Work at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport continues to advance with the greatest progress being made on the newly expanded part of the C concourse. Exterior panels continue to be installed, while the structure has reached the existing C concourse gates. Work on the expansion and adaptation of the A concourse is in full swing, with a number of gates now closed off to the public. Construction of the new control tower is also advancing, with the structure now surpassing the height of the existing control tower.
A new landside waste facility is currently under construction and will be completed in the first half of the year. The airside waste facility is planned to be operational in 2022. The airport is also looking to reduce water consumption. The first step is to understand the airport’s consumption behaviour. As a result, in January 2021, the maintenance team installed seven new water meters in strategic points around the airport. The consumption data is collected daily, and a Water Consumption Committee is being developed to analyse the data, identify problems and their root cause and then act. In the short term, this avoids water waste and unnecessary consumption, while in the long term, the data will be analysed to define new projects and to make strategic decisions. Belgrade Airport is building a new WWTP (Waste Water Treatment Plant) with high treatment efficiency, The treated water will be transformed into reuse water, which will be able to supply toilet flushes, cooling towers, the new heating plant and others. It is important to note that the reuse water produced by the WWTP will not be utilised for potable uses, such as cooking, washing hands or drinking water. Belgrade Airport is also installing aerating nozzles in the washbasin taps, which will result in a water consumption reduction of at least 70%, with no impact in user perception or hand sanitisation. In addition, timed flushes at the urinals and toilets are being installed, and waterless urinals will be installed in the extended and renovated areas of the passenger terminal building.

DeleteBecause then the whole C section would be finished and could be fully used when A area goes into reconstruction. Like this they will have the new section and A1-4 but C1-6 will be old between the two.
DeleteThey are doing it the way they are doing it because of the annex building that has to be built, and complete reorganisation of check in area. There is a reason they are doing it this way. They didn't just randomly decide it.

DeleteIt's pretty poor form on their part. The lounge has actually been swallowed up by the new duty free. They are using the Covid situation as an excuse for not having a lounge at the moment. My assumption is the new lounge is located in the extended part of the building so we won't see it before September. The least they could have done is made a deal with Air Serbia so other passengers can use their lounge.

Duty free didn’t “swallow” the lounge, it was expanded towards the old restaurant. They just simply closed it, and you can’t see anything, the area still exists. The hallway which led to the lounge now is turned into STAFF only passage, they might decided to renovate it, but I can’t confirm that, to me it looks more like they found the other purpose for that space, while the new lounge will be open in the C concourse extension (my opinion).

DeleteThe actual extension is bigger than almost any ex-yu airport. The current building being built is phase 1 and the extension of that - phase 2 starts in September. Why would an airport need to be separated into different terminals if there is a physical ability to have it under one roof?
DeleteIt makes sense to extend the terminal because there were already stands in front, all that is missing is the building. That was fixed now.
DeleteBEG already had a good and convenient layout, the Г shape means that there is less congestion on the taxiways.
Looking forward to the resumption of flights to Israel. First flight arrives tomorrow, Israir lands at 17.10.

Phase 2 of C concourse extension starts in September. With current expansion C concourse will have only 13 jet bridges but with another expansion Phase 2 could add 4-5 jet bridges. That's supposed to start in Sep.

The first phase will see the addition of eight gates equipped with airbridges, as well as four bus gates for outbound passengers flying out from remote aircraft stands. The expanded Pier C complex is not completely aligned with the existing C gates, and while it will be unnoticeable to passengers walking the airport’s corridors, the positioning of the new building allows for greater apron space, and in turn, will enable the new gates to handle wide-body aircraft, which is in line with VINCI’s hub strategy for Belgrade. The facility will have an open space configuration for gate areas and circulation areas for departing passengers.
The second phase of the expansion of Pier C will begin immediately upon the completion of the first phase next year and will feature an additional four airbridge gates. The exterior of the building will be mostly made up of glass to allow for more natural sunlight.
The only real difference between 19:17 and 19:29 comment is whether C14 will be in Phase 1 or Phase 2. Not a major issue.
DeleteI am OK with the whole plan, I just hope exterior design is the same all over and there are no mix/match parts from the outside. I assume there will be a new main area where people enter. All else seems logical, layout etc. About the only good thing about Covid is that construction can speed up to some degree as traffic is light and they can move faster, maybe even save some money too, maybe.

The building will feature a gallery on top floor - a wide corridor which will also be built on the existing terminal buildings in order to segregate arriving and departing passengers. It will be used by arriving travellers. Belgrade Airport’s Chief Technical Officer, Nicolas Brousse, explained to EX-YU Aviation News, “It’s a five-metre wide corridor which will be positioned on top of Pier A, existing Pier C and the new building. This means that upon landing at the airport, you will enter the bridge and go up to this arrival gallery. You will then reach a central transfer zone which is a chimney-like structure with escalators going down to the first level, which will be for transfer passengers (corresponding to departure level), and then you can go down again to the baggage reclaim area and arrival hall”. The segregation of arriving and departing passengers during the first phase of the project will enable Belgrade Airport to centralise its passenger and luggage security. “The actual plan for September next year would be to use centralised security with Pier C only and Pier A some six months afterwards, i.e. end of March 2022”, Mr Brousse noted. The second option would be to open the first phase of the terminal extension (Pier C and Pier A) at once at the end of March 2022 depending on phasing to accommodate airport operations in the coming months.

Additional structure between A3 and A4 containing stairs to allow passengers to get from the air bridge to the top floor started construction sometime around October 2020 and just recently reached top height above current roof level, and that's just the rough part of the construction. A lot of additional work is needed. What is done can be considered as part of the work needed for the additional floor you described but keep in mind it took about 5 months and that's just rough work that covers space between A3 and A4. At that pace completing all existing A and C gate pairs plus completing top floor corridor plus that central transfer zone might take a while. Hope it all gets done in the next 12 months.
DeleteI still think Vinci could have done a better job with this terminal. Did you see how the new LJU one looks like at the moment? It has a much more modern feel. This one seems to be a lacking external design with 10 years.

There is no such thing as an "inserted extension" or "inserted terminal". You writing that nonsense over and over does not make it exist.

DeleteZAG is the definition of not being functional. Ask any pilot and the mess they made with the actual apron and problems it causes with pushback. Ask also any person working at the control tower and the issue they have at not being able to see a single plane and having to rely on cameras instead

DeleteEven though it's been said, I want to point out the lie propagated by anons here. There is no "inserted" terminal, it's BS masked to sound smart and techy. The terminal is being expanded/extended in modular approach, so it will all be a single unified unit once complete. Vinci ultimate goal is probably to connect T1 and T2 in a way that you can't tell a difference.

DeleteBEG never needed a new terminal, it just needed an upgrade of existing facilities which were ok. That is why this extension makes sense. It was only in 2019, so before covid, that BEG started experiencing restrictions. Remember how Wizz Air had to move some departures to 07.00 because there was no gate space?
ReplyDeleteOnce existing capacity is full they can start thinking of a new terminal. Comparing old ZAG airport with BEG is silly. ZAG was a shack and a disaster which was like flying out of a warehouse. BEG on the other hand was reconstructed and modernized several times, first time in 1981.
Seems like SU is doing really well in BEG. On Saturday they sent A332 and right now they are sending the A333. Will look glorious with the new terminal in the background.
