Flydubai touches down in Ljubljana, restores Zagreb

Flydubai has today launched operations from its hub to Ljubljana, connecting the two cities with a scheduled operations for the first time. There were some eighty passengers on board the inaugural Ljubljana service. Flights will run three times per week with the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Ljubljana Airport’s outgoing long-time General Manager, Zmago Skobir, said, “Our negotiations for the introduction of this service date back to 2012, with the aim of establishing flights as soon as possible. Important steps were taken in 2016, 2017 and 2018 as the government drafted a number of agreements that enabled this service today. The arrival of Flydubai at our airport is an important milestone for Slovenia’s connectivity. Passengers are now able to travel nonstop to Dubai, and transfer onto partner airline Emirates to many other interesting destinations”. He added, “The arrival of Flydubai means Slovenians who are presently using other nearby airports to travel, no longer have to do so. I believe these flights will also benefit residents from other surrounding countries. I am confident this service will live up to all of our expectations and predictions and will not only last for the duration of the Expo 2020 Dubai, but also beyond”.

Flydubai’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said, “We see Ljubljana as a great opportunity. Now is the right time for our arrival as we emerge from the pandemic and the number of passengers continues to grow. We are also looking forward to the excellent cooperation with the Slovenian government, which has done a lot to enable us to come to Slovenia. We will continue to work closely with the Slovenian Tourist Board and the government, as we believe that Slovenia is also a very interesting and attractive tourist destination for our residents”. 

The hybrid carrier also restored services between Dubai and Zagreb yesterday, linking to the two for the first time since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic last March. Flights were initially scheduled to run four times per week, but have been reduced to two weekly and will grow to four weekly rotations from December 20. Commenting on the resumption of flights to Zagreb, Hamad Obaidalla, Flydubai’s Chief Commercial Officer, said, “We are excited to resume operations to Croatia, a popular destination in the Flydubai network. We are confident that passengers will enjoy Flydubai’s convenient and reliable service and the comfortable cabin of our Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, which offers a flatbed in business class, and is scheduled to operate on this route”.

Both the flights to Ljubljana and Zagreb are codeshared by Emirates. Passengers booking Flydubai tickets to Dubai will enjoy a complimentary one-day pass to visit Expo 2020 Dubai, taking place from October 1 to March 31, 2022. The initiative is valid for all bookings made from September 01 for travel during the event dates.
