NEWS FLASH
Wizz Air has terminated plans to restore flights between Salzburg and Skopje. The route was launched over the summer but only a single return service was operated due to a temporary flight ban imposed by Austria, which has since been lifted. The two weekly flights were initially scheduled to resume in March, however, the airline has now removed them from sale. Wizz Air still plans to restore services from Salzburg to Belgrade and Tuzla.
Real market conditions.
ReplyDeleteWizz quietly removed 49 routes from its schedule for 2021. Varadi, the spin doctor remains quiet as usual.
ReplyDeleteBusiness as usual for Wizz. They just want to burn as little cash as possible. Lot more cancellations to come.
DeleteI think MXP and SZG are the most affected cities. A couple of routes were cut from OTP and BUD and ATH.
DeleteThey didn't yet cut planned BEG expansion? Calling their bluff.

DeleteYes, how dare they try to optimise their finances instead of just flying empty planes and burning through cash reserves like there's no tomorrow.
When every other airline was grounding planes back in March and April, Wizz was adding flights and burning through cash reserves like there's no tomorrow.
DeleteGreat news for JU and INI I guess.
ReplyDeletelol
DeleteINI tried to compete with SKP in most of its destinations but now both airports seem to have temporarily shelved future regional expansions. It seems that SKP is sadly no longer a W6 priority. Less A321s and perhaps more Swedish or German secondary airports expansion. We will see.
DeleteWe will have to see what happens to the market after covid, so far Wizz Air has burned a lot of its cash reserves on silly expansions left and right and most of them proved to be failures. Unless North Macedonia doesn't give them a new round of subsidies then I think SKP-SZG won't be the only one they cut, remember some destinations like BCN or Vaxjo were already suspended once before.
