Adria Airways introduces new in-flight entertainment system |
Adria Airways has presented its new on board in-flight entertainment system, which will allow passengers to browse through the carrier’s new digital in-flight magazine, play games, chat, give feedback and order meals though their personal tablet computers and mobile phone devices. The service is being powered by the Dutch-based AirFi Box, a portable, low cost and flexible alternative for airlines without on board Wi-Fi capabilities. The AirFi Box is a compact, portable, battery-powered and self-scaling Wi-Fi network, not in any way connected to the aircraft. It is designed to be integrated into existing airline logistics and suitable to create an alternative to in-flight entertainment for all flights.
In a statement, the Slovenian carrier said, “Adria OnAir is the new name that brings together all our efforts to provide passengers with exhaustive travel information and in-flight entertainment. Our hope is that this new service will take communication with our passengers to a new level”. The AirFi platform provides passengers with a large range of options when they connect their own tablets or smartphones to the network, including catering orders, multiplayer games, on-board chat, destination information, enrolment in airline loyalty programs or providing feedback. TUI Airlines Netherlands is just one of the carriers to have started using the system recently, while Estonian Air, which ceased operations in late October, also utilised the technology.
Adria's new OnAir entertainment system debuted yesterday on its service from Ljubljana to Munich. In order to use the new entertainment options, passengers must keep their devices in airplane mode and connect onto the “Adria OnAir” Wi-Fi network. After opening their web browser, passengers will be redirected to the new OnAir entertainment portal. "The introduction of this new service was quite a complex project, which included the involvement of many employees across different departments. We faced many technological challenges as it was necessary to meet all safety standards and ensure flawless functioning of the portal", Iztok Franko, Adria's IT and Marketing Director said. The Slovenian carrier will continue to upgrade its in-flight entertainment system and will refresh its content in a timely manner. Last week Adria introduced a new-look website, which complements the new on board entertainment features.

Looks quite nice actually
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
ReplyDeleteAdria and Air Serbia are moving forward with entertainment. Time to stop twiddling your thumbs Croatia Airlines.
ReplyDeleteNot bad. I would prefer actual wi-fi but this is not bad at all and I assume that the alternative would be too expensive. This is a good way to pass the time. I like the design of the page.
ReplyDeleteWell done Adria. Good on you.
ReplyDeleteGreat
ReplyDeleteDo they charge for this service or is it free?
ReplyDeleteI think it's free.
DeleteKod njih ni voda nije free.
DeleteNi kokice ne dobijas free kada ides u kino.

DeleteYou compare apples and oranges : the Price of a bus ride and a Train ride is not comparable with the Price of a ticket on a legacy carrier. So, to charge passengers for 200ml of water on a flight for which they have paid at least 250 euro is just outrageous.
Furthermore, most legacy carriers (unlike Adria) stll give you a drink for free.
Aegean between LJU and ATH (which is going to be under 2 hours flight) is going to offer a predeparture sweet, full bar service (includes spirits, beers, wines), a hot meal with desert, and tea or coffee run afterwards.
DeleteYou can order as many drinks as you want and they wont charge you for anything.
TK's service is similar as well.
JP charging 3 Euros for a tiny bottle of water is a disgrace.
watching the alps out of the window on LJU-MUC flight is the only entertainment I need
DeleteWhat if you don't have a window seat? ;)
Deleteoops
DeleteWhile I am not big fan of food on short flights, water is the thing which should be free and mandatory for carriers to provide even on low costs. Especially nowadays when you are not allowed to carry your bottled water with you. Why would I pay 4 euros for a small bottle of water on the plane or Munich/Frankfurt airport since there are no water fountains.
DeleteRandom, but how do you guys who travel frequently deal with this issue? Its not really sanitary to fill the bottle at the airport washroom, and many time the water is HOT all the time on purpose. (munich I think is an example)
This summer it was just horrible.. i broke all my principles and bought water on the plane.
DeleteAfter hand luggage control airport prices aint lower either:eur2 for 500ml.. So, both aiports and carriers take advantage of the situation big time: BUT, thanks for the tip with filling a bottle in the washroom ;)
ps its not about the cost of water, it can be 10 cents and it still would be outrageous to charge money for it.
Considering their financial state, I hope they didn't spend too much money on this.
ReplyDeleteKnowing Adria, I would say they spent a whole bunch of money and signed a dozen of new consultation contracts.

