: Sorry, I left out Slovenia. Croatia and Serbia are off the list because they are in a position to run self-sustaining operations. In reality those countries would do just fine without "national" airlines either.
