NEWS FLASH
The Croatian government plans to assist its national carrier in overcoming the financial fallout of the ongoing coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic. The Croatian Minster for Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, said, “Prior to the coronacirisis we started searching for a strategic partner for Croatia Airlines. This process had to be halted. Croatia Airlines shares the fate of other carriers in the aviation industry. Therefore, we will help it weather this crisis. After that, we will resume the process of seeking out a strategic partner”.
They were bailed out not so long ago, now they will probably get millions to last them for several more years beyond the Corona crisis, since it's not like they will magically start earning money after all of this is over - and the EU will have nothing to say, as it will be @bailout money for the Corona crisis, and every country is doing that@.
ReplyDeleteThis "oportunity" should be used to compensate state aid given couple months ago in such a way for OU that it doesnt have obligtion to return it back to government, at least not in full amount of 250 milion HRK
DeleteMinister Oleg. So not make us foulish!! And you will help Croatian railways also?? Fortunately, you are not Donald Trump, and we need money to save more important things then looser CTN!!
DeleteHow much money will government give to OU to weather the crisis?
ReplyDeleteThis could be an opportunity to regain lost ground on the coast. I'm not sure management will think like this though.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know the situation with Air Serbia and state help? I don't recall reading anything in the news. Most of the companies are suffering from grounding their fleet, but looks like ASL is doing ok, or not?
ReplyDeleteWhy not just search the news here?

That was a swift reply, thanks man.
DeleteInvest in something vital
ReplyDeleteIt seems that OU is becoming more of a LH of the region mentality. If HR can afford it, then why not? EU funds will continue arriving anyway and the country has already benefitted a lot of this membership. The Croatian Riviera needs to be backed somehow.
ReplyDeleteWell done Croatia and OU!
Well done taxpayers! Instead of supporting priorities and those in desperate need in this crisis money will go to the endless hole of an airline that wasn't able to be sustainable before the crisis. Government didn't specify exact amount of money they will give because people would be outraged. This is how much money could be wasted and still not make it a sustainable airline:

Lol! You are overreacting, dear. The video is funny I admit. I just want to remind you that OU still remains one of the very few legacy carriers around. Its existence is also prestigious and is vital for the economy of the country and sake of the Coast.
Delete120.000 people lost their job in Croatia due to Corona and they are throwing money at this corpse.
DeleteYou need to see bigger picture here. Althought the airline is loss making, it has a positive overall impact on tourism and economy. It is Croatian third larges exporter and it ensures year round air connectivity with Europe and thus the world. It generates over 1500 jobs in aviation (as some companies are highly dependant on OU as well as all costal airports outside of summer season) Also each sold ticket generates additional money in tourism services. In other words, much more damage would be made if OU was not going to be saved.
DeleteVery well said, you have a way with words. Your explanation is inspiring me to do the same. I will quote your comment when rationale to save some other ExYu airlines is being questioned. Thank you!
DeleteMinister Oleg. Do not make us foulish!! And you will help Croatian railways also?? And Croatian hotel too?! Fortunately, you are not Donald Trump, neither King of Saudi Arabia. We need money to save more important things then looser CTN!! You sold out profitable airport Zagreb and hold Croatia Airlines?? CTN had such financial dubiose since 1999, when Arthur Andersen hide 90 millions USD lost due to Currency Exchange lost!! Not shown in Annual Financial Reports!