INN-NS
Gde da idu :
DeleteVIE,FRA,CDG, LHR,ARN i naravno CPH.
INN-NS
Well, if the old Singapore Airlines doesn't fly to IKA, AMM or TBS I don't see any need for the new wings of Europe also known as "Singapore Airlines of the Balkans" to fly there either.
DeleteDo tamo ih vodi njihova avio kompanija. Ne mozes svakome uspesno uskakati u posao.
DeleteIt's too late to launch IKA now. The market has become rather saturated as a lot of carriers have announced flights, Air France being the latest to do it.

How the hell they always find the way to eat taxpayers money for useless new
ReplyDeleteconsultation/maintenance contracts for friends ... when even water needs to paid 3 euros x small bottle.

SkyTeam u ofanzivi u Zagrebu.

Great news for passengers in Zagreb!
DeleteINN-NS
KLM će letjeti sa 737-700
DeleteKLM in summer 2016 season plans to increase capacity to Croatia, based on this week’s schedule update. From 29MAR16 to 04SEP16, the Skyteam member plans to operate Boeing 737-700 on Amsterdam – Zagreb route on daily basis, instead of KLMcityhopper Embraer E190 aircraft.

OT: Qatar Airways CEO on why they operate some routes even when losing money on them: "Only between 25-30% of destinations make profit. Another 40% are breakeven. The remaining are losers. But you cannot only operate as an airline where you make profits."
ReplyDeletefrom: http://airwaysnews.com/blog/2015/12/10/qr-announces-new-a350-destinations-campaign-and-offices/
JU haters that complained JFK route will lose money, you just got schooled by QR CEO!
QR is not an airline to look up to. They have poor treatment of their crew, recent incident with their ac in MIA and the way it was handled is poor, and I don't think that airline ever posted in its history a single financial report to the public. The goal for every company is to make a profit.
DeletePlus, let's not forget that QR is a national project, profitability was never a priority. Growth and brand awareness were.
Delete...and the way non-LCC companies that have a hub model make profit is to have some routes that are losing money, but are important for number of reasons and help with overall profit. Percentage mix is different at QR but essentials are the same. Discussion on a.net has more details.
DeleteYeah, QR, who drills money like of the oil rigs and JU..,
ReplyDeleteWrong, not just QR, many airlines have money losing long haul routes:
Delete"Air France says only 50% of their long-haul routes are currently profitable"
source: Air France says only 50% of their long-haul routes are currently profitable
Singapore Airlines Q1 2015 Maybank Investment Bank report: "In particular, he highlighted that SIA’s long-haul routes have been almost consistently loss-making since FY09"

