Slovenia extends flight ban

NEWS FLASH

Slovenia has extended a ban on commercial flights from the European Union until April 13 in an effort to stem the spread of the coronavirus Covid-19. The country initially suspended all commercial air services from the EU until March 30. Under EU regulation, such decisions must be reviewed every two weeks. Commercial flights from outside the block are banned until further notice. The ban does not apply to aircraft transporting cargo or mail, those conducting special transport without passengers, ferry flights, or foreign aircraft or helicopters on humanitarian or health missions. The operator of Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, Fraport Slovenija, said it was impossible to assess the damage the widespread airport closures and flight bans would have on the industry but noted it would be “enormous”. "It is unclear how fast and to what extent air traffic will recover”, Fraport Slovenija said.

  1. Some Brits on Sky News live this morning, saying their rescue flight out of LJU is cancelled, and Embassy being closed. The anchor (or pundit) seemingly surprised by full closure of the consular services, suggesting they reach out to their MP back in their constituency, as they might be able to fast-track things.
Otherwise he told them to try to reach Austria, Germany or France by train, and pick up a flight from there.. again not sure whether the borders to Austria are completely sealed off or not.
