Low cost carrier Transavia plans to add its second destination from Ljubljana with the airline to introduce services from Paris Orly Airport to the Slovenian capital. Based on a draft schedule, operations are expected to commence on October 24, but tickets are yet to be put on sale. The airline has published return fares from the French capital to Ljubljana starting from 49 euros. Transavia already maintains services from Amsterdam to the Slovenian capital, which are currently run three times per week. The budget airline’s parent company, Air France, maintains daily flights from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Ljubljana through its Hop subsidiary.
Last year, Air France handled 26.261 passengers between Paris and Ljubljana. During the pre-pandemic 2019, when flights were also maintained by Adria Airways prior to its collapse in September that year, the route saw 101.635 travellers. In addition, in 2019 there were a further 4.685 passengers flying indirectly between the two cities on a single itinerary. The French flag carrier planned to operate double daily flights to the Slovenian capital in the summer of 2020, but these did not materialise due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company previously noted, "The Air France - KLM Group strongly believes in the potential of ex-Yugoslav countries. We have a real desire to serve the region to our best. Transavia maintains sustained growth and is developing its network from all its bases in France and the Netherlands to the former Yugoslavia”. Previously, low cost carrier easyJet maintained operations between Charles de Gaulle and Ljubljana as well, from December 2010 until March 2012.
Ljubljana Airport is seeing signs of recovery, handling 27.953 passengers in June. The figure represents a decrease of 85.2% on the same month in 2019. Aircraft movements stood at 1.650. During the first half of the year, Ljubljana airport welcomed 70.011 travellers through its doors, down 91.1% on the same period in 2019. “If there are no additional restrictions as a result of the pandemic, we expect to offer seventeen scheduled destinations by the end of October. It is very encouraging that the number of flights on existing routes are constantly growing and the outlook for the winter season is already promising”, the Head of Airline Management at operator Fraport Slovenija, Janez Krašnja, said.

ReplyDeleteSeriously, has no one wonder why Transavia announced flights from Paris, while there's daily Air France service? Do you really believe that the demand is so strong (remind you that H1 result is 91% down compared to 2019, worst in Europe)? Get real people.
A 2-3 weekly service to ORY will replace a daily (it was double daily when there was no corona) service to CDG, one of the biggest hubs in the world? If demand would not be so strong AF would be flying like 2 or 3 times a week with E170, and not daily with E190 on it most of the time. If there is anyone who should get real, it is you.

DeleteFormally, and even more price-wise, Transavia is definitely LCC, but it offers connections to AFKL network, it allows passengers normal size 10 kg cabin baggage free of charge, it has experienced and one of the most profesional and friendliest cabin crew, better than many legacies, it offers excellent buy on board offer, it treats employees with dignity and respect, and in my opinion has more characteristics of hybrid, even legacy, than only LCC

DeleteIt's not hybrid. The point is: Transavia is a pure LCC. Airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air are ULCC. That's why Transavia gives a better experience. But Transavia is also a network carrier, as it simply serves the networks of KLM and Air France as well. KLM and Air France also use Transavia to gain and maintain domestic market share at regional airports that are not profitable to serve with the main airline. So it is an LCC, but you should never see it separate from KLM and Air France. Transavia is their strategic asset.