It's normal part of the overall airline business.
AF link: http://investir.lesechos.fr/actions/actualites/le-pdg-d-air-france-n-ecarte-pas-de-fermer-d-autres-lignes-long-courrier-1067845.php
DeletePlease don't compare economies of Singapore or France with Serbia! Some countries can afford losses, some can't!
DeleteWhen I give QR example, you say they drill money! When I give you Air France and Singapore, you don't want to accept it! What do you want, long haul examples from Bosnia and Albania?
DeleteWhat a loser, this is how business is done everywhere and it does not matter if you accept it or not. Overall, JU will grow long term and make more money with addition of long haul flights and it's awesome that you are not being asked for opinion!
It's not just that, both Air France and Singapore Airlines were affected by Emirates and Qatar and to a lesser extent by Etihad and Turkish Airlines.
DeleteSingapore Airlines was basically kicked out of the Kangaroo Route which was a very important source of income for them. Aviation in Asia is rapidly changing and SIA is adapting better to these new realities than AF is to the ones in Europe.
Just look at how many European airlines have either downsized their operations in BKK or have completely withdrawn from there. If I remember correctly LH has withdrawn from BKK because they could no longer compete with Thai, Emirates, Qatar... despite there being 600.000 German tourists in Thailand every year.
Finally you got a point! Singapore, Qatar and France can afford losing money, Albania and Bosnia can not and that is why they don't have long haul. Can Serbia bi like Singapore, Qatar and France or is it more like Bosnia and Albania? That says all!!!!
Delete^^ Great logic. Serbia is poor so instead of trying to rise out of poverty lets all sit idle.
DeleteIf you wait around hoping that wealth and development will suddenly appear, you will be quite disappointed.
Despite being small and not powerful, Serbia has an extraordinary opportunity to enter the longhaul transatlantic market. If this opportunity is ignored, it will certainly leave and may never return.
The countries that border Serbia will certainly not hesitate if they are given this opportunity.
+1 Aleksandar! Some people just don't want Air Serbia to grow.
DeleteThough I agree with you that something has to be done regarding the situation in the country I still think that these transatlantic flights are premature. The Balkan and Middle Eastern network is still weak and it will make connections much more difficult. Like I wrote yesterday, increasing their Euro-Mediterranean network should have been their top priority. You don't start US flights while you fly 6/week to FRA or 4/week to CPH. Before they even think of US flights destinations such as SKG, ATH, TIA, IST, BEY, TLV, SOF, OTP... need to be served between 10 and 14 times per week.
DeleteAlso, it would be a shame to have these North American flights without first securing the slots at TLV. Something they couldn't do for obvious reasons. I mean, imagine you are offering one or two weekly connections between TLV/BEY to JFK and your neighbor in IST has three daily to JFK and between 5 and 8 daily flights to BEY and TLV. How do you compete with that? Not to mention that JU's marketing budget is much more modest than that of TK.
Nemjee I totally agree that adding more feed is absolutely necessary. Expanding the ATR fleet to around 10 operational planes and adding a 70-100 seat regional jet should be done rapidly. Along with this, greatly expanding the airport and finding a solution for the next decade is also important.
DeleteThe airport is tricky because we are not going to see any major investment any time soon; they have to find a quick solution that will make BEG more competitive when it comes to passenger experience. I mean God forbid your plane is parked at A6-A10 and your flight takes off before sunrise. That area is just creepy.
DeleteAn expanded luggage sorting facility is needed, three to five additional bus gates and a few more coffee shops and restaurants are needed.
@5:59
DeleteWhy not Google SIA, and take note how wealthy (or not) the small city-state of Singapore was back when the airline was starting up, and what made them so successful. And how much money they could afford to lose at their beginnings. I think you'll be surprised.
Love new Adria Airways and (as far as I can see) Air Serbia websites! It's a shame that Croatia Airlines has one of the worst websites I have seen, they haven't changed it for ages!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are surprised? They did not change routes and frequencies for years, so web page is not the biggest problem of Croatia Airlines!
DeleteAgree, Purger! So do you know what's gonna happen with privatisation of OU, are we waiting for the old/new government, is anyone interested at all?
DeleteI think that OU has a bit problematic situation. The consession over ZAG got french so I belive that they will inforce AFR and KLM to get as much as they can. Skyteam will going to be privleged ther. That is why Fraport decided to buy LJU. In this package is also Adria witch serves cca 70% of LJU. What I want to say is that Adria has a chance to surrvive but Croatia has a biggggh problem.at its domeatic hub.
DeleteInteresting... many of the features in the new Adria and Air Serbia websites have been standard on Croatia Airlines website for well over 5 and maybe even closer to 10 years.
DeleteIn saying that, it does look as that Croatia Airlines has in recent years given up on being the first airline in the Ex Yu region to introduce intuitive and new aviation based products. Bit of a shame really!!
Will have to wait and see if restructuring was the reason and if we will see something new from OU soon.
Used the service today. Quite good, everything was working fine. Played a few games :D Pity about them not having wifi though.
ReplyDelete+1000
DeleteTo attract bussines revenue as well younger travellers WiFi is the future. I do not see point of instoling such a service.
ReplyDeleteI think that ZAG will slowly become a Skyteam hub in the reagion as LJU will be *A airport there. Thertore Adria will go through but I do not belive that Croatia will survive unless it will change the aliance groupe.
