Low cost carrier easyJet will terminate four routes to Croatia and a planned new service to Ljubljana as the airline is due to announce a loss of over a billion dollars for the previous financial year at the end of the month. The budget carrier has now terminated its seasonal flights from London Luton, Milan Malpensa and Toulouse to Dubrovnik, while services from Belfast to Split have also been cut. This is on top of the routes that were discontinued earlier this year, which included services from Venice and London Stansted to both Dubrovnik and Split, as well as from Southend to Dubrovnik and Newcastle to Split.
In the pre-pandemic era, the budget airline was Croatia’s largest during the peak summer month of August, eclipsing Croatia Airlines. Overall, in 2019, it was the second largest airline in the country in terms of offered seat capacity, behind only the national carrier. However, this year it has fallen to third place, behind both Croatia Airlines and Ryanair, while in the peak month of August it was the second largest carrier in the country, behind the national airline. Despite the cancellations, easyJet will still boast a large network out of Croatia next summer, from Split, Dubrovnik, Pula and Zadar.
easyJet has also cancelled plans to introduce flights from London Luton to Ljubljana. Services were initially scheduled to commence last year but have been constantly delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, easyJet’s sole remaining service to Ljubljana will be from London Gatwick. This represents a significant retreat from the Slovenian market for the airline, which, prior to the pandemic and following the collapse of Adria Airways in September 2019, was Slovenia’s largest carrier. Last year, easyJet terminated its flights from both London Stansted and Berlin to Ljubljana.

ReplyDeletei know right. i kind of wanna see if it can get even worse and how. it's not about getting LJU back, because due to no transfer PAX, the pre adria numbers will never be reached again. it's logical since a single PAX won't be counted 2x. for me it's about seeing how much worse can it get because it's just spiraling out of control and i find this amusing now. it's like watching a bad tv show. you hate it but you can't stop watching it because you wanna see how much worse it can get

ReplyDeleteLJU does not need new routes. Passengers can fly via FRA. If they do not like this, they can drive to other airports in region.

Ofcourse it is the favor of FRA and LH. Just look at the most popular unserved routes from LJU. So much potencial yet there is nothing done to establish these routes. Only "talks". Because for some reason Fraport thinks its better to fly via FRA with LH.

Guys the situation is bad, look at EW after it was reported that they delayed Prague now they did the same for Dusseldorf. Just shows demand is still soft.
ReplyDeleteThey were stubborn and notorious. Wizzair offered to buy easyJet and they refused. Yes, they also cancelled various routes but are in a much better financial situation and belonging to a huge group. It was a mistake not to accept their proposal.

Easyjet is a far bigger airline than W6 and it has large bases in major airports in major western European markets. W6 does not.
DeletePrecisely. The primary airports have higher expenses. But Wizzair are also expanding outside of Europe and things will most likely change a lot with the arrival of the A321XLR in 2023. EasyJet should've accepted their offer instead of facing this cancellation agony.

DeleteWizz is bigger than Easyjet? They fly 70 aircraft of the 145 they have (not enough crew and demand), reported EUR 125 million loss and their share price dropped from 55 to 41 GBP since April. They are in a dire state, can be happy to survive covid.
