Two low cost carriers plan to commence services to Ljubljana this year, as budget airlines continue to expand their presence in the Slovenian capital. The head of Ljubljana Airport, Zmago Skobir, said last week to the "Uporabna stran" portal that one of the carriers in question is headquartered in northern Germany. The airline is tipped to be Eurowings which is based in Dusseldorf and has expanded significantly across the former Yugoslavia this year. Previous media reports have suggested that the airport is also in talks with Ryanair, Iberia Express and Vueling. Ljubljana Airport noted, "We have introduced an updated and flexible tariff system which has improved competitiveness, as well as incentives available for attracting new airlines. The system will contribute to the introduction and expansion of new and existing flights, as well as to the engagement of new carriers". Details of the new flights are expected soon, as services are tipped to commence this year.
The Slovenian Ministry for Infrastructure noted last week that it is concentrating its efforts on boosting the country's air connectivity and linking Ljubljana Airport with new destinations. "In our opinion, it is important for Slovenia to be connected with the rest of the world, no matter which airline provides the service. As long as they are safe and offer affordable fares to the public". In a recent report, Ljubljana Airport noted, "By working on marketing, we aim to encourage airlines to launch new routes and increase passenger numbers at the airport, particularly from neighbouring countries and thus reduce the outflow of local passengers to neighbouring airports". It added, "We will focus our marketing activities on raising our profile and strengthening the airport’s competitive position in the region".
Low cost airlines have recently increased their operations to the Slovenian capital. Late last year, easyJet launched flights from London Gatwick, while the Dutch-based Transavia commenced services from Amsterdam earlier this month. Furthermore, Wizz Air recently outlined plans to boost capacity on its London Luton - Ljubljana service by upgrading its equipment on the route from the 180-seat Airbus A320 to the 230-seat A321 aircraft this September. Mr Skobir has said that the airport is doing its best to attract new carriers but warned that fuel prices, state taxes and other charges, which it has no control over, continue to act as a deterrent for airlines.
It's going to be Dusseldorf - Ljubljana and/or Munich - Ljubljana. Or even both by Eurowings.

DeleteWell I think the majority of that passenger flow is constrained between Frankfurt and Munich. Adria cancelled Berlin because of poor loads and discontinued sales for Cologne before it was even launched.

DeleteI doubt it, Norwegian is set to create base in Zagreb, they're in advance stage of setting things up. They'll announce their plans by year's end. They;ll serve at least 3 destinations next year out of Zagreb with two more in 2019 for total of 6. If all goes well they might 2 more in 2020 for total of 7.
DeleteVueling is also looking at setting up a base in Zagreb, and Eurowings/Germanwings will do so this year, they're looking at basing at least one A319 in Zagreb. Bon/Koln, Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf will be served out of Zagreb from next year year round on a daily basis. Flights to Hanover, Leipzig and Nuremberg are also on the cards by 2020.
I think Norwegian could easily start a weekly flight to Scandinavia from LJU. And the plans for the Zagreb base seem very optimistic. It seems nice, but too optimistic in my opinion.

Negotiations are still in progress, but Norwegian is very much interested in flying from ZAG, not sure about ZAG becoming their base.

Attracting LCCs alone doesn`t help, if markets like Berlin with 4 million inhabitants or Bercelona do not work (Easyjet flew, Adria flew and Vueling flew). Lets first wait how long the Transavia flights will last. Its nice thes started, but they have to stay! If Adria cannot fly to FRA 4 times a dy with 319 it shows a lot.

- Out of those 8 new flights are with long-haul planes

So it is not about DUS-ZAG route at all, which increase is insignificant compare to what is happening in ZAG this year.

DeleteYou have Trieste for Bari, Sicily and Rome and for everything else you have their high speed train network. The proximity of Italy means that it's easier to get to with other ways of travel too, which is often cheaper than a flight ticket. FlixBus has really good fares from LJ to Rome and I doubt it that anyone else than ryanair could compete it and they already operate Rome flights from Trieste which is 1h drive away from LJ.

