The construction of Ljubljana Airport’s new passenger terminal is nearing completion with work on the interior currently taking place. The baggage handling system, scanners and escalators are being put in place in order for Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) exercises to begin at the end of March 2021. Training for the new facility will begin as early as next month. The new terminal, which stretches over 10.000 square metres and features a new departures hall with 22 check-in counters, five security lanes and three baggage carousels, is expected to open in July of next year.
Just in time before all these new airlines arrive.

ReplyDeleteI don’t understand this sarcasm and negative comments. Would it be better to wait until the end of the pandemic and maintain (and pay for) the construction site in between? When will the old terminal be crowded again, start working again and wait for it to be completed? I'm pleased with all the positive news in the aviation sector. Great job! The terminal looks better than I expected. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteIt would help if Fraport admit that they need Air Slovenia. Then we will say that they did everything they could to improve connectivity of Slovenia. Until then only more sarcasm posts can be expected...

DeleteWhen airports are built/expanded/renovated, they are done so for the next 30 years, not for how many passengers are flying in the next day or month. How do you know that there won't be a new airline starting a hub in LJU in 5 or 10 years? I am annoyed by how short sighted and negative Slovenians are. If a private company (Fraport) wants to build a bigger building (Ljubljana Airport), why do you complain about it?

DeleteNegative comments becouse nobody here likes the management. Their comments on how we dont need national airline, how every year we will get more and more flights but nothing at the end. We have been hearing that for the last 10 years.

DeleteAirBaltic, Luxair. Also there are countries that are WAY bigger than Slovenia but have almost bankrupt airlines. Just becouse China is the biggest that doesnt mean their national airline is the most profitable in the world. India, second biggest and Air India is almost bankrupt. South Afria is also way bigger and look at SAA

DeleteYou can't really compare Luxembourg to Slovenia, might as well compare it to UAE or Qatar then. AirBaltic did make a small a mount of profit between 2013 and 2018, but the loss before that was astronomical, and they made loss even in 2019 (pre-Covid).
DeleteA large proportion of the world's airlines where state has more than 50% share are loss-making, because of the very nature of the way they operate - everyone knows the government will cover the losses, so there is very little incentive to run it as a business, and a lot of incentive to run it as what's best for your and your friends' pockets.

DeleteIt's not even a question if it makes loss or not, we saw what influence weak connectivity has on national economy. Now if we achieve good connectivity with foreign carriers which will place few aircrafts in LJU (which will not happen in 100 years) or to establish our own carrier. I am more for first option but like I said, to pay someone to have 5 aircrafts here it would cost much more than 5 mio € (which was yearly loss of JP with more than 10 aircrafts!).

DeleteInteresting how big the difference is between today’s headline comments and the comments below the news above. I like that when it comes to Serbian aviation, there is additional discussion in the comments, with questions, answers, additional information, etc. In the news from Slovenia, however, we find - it seems that mostly in the comments from Slovenia - a bunch of negativism. A very interesting comparison of attitudes. I also like LJU new terminal. I hope I will be able to use already in July.
ReplyDeleteI am Slovenian and for two years now we were going through agony first with JP and then with covid which destroyed almost everything. There is not much to be positive about.
DeleteOne should admit that it is one of the most clumsy/amateur moves in aviation history, not to cancel the capacity expansion although it was sooooo obvious and clear that it would take 5-10 years for LJU to recover to 2019 levels.

DeleteYou have to understand that people here are frustrated because government let JP go bankrupt or not to get prepared to establish new carrier at the same time. After that when we noticed that no foreign carriers can offer at lease 30% what we had before, we are reading statements from Fraport's management how Slovenia does not need national carrier and that JP will get replaced soon. So it's really difficult to find any positive word regarding Slovenia aviation. I wish all the best to Fraport but good times for them can only come with national carrier, sooner they realize that better will be for them...
I think the biggest winner from JP going bankrupt is JU. LJU went to 17 weekly and they are booming in TIA.
DeleteTIA itself is booming. Demand is growing in the country. One needs to be blind to see what the capital has become today as well as its coast. Albania is becoming an undiscovered jewel.
DeleteYeah but not all airlines are doing that we'll there. Lufthansa cut Munich, reduced Frankfurt from 7 to 6 while OS downgraded it from Airbus/€95 to Q400.
