Red Wings Airlines has applied and received permits from the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency Rosaviatsia to launch two weekly flights each from Kazan and Yekaterinburg to Belgrade. If the Russian airline decides to exercise these rights, it will have to receive approval from the Serbian Civil Aviation Directorate prior to launching operations. The Serbian regulator has refused to issue permits to two Russian carriers this summer - S7 Airlines and Ural Airlines - in line with the stringent bilateral air service agreement between the two countries. Red Wings maintained flights between Moscow and Belgrade prior to the pandemic, but has suspended all international flights since, with exception to Yerevan in Armenia.
Serbia has emerged as one of the most popular markets for Russian tourists this year. During the first six months of 2021, Serbia was the fourth most popular non-CIS international market for Russian travellers according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia. It was behind only Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Cyprus, but ahead of Greece, Tunisia, Croatia and Mexico. Currently, three airlines maintain operations between the two countries including Air Serbia, Aeroflot, and Nordwind Airlines. The Serbian carrier maintains services to Moscow, St Petersburg, Krasnodar, and Rostov-on-Don, while Aeroflot runs flights from Moscow and St Petersburg. Nordwind operates flights from Russia’s two largest cities as well and has scheduled the launch of its new service from Rostov starting September 16.
There have never been nonstop flights from Kazan and Yekaterinburg to Belgrade. Based on OAG data, Kazan is currently the busiest unserved route between Serbia and Russia with some 2.951 indirect passengers, while there were a further 1.816 travellers flying between Kazan and Belgrade on a single itinerary. The two cities are currently covered by a codeshare agreement between Air Serbia and Aeroflot. Red Wings Airlines boasts a fleet of just over twenty aircraft including Airbus A320s and A321s, Boeing 777s and Sukhoi Superjets.
Doubt CAD will allow it.
ReplyDeleteI think they might because these don't affect JU.
DeleteWill they also resume Moscow flights?
ReplyDeleteHad the Serbian directorate allowed all flights to Russia so far, we would have had a very developed network between the two countries.
ReplyDeleteNice
ReplyDeleteHope these launch
ReplyDeleteBasically all of the main points in Russia will be covered from BEG.
ReplyDeleteChances of these flights launching are slim.
DeleteGood ties should be utilized as much as possible
ReplyDeleteThat is one random fleet.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised how modern their fleet is.
DeleteI like their new livery :)
DeleteRostov by N4 is still on sale so hopefully these flights happen.
ReplyDeleteYes, interestingly Air Serbia's flights to Rostov are still not on sale for this winter.
DeleteRostov is probably performing well for them because of increased tourist demand. However JU is very expensive, I think over €300.
DeleteProbably it is cheaper for transfer passengers which make up the majority on this route.
DeleteLocals make up around 35% of the passengers from Rostov.
DeleteThose will probably be taken over by Nordwind.
DeleteI fear so too since JU doesn't have a good sales department.Though their Sunday flight at 20.30 out of BEG should be popular with locals. However they have to lower their prices.
DeleteWhat is also interesting is that SU will operate widebodies to BEG until the end of October.
ReplyDeleteProbably past October too as it doesn't look other countries will reopen for Russians any time soon.
DeleteShame Russians are not allowing more flights to Moscow. There seems to be enough demand.
DeleteI wouldn't mind SU's current timetable post October. Three daily to BEG <3
DeleteOf course this will change ... unfortunately.
Other parts of Russia definitely show potential for BEG flights. Interconnection and transfer to BEG as final destination make sense, especially if some of those carriers have strong regional presence in other corners of Russia. Russian presence is significant and tourism will/should be on the rise. Djafte-Kurafte article from few weeks ago had similar view. Hope it lasts for RUS-SRB interconnection.
ReplyDeleteDjafte-Kurafte?
DeleteHow many flights did Redwings have between Moscow and Belgrade?
ReplyDeleteI think they started with two but before covid those increased to 4. Since they started flying Russian arrivals to Serbia started to boom. Same with N4.
DeleteOnly goes to show JU-SU duopoly is hurting the economy.
They operated 4 weekly and scheduled daily flights from summer 2020 but it never happened because of Covid.
DeleteThanks. Which airport did they fly from Moscow?
DeleteDomodedovo.
DeleteI was hoping all these new routes from Russia would decrease prices between Russia and Serbia but it is not the case.
ReplyDeleteBecause demand exploded and capacity is being limited. If they allowed all those players to enter then prices would go down as well.
DeleteNothing will come out of this because the bilateral is effectively restricting flying between those two countries as much as possible .
ReplyDeleteNordwind managed somehow so we should pray WZ succeeds as well.
DeleteSome of these routes I'm not sure will work. Based on the data in the article they don't have that many point to point passengers.
ReplyDeleteData is for before Covid when Russians had many other opportunities to travel.
DeleteGood luck!
ReplyDeleteGreat news for Belgrade
ReplyDeleteAnd still nothing on INI-Russia market
ReplyDeleteRed Wings used to operate some Nis charters in 2017.
DeleteJU should perhaps make LED year round.
ReplyDeleteLED probably will go year round once Covid passes.
DeleteThen it will take a while.
DeleteRussia still didn't release frequencies for winter so we don't know what the schedule will look like and what restrictions will be put in place.
DeleteGood. The more foreign visitors the better.
ReplyDeleteFlights to Russia have great potential
ReplyDeleteLet's just hope they launch
ReplyDeleteNice development. Hope these routes start and can be sustained.
ReplyDeleteWith these new routes BEG will have very good coverage in Russia.
ReplyDeleteMissing some far east routes in Russia :D
DeleteVladivostok
DeleteNovosibirsk, that's a big S7 base :D
DeleteFrom all the new routes, exotic charters from India, various announcements ...
ReplyDeleteFor me the biggest surprise is still Luxair.
And the route seems to be performing well since they upgraded it to year round and already scheduled an additional weekly flight for next summer.
DeleteWhat other routes could work between Belgrade and Russia?
ReplyDeleteMislim da uz adekvatan code share aranzman JU moze da profitira od ovakvih ruta, a da ne rizikuje da ulazi u rizične rute i zauzima avion sa dužim rotacijama, pogotovo van sezone. Al pitanje dal ce strateski planeri to videti
ReplyDeleteSamo da ne rizikuje da ulazi u rizične rute.
DeleteYekaterinburg is a dump, Kazan is nice though
ReplyDeleteHave you been there?
DeleteStop talking stupidity.