DeleteDon't forget that the vast majority of trade happens between Northern Italy and the western half of Slovenia, much of which is almost equidistant between Venice and Ljubljana, with the closest airport being in Trieste.
DeleteI think between the three Italian airports and the public transport options - bus/train to Venice and then high-speed Freccia trains to Milan, Rome, etc. there isn't much leftover demand for flighs to Italy.

Уједно, вреди напоменути да летови као што су Загреб-Хелсинки/Букурешт/Осло су сезонски и питање је да ли ће се поново успоставити. Сви знамо како је ОУ прошла када се осмелила да обави неколико чартера из Осијека за Даблин.
Činjenica će Beograd i sa novim linijama Wizza i drugih imati negativan broj, tj. manje tjednih letova nego prošle godine. No, kao što sam u tekstu i napisao, LCC će ovaj gap nadoknaditi. To smanjenje Air Serbije još nije nastupilo i vidjet će se tek u top sezoni kada su ta rezanja i aktualna.
DeleteNa zagrebački broj putnika neće toliko utjecati tih 4 sezonske linije, iako naravno da će i one doprijnjeti. Daleko više će doprinjeti povećanja Lufthanse, Qatara, ČSA, LOT-a, Iberie, Air Transata i Norwegina koji otvara cjelogodišnju liniju. No, daleko najviše će pridonjeti svakodnevni letovi Emiratesa sa 777-300. Govorimo o 260.000 ponuđenih sjedala godišnje. Naravno neće se sva popuniti, Emirates ima prosječan LF oko 80%, no na novoj liniji malo je vjerojatno da će imati toliku popunjenost, ali mi ipak govorimo o debeloj šesteroznamenkastoj brojci novih putnika koje će akumulirati samo Emirates.
Какве везе има то што Ер Србија нуди мање летова када бележе раст путника? Узмимо фебруар као пример, ту је ред летења био десеткован али су ипак имали 7% више путника.

Дакле ја не бринем за наш аеродром, он ће наставити да расте и да консолидује своје позицију као број један у регији бивше Југославије. Свима је јасно да му нико не може ни примирисати.
На крају крајева, сваки аеродром више брине да има путнике него број авио-операција. Шта ће вредети Загребу то што ће добити Емирате ако они не буду у могућности да напуне сва та седишта? Тачно је да им је просечна попуњеност 80% али то је зато што на неким линијама имају 95% док је на неким то свега 50%. Треба видети на ком делу спектрума ће се наћи Загреб. Што се Емирата тиче, ја само кажем да се не залећемо већ да видимо како ће пословати, посебно током зимских месеци када загребачки аеродром нема ни 200.000 путника.
Сва та увећања страних авио-компанија је одлична ствар за све који лете из/за Загреб. Исто тако, претпостављам да схваташ да је то симптоматично за све аеродроме где је локални превозник релативно слаб. Да је Кроацијан јака и солидна фирма, странцима би било знатно теже да се изборе за део колача.
Но добро, живи били па видели.
U veljači red letenja nije bio ništa više desetkovan nego u istom periodu godinu prije.
DeleteNaravno da manji broj letova ima utjecaja na broj putnika. Manja konektiranost, manji broj opcija, konačno i ukinute 4 linije. Ako vi stvarno mislite da će 11,6% letova menje rezultirati povečanjem LF za tolko da se isto kompenzira onda ste nepopravljiv optimista.
Da, smanjenja je bilo kod Air Serbije i prije. I ona veća smanjenja prije dvije zime su rezultirale smanjenjem broja putnika 8 mjeseci i gubitak preko 100.000 putnika u tom periodu. No, ekspanzija tog ljeta je isto kompenzirala. Ali, morate shvatiti da se sada rada radi o neusporedivo većem smanjenju, te o ljetnoj sezoni.
Nove LCC linije će isto naknaditi, to nije sporno, ali da će ova reduciranja Air Serbije imati utjecaja na konačan rezultat, naravno da hoće.
O Emiratesu sam napisao posebnu analizu, pa ne bih banalizirao sa raspravama i sveo ih na dvije-tri izdvojene teze. Ako želite znati moj stav pročitajte analizu:

