Air Serbia, Croatia Airlines and Adria among Europe’s best

Air Serbia, Croatia Airlines and Adria Airways have been named among Eastern Europe's best carriers at the annual World Airline Awards, hosted by Skytrax, during the Paris Air Show yesterday. For the fourth time, three of the largest carriers from the former Yugoslavia have been featured among the best in the category, while Air Serbia was named among the world's top regional airlines. The Serbian carrier was voted Eastern Europe’s fourth best, Croatia Airlines came eighth, while Adria Airways positioned itself as the ninth best. As a result, Air Serbia and Adria retained their positions from last year, while Croatia Airlines fell back two spots. The trio managed to outperform the likes of Wizz Air, Czech Airlines and Rossiya Airlines. Aeroflot was awarded the title of Eastern Europe’s best carrier for a fifth year running, followed by LOT Polish Airlines and S7 Airlines.

Air Serbia was also named among the top twenty best regional airlines in the world, placing eighteenth. It made a comeback onto the list after missing out in 2018. Within Europe, the Serbian carrier placed fifth and improved its ranking by two positions, while Adria returned to the list after a one-year hiatus, positioning itself as Europe's tenth best regional carrier. According to Skytrax, the category is the most important global quality distinction for airlines. For these World Airline Awards, regional airlines were defined as full service / hybrid carriers that primarily operate domestic or international flights up to approximately six hours. Whilst some regional airlines may operate a small number of longer flights, the core market for this airline classification are short / medium haul routes where customer product and service expectations are different to long haul routes.

None of the carriers from the former Yugoslavia were ranked among the world’s top 100 airlines. Montenegro Airlines is the only carrier from the former Yugoslavia not to have been featured in any of the several dozen categories.

The World Airline Awards, described as "the Oscars of the aviation industry", are the most coveted quality accolades for the world airline industry and a global benchmark of airline excellence handed out based on passenger experience. The survey operated online between September 2018 and May 2019, with 21.65 million eligible customer surveys completed, across a range of topics, resulting in the awards for airline of the year, together with regional and best airline awards. All entries are screened to identify each IP / user information, with duplicate or ineligible entries deleted. The awards are said to be 100% independent with no payment by any airline or other outside organisation for any aspect of the customer survey or awards presentation event. Over 100 different nationalities participated in the customer satisfaction survey, which covered 335 airlines, from largest international airlines to smaller domestic carriers. The surveys measure standards across 49 key performance indicators of airline front-line product and service. The survey customer voting processes and Airline Awards results analysis were independently assessed in detail by the UK Advertising Standards Authority.

Overall, Lufthansa was named as Europe’s best carrier. Star Alliance, of which both Croatia Airlines and Adria Airways are members of, was awarded for the best alliance in the aviation industry for a third year running. Qatar Airways was named the world’s best airline, taking the title over from last year’s victor Singapore Airlines. Philippine Airlines was the industry's most improved, while Air Asia was awarded the world's best low cost airline. This year marked the eighth time airlines from the EX-YU region made it into the awards list and the third time a carrier from the region was featured in three categories. Earlier this year, Skytrax named the world’s best airports, with Belgrade and Zagreb ranking fifth and ninth in Eastern Europe respectively.

Congrats, Aegean! Ninth year in a row, that's something.

The moment they claimed Adria is in the top 10, they lost all credibility.

actually Adria is a solid airline when they dont cancel/merge flights

Air Serbia remained in #4 spot in EE but Croatia fell down two spots to #8.

Air Serbia being #18 in the world as a regional airline is impressive. It validates efforts to add service options and personalize travel experience. Congrats!

Yes Air Serbia and Wizz are about the same level :) Both are outstanding as proven by Skytrax :)

Skytrax didn't rank Adria as first and LOT as last in the EE, or LH as number 1 and QR as number 10 in the world. That would be very wrong. Skytrax may be imperfect, but relative rankings are fairly indicative.

In terms of relative ranking compared to 2018, Air Serbia retained that number 4 spot while Croatia lost two spots, from 6 to 8. With 21 new routes and dozens of new service options like paid premium meals it can't be argued that Air Serbia makes an effort to improve, which can't be seriously argued for some other airlines. Growth of gap in rankings between those two airlines would have to appear in any other sensible market rankings, Skytrax or not.

I'm sorry but what is Wizzair doing on this list, the worst airline in Europe! Bad cabin codition, miserable cabin crew + service, the worst website and checkin procedure!

I also found their planes quite dirty. They clean them in the morning once and that's that for the day. No vacuuming, no wiping... nothing. The crew just collects whatever trash there is and voila.

Skytrax is the most relevant airline rating. There are no perfect rankings, but my personal experience almost always corresponds to their rankings. I also rely to their reviews when choosing carriers and I wasn't dissapointed so far.

Lufthansa and Qatar are really the best airlines in Europe and in the World, respectively.

The only dark period of Skytrax was when they were blackmailed by Etihad to give them 5 stars, which was ridiculous.

Really? Wow... I never thought JU was that expedient. Good for them I guess.

Air Malta better than Air Serbia?
    Austrian better than KLM?
    I don't get these two.

Comment is valid enough.Skytrax is in my humble opinion, utterly nonsense. Unfortunately I am traveling with AS way to much while also spending a lot of time with other companies and my experience of AS is more than disappointing. It shares the very bottom with the worst one... All good arguments but no time nor place to state it all.
