Adria's passenger numbers improve

Adria Airways records strong passenger growth in 2015

Adria Airways carried 1.045.442 passengers on scheduled flights in 2015, representing an increase of 14% compared to the year before, the company said in a statement. It operated a total of 17.931 flights, up 8.3% year-on-year. However, the average cabin load factor declined from 70.5% in 2014 to 68% last year. The carrier says it used larger aircraft in a bid to cut costs, which resulted in the two point decline in occupancy. Adria hasn't published its financial results, although it is believed to have recorded a net loss of five million euros. Due to the ongoing economic slump in Russia, the airline saw revenue drop by 75% on its Moscow service over the past two years. Adria also experienced problems with its Zurich flights after Swiss International Air Lines launched services to the Slovenian capital. However, Swiss suspended its Ljubljana flights this January, with the Slovenian carrier retaining a monopoly on the route.

Adria Airways plans to handle 1.128.000 passengers this year on 18.000 flights. While the airline suspended services from Ljubljana to Istanbul last month, it will launch flights from the Slovenian capital to Cologne, from Pristina to London Luton, from Tirana to Munich and from Olsztyn in Poland to the Bavarian capital this summer. In addition to charters from Ljubljana to Greece, Turkey and Egypt, the Slovenian carrier will also launch leisure flights from Klagenfurt and Graz in Austria to Kefalonia and Kavala in Greece, between June and September. A total of 209 scheduled flights per week are planned to operate this summer season, of which 161 will originate from Ljubljana.

The Slovenian carrier is awaiting the completion of its privatisation process. The German turnaround fund, 4K Invest, which is expected to become Adria's majority shareholder by the end of April, plans to optimise the carrier and reduce the airline's costs per passenger, while maintaining the airline's hybrid business model, Star Alliance membership and its focus on the Slovenian, Albanian and Kosovo markets. 4K Invest signed a contract for the purchase of a 91.58% stake in Adria at a price of 100.000 euros. The new shares will be distributed by April 20, after which the German fund is to complete the acquisition pending regulatory approval and the implementation of a series of suspensory conditions. In addition, the fund will provide a one million euro cash injection.

I guess they don't include numbers from Estonia in their statistics.

Will Adria lease some jets this summer? I know they got the CEJ700 recently but they were discussing some A319s too?

AAV will stay in the fleet, but they tran CityJet pilots with this a/c. They flying 4 times per day from Ljubljana to Dresden and back. From where is that info. with Nordic Aviation? CityJet will receive whole SAS fleet of CRJ900 but without crew and beacuse of that Adria was choosen to train Cityjet pilots.

    4. Anonymous14:29

Why is then AAV without livery? Is there any problem if CityJet pilots train with a/c which have Adria livery on it ?

For what's it worth - i speak from an employee's point of view - since Etihad came into JU, salaries have never ever been late. Always paid on time and in full. That has at least been 1 positive outcome of Etihad's involvement.

Maybe for you guys in the HQ but in ASGS they tend to be late by 3 to 5 days. At first they were regular but that changed a few months ago.

Stop making things up just because you are a bot. If you go speak to pretty much anyone in ASGS they will tell you the same thing.

Is there any indication QR will start LJU or SJJ? I am still surprised that QR has not come to SJJ since I heard that Air Arabia is doing great in terms of bookings for the summer season. When there were rumours that QR might start SJJ I initially thought that it will mean it will be at first connected with BEG at least 3 to 4 times per week.

    Two interesting points

    1) People here often say when two Star Alliance partners are competing it's not actual competition (I remember reading this when it was announced LOT would start flying to LJU). Well that's obviously not true if Adria's Zurich flights suffered.
    2) Why did Swiss suspend flights? They obviously weren't doing that badly.

It looks like LH has upgraded one of two BEG-MUC flights to a A319 from a Embraer 195 from mid June. Approximate seat increase is around 20. I think its because LH transferred a number of E195 to Austrian.
Another thing is that Austrian will operate to BEG a wide range of aircraft including A320,319, E195, F100,and Dash.

It's temporary. LH has generally decreased capacity from/to BEG. They used to fly A319 all year round and double daily to FRA,even in February. They just don't want to compete seriously with the rest.

Don't forget that Lufthansa also has Austrian Airlines and Swiss in Belgrade. They compete from a few different markets.
