NEWS FLASH
SAS Scandinavian Airlines will introduce seasonal summer flights from Copenhagen to both Tivat and Zadar in 2020.
Services to Zadar will be inaugurated on June 30 and run twice per week, each Tuesday and Saturday, until August 8 with the Bombardier CRJ900 jet. Similarly, flights to the Montenegrin coast will commence on July 1 and operate twice per week, each Wednesday and Saturday, until August 8, with the Airbus A321 aircraft.

Would love to see them in some other airports like ZAG, LJU and why not even in BEG?

DeleteZAD will cannibalise most of the potential growth at SPU. They're growing really fast.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is that SAS flies up to 20 times a day to SPU. You cannot get any slots in the high season at SPU.
DeleteTrue, lack of parking space for the planes is a big issue for Split"s even bigger results.
DeleteI see the trend in disliking SPU at this portal, with main discourse being how ZAD (usually, but OMO can also help, when necessary) will curb SPU growth :)
DeleteThis is funny especially since these anons don't usually do their homework before posting:
for example, as a comment to this piece of news, we see that ZAD will cannibalize SPU - with its total of 12 flights (!) with CRJ900, even though SPU has more than 20 SAS flights in a single day (Saturday) during the busy season of July and August.
Soon enough you will see good part of those flights trickling down to ZAD. SPU is poorly managed airport in fact and they're lacking the basic infrastructure. All this will help ZAD in its growth.
DeleteI don't have anything against SPU, except that I don't like the poor quality of service provided. That airport has simply outgrown itself and now it needs to shrink a bit to focus on improving things.
As I said, homework should be done before posting :)
DeleteThen you'd know that largest share of SPU passengers are hotel guests from Split area, central Dalmatian islands and Makarska rivijera - and you'd also know that they're not willing to add 3+ hours each way to reach their destination.
Just out of curiosity, which poor service are we talking about, that will make pax opt for ZAD instead of SPU?

ReplyDeleteFor TIV, SAS is quite certainly also counting on VFR/diaspora traffic, in addition to tourists. That's why the A321 I guess.

ReplyDeleteZadar is looking next year. Transavia is adding a weekly frequency too from RTM. This SAS flight is just for school holidays and wont take anything away from SPU, but it is a good start.
