Air Serbia will become the first European carrier to begin trialling the IATA Travel Pass in cooperation with the International Air Transport Association and the Torlak Institute for Virology, Vaccines and Serums next week. Passengers flying between Belgrade and Zurich starting April 28 have been asked to participate in the trial on a voluntary basis to test the application. The innovative mobile app helps passengers to easily and safely organise travel in accordance with country requirements regarding Covid-19 testing or vaccinations. The trial will run for four weeks.
Passengers on the Belgrade - Zurich service have been invited to download the IATA Travel Pass app, create an account with a profile photo and passport information, as well as to input data about their flight, after which they will receive information on the test required to enter Switzerland. They will then be able to schedule a date to get tested at the Torlak Institute in Belgrade. After the test results arrive, they become visible in the IATA Travel Pass application, which compares the necessary requirements for travel with the passenger data, including the test results. Everyone who meets the requirements to travel to their desired destination gets a green light for travelling. The IATA Travel Pass app is completely free of charge for passengers and will be available only for iOS devices in the first stage of the trial. It will be made available to Android users later on.
Commenting on the development, Air Serbia’s Head of PSS and Distribution, Zoran Radosavljević, said, “We are glad to have started the application trial process, and we hope for good results, so that we can expand the implementation of the project to other destinations. IATA Travel Pass represents an important initiative for the re-opening of borders without quarantine, and an important step towards a speedy recovery of the aviation industry, which is why we are among the first in this part of the world to get involved in this pilot project”.
The IATA Travel Pass is based on “'Self-sovereign identity”, which allows the passenger to have full control over their personal data. Users can store their entire travel documentation in a digital wallet and choose whom they want to share the data with. In addition, the application allows passengers to find accurate and up-to-date information on the testing requirements necessary for their trip. Several airlines have so far started trialling the IATA Travel Pass. They include Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Singapore Airlines and Saudi Arabian Airlines.
