The number of seats available for sale in the former Yugoslavia rose in 2016 when compared to the year before with low cost carriers fuelling growth across the continent. Based on data from the OAG Schedules Analyser, reported by Pasazer, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Macedonia saw available capacity rise between 10.1% - 15% last year. Of those, Macedonia was the top performer with 14.8% growth. The number of tickets available for sale in Serbia and Montenegro was up between 5.1% - 10%, while Slovenia saw the slowest growth in the former Yugoslavia, recording an increase of between 0.1% - 5%. Kosovo was not included in the data. Iceland registered the biggest growth in capacity (35.5%) in Europe due to the fast growing low cost carrier WOW Air, while growth in Bulgaria and Romania exceeded 20% as the tussle between Ryanair and Wizz Air continues. The only European countries to record a decline in available capacity compared to the year before were Latvia (-0.2), Norway (-0.4%, introduction of aviation tax on departing passengers) and Russia (-1.6).
Note that the data is percentage based, meaning some markets could have added more capacity yet recorded lower percentage growth compared to others who saw greater percentage growth but added fewer seats.