I bilo bi dobro da malo poradite na računici. Ako je prosječna popunjenost 80%, a neke linije imaju 95%, onda adekvatan broj linija u drugom spektru treba imati 65%, a ne 50. No i sa bilo kakvim postotkom većim od 50% Zagreb će imati više od 130.000 novih putnika zahvaljujući Emiratesu + dodani konektirani putnici na ove linije iz SPU, DBV, SJJ, ZAD, PUY, OSI...
Što se tiće zime Emirates je poznat po tome da ne reže kapacitete nego putnike privlači niskim cijenama. Dao sam primjer cijene u prosincu na karti AMS-ZAG-AMS od samo 92 EUR. U tom kontekstu za očekivati je relativno dobro popunjen avion i zimi. Konačno govorimo o 15.000-tak tisuća putnika u zimskim mjesecima. To je još uvijek tek 8% broja zagrebačkih putnika u to vrijeme. Nije da se očekuje da će Emirates akumulirati 70% zimskih putnika, zer ne? Ali da će pridonjeti povećanju, naravno da hoće. I te kako hoće.
Simptomatično ili ne, velik broj novih prijevoznika jest bolja konkurencija, jest niže karte, jest više putnika. Indikativno je da su svi dosadašnji novi prijevoznici prosječnu cijenu karte u Zagrebu sa 350 EUR skinuli na ispod 200. I da ja već tri godine nisam putovao iz drugog grada nego iz Zagreba, dok mi je prije bilo pravilo da od 10 letova 8 obavim iz drugih aerodroma. Malo tko ovdje suze roni za Croatiom. Vremena nacionalnih gluparenja su odavno prošlost u Hrvatskoj. Lufthansa, Air France, LOT, ČSA, Iberia, Brussels, Austrian, Swiss... svi su oni domaće firme u Hrvatskoj kao članici EU. I vjerujte mi 90% putnika samo interesira kako će bolje proć (ne uvijek jeftinije). I zato radije sam za to da se motivira dolazak što više kompanija, nego da se utuku pusti milijuni u hranjenje lešine na samrti.
Kako god 40-tak tjednih letova više i 9 novih linija među kojima i Emirates svakako su dobra osnova za uspješno zagrbačko ljeto.

Just a small correction.
EK have for the past couple of years dropped frequency and/or capacity temporarily on some of its destinations during slower periods. Currently, 5 US destinations will be reduced (BOS, LAX, FLL, ORL and SEA), LAD again is seeing reduction, while last winter there was reductions to CGK, LED etc.
EK lately have cut fares and frequencies. The fleet doesnt seem to be working for them.

Што се Емирата тиче, као што сам рекао, ја само позивам на опрез и да се не залећемо. Емирати су већ неколико пута увели линије, смањили их па их на крају укинули. Ако се добро сећам Баку је једно од тих одредишта. Прочитао сам тај чланак и није ми се свидео, ваљда је то онај где си написао да је долазак Емирата у Загреб већи успех од спашавања Јата.
Морам да се сложим са Анон 0847, у последње време као да си мало почео да вртиш исту плочу.

As a cheap person, who saves every cent on as much things as possible, I'd really like a connecting flight to USA with Norwegian. A return ticket for 400€ from my doorstep is perfect for me since I'd not be buying lunch, checked baggage or even seat reservation.

The plane will be out of service for two weeks, JU cancelled all flights to JFK JU500/1 from Sep,30th till Oct,13th. Altogether eight flights to JFK are cancelled. JU promised that in crisis situation EY would have stepped in with another 332, didn't they ?

Deleteits not a crisis, its scheduled maintenance for which they have 6 months in advance stopped selling tickets for the duration of the maintenance.
Problem would be if the plane went AOG during a scheduled rotation, in which case a back up is available.
