Lufthansa to double Sarajevo operations

NEWS FLASH

Lufthansa plans to introduce a second daily flight between Frankfurt and Sarajevo next summer season, complementing its daily service between the two cities launched in early May. The second daily flight, which will commence on March 27, 2022, will depart Frankfurt in the evenings, with its aircraft to spend the night in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital, prior to its return in the morning the following day. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Lufthansa served Sarajevo exclusively from Munich, however, these have since been terminated. Frankfurt was Sarajevo’s busiest unserved destination in Europe prior to Covid-19. Lufthansa carries a sizeable number of transfer passengers on its Sarajevo flights. In 2019, its main transfer passengers to and from Sarajevo via Munich were to/from London. It was followed by Frankfurt, Boston, Amsterdam, Madrid, Gothenburg, New York and Barcelona.

  1. Why doesn’t LH launch SKP flights already, I’m sure there will be a lot of transfers to US and Australia!?

Australia is still closed. This is also why QR pulled out of SKP. I don't think there is demand for LH. Don't forget that SKP has probably one of the largest connections to Germany, connecting many secondary and tertiary airports. Plus, SKP has OS already.

Lufthansa has plenty to do with passengers from Australia. Many fly via Singapore Airlines to Germany and connect onto Lufthansa flights to Sarajevo!

That was the case 10 years ago. It is the least used option now with Middle East airlines selling tickets at half price with better schedule and without backtracking.

    5. I get why QR and FZ pulled out, but I live in Australia and I keep noticing tickets going on sale (MEL-SIN-MUC-VIE-SKP) which is why I raised this point! Plus vaccination rates are improving by the day in Australia with the latest state to open fully by 10th of December this year... It wouldn’t be bad if they sent an e190 or a crj900 from either city twice a week like TIA.

    7. LH fly everywhere in the balkans, except SKP. I think that they can be as successful as OS.

No demand and no market. Wizzair already covers Germany and RNM is not touristy as Croatia or Slovenia and now BiH even.
      Ohrid is, but not enough.

I think both ZAG and SJJ will see serious numbers next year.

Croatia airlines is getting hammered from every side. Even LH stepped in to start to protect the market share.
