Korean Air confirms Zagreb winter suspension

Korean Air has confirmed reports it will discontinue flights between Seoul and Zagreb over the 2019/2020 winter season and will resume operations on the route next summer. In a statement to EX-YU Aviation News, the airline’s spokesperson said, “The flight between Incheon and Zagreb will be suspended from December 2, 2019 to March 27, 2020. We have made the decision considering the trend of travel demand, which increased in the summer season and decreased in the winter. We have not yet decided whether suspending the flights during the winter season would be continued in the future. We will resume the route in summer 2020”. The airline plans to maintain the service three times per week during next summer season.

    They are so affordable right now, obviously they have some promo rate now when they are cancelling winter, u can't even book flights on some dates because they are obviously full! But I do not understand, why they just didn't leave those rates for winter? They would have also good load factor. Last winter I flew with them via ZRH to ICN and back direct to ZAG, I paid 1100 euros for return ticket and my company paid for a ticket so I actually didn't care. But as individual, I would go to Seoul with Qatar, Turkish or Emirates, price would be half of KE's! From ZAG to ICN via ZRH there was 50 pax on Dreamliner, horrible, and back to ZAG flight was fully booked, with more passengers to ZAG. I can't believe that they are not using this market on proper way, so many wasted opportunities!

      The problem is that ZAG does not provide any Cargo to KE. So they need to fill the plane with expensive tickets to make it profitable. If not profitable enough, they prefer using the plane on route where they make more money. Simple.

      AF ZAG flights don't even connect to their ICN ones. How about you do some research before posting such comments.

      How about you do some research before post something like this and telling me that I am wrong? AF flight from ZAG have connection on KE flight from CDG.

    The last two respondents are both wrong and right at the same time. The daily morning Croatian Airlines flight is marketed an Air France codeshare and connects with a 2 hour window onto a genuine AF flight codeshared with KE, or an 8 hour connection window onto a 3x weekly AF flight. There is also a 7 hour self-connection to the Asiana flight at 19:00. The evening AF flight allows only 1 hour to connect with the evening KE codeshare flight.
    That's just outbound: I haven't looked at coming in the other direction yet.
    Interesting to see that some respondents are happy to do the triangular itinerary.
    This market is an interesting one: as I understand it, it was primarily the result of the filming of a Korean TV series which somehow ended up set in Croatia. This stimulated a startling amount of tourist interest. That this has been turned into a commercially viable summer service is testament to the efforts of the country, the airline and the airport. Making it work through winter would be probematic but I am interested to hear you believe there is a viable business market and winter market too. What were load factors like over winter 18/19? Something worth pursuing?
