LOT Polish Airlines has postponed the introduction of its daily service between Budapest and Belgrade from March 30 until May 27 due to a fleet shortage. Other routes scheduled to be launched by the airline from the Hungarian capital during this period have also either been delayed or their frequencies slashed. The carrier notes that uncertainty over the reintroduction of its grounded Boeing 737 MAX aircraft has resulted in a lack of capacity. LOT will operate its new Belgrade service from late May under the same schedule as initially planned. Further flight details can be found here.

Wasn't flight time table some around 5 am from BEG to BUD. I think this is better option and also more convenient for O&D market.
ReplyDeleteThat came from the site of BEG airport before the official announcement in August. When it was official, the flight was scheduled in the middle of the day.

DeleteSo as did Air France, Lufthansa and British Airways at their time. That or the Siberian overflight fees that Aeroflot can pocket. That being one example among thousands, let's not even talk about QR/TK. Aviation industry is heavily subsidized, period. Even then, some might make it and some don't (OU?). The only ones you don't mind getting subsidies are Wizz Air/Ryanair (which also get them for operating out of INI just as Air Serbia, let alone SKP) and they're at the same time the most hypocrite advertising free market. Flights from KVO were presented to all interested parties. I guess Air Serbia's development simply irks you.
DeleteI wish Air Serbia all the best and would love to use one of the subsidised flight, if only occasion arises:) Not to be overly optimistic, whether we may say about development or not, can be possible to judge in two years time. Opening new routes is nice, but at the end of the day, they either make or don't make money. I don't think that the Serbian tax payer will be willing to increase these subsidies forever to keep the impression of a progress being made. Cheap tickets make full loads, increase pax numbers, but don't create a permanent progress.

In order to open flights to VIE which is level 3 slot controlled airport, you would need to request a slot in VIE for KVO-VIE route months before this tender was announced. So only somebody that was planning to open this particular route for months before announcement of this tender and at that time secured an appropriate slot at VIE could apply in this tender. So saying that the flights were presented to all interested parties is just laughable.

Obviously Anon above doesn't realise subsidies for JU are going down so the airline seems to know what it's doing. They are making the most of the subsidies they are getting. No one seemed to mind the bogus tender in Budapest which was fixed for W6. What benefit did the Hungarian taxpayers have back then?
DeleteNo need for conspiracy theories. I don't work in the aviation industry and have no proposals for Air Serbia. And most of all I don't think they could ever take anything that is written in internet seriously and would be surpised if they did care enough to even enter this site. I would be really astonished if they did. They are aviation professionals after all.

Yeah, only flying to Budapest with Atr isn't meant flying with leased B777L to Ougadougu. Budapest is one of the main regional cities and one of a low-risk destinations for Air Serbia to attempt (again). It is the only regional capital where Air Serbia doesn't fly and it could provide feed for the rest of the network. If you ain't seeing that you must definitely be tired or somehow else biased. ReplyDeleteImportant to look at the bigger picture; the subsidies main beneficiary is the airport/town/region where these flights will land (INI/KVO) and will have a significant positive secondary impact not reflected on the balance sheet of AS, but of these beneficiaries. That is in the national interest of the donor government, as it creates employment/income for residents of these areas (airport, taxi, hotel, Airbnb, restaurants etc...)
ReplyDeleteRemember, Serbia is still rebuilding the damaged/destroyed infrastructure from sanctions/bombing and the subsidies given are part of an overall plan of restoring/rebuilding lost markets, tourism etc... It will take a few years of regular flights to these airports in order to make a profit (or break even) which is why the subsidies are spread-out over several years.
As for Budapest, I'm looking forward to taking that 200km/hr train ride from BG.
