Air Serbia has announced the launch of three new routes from Belgrade, bringing the total number of new destinations from its hub this summer to nine. Starting June 1, the airline will commence flights to Amman in Jordan, followed by Sochi in Russia on June 2, as well as Lyon in France the following day. Services to Amman will be operated four times per week during the summer, decreasing to three weekly in the winter. The Amman flights were originally planned to commence in June 2020 but were postponed until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic. Until 2001, the route was served by Air Serbia's predecessor JAT Yugoslav Airlines.

Lyon will become Air Serbia's third destination in France following Paris and Nice and will be maintained twice per week. Lyon was previously operated by Wizz Air in 2019 but the route was suspended after several months. In addition, Sochi will become Air Serbia's fifth destination in Russia and will run twice per week. Tickets for flights to Amman and Lyon go on sale today, while sales for the Sochi route will commence once the airline is granted necessary permits by Russian authorities.
Commenting on the latest network additions, Air Serbia's Head of Sales, Boško Rupić, said, “The decision to introduce direct flights to Amman is a result of the strategic importance of renewing our presence in the Middle East region, while the planned commencement of the flights to Sochi is the result of the significance of the Russian market for Air Serbia and the fact that this tourist destination is underserved with direct international flights. Thanks to extremely successful routes to Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don, we have positioned ourselves as one of the airlines with the largest market share between Russia and the Balkans. We are also focused on strengthening our presence in France, which is why we are launching flights to Lyon, being one of the wealthiest regions in the country and market with great potential. We are happy to be adding these new destinations to our network and looking forward to further expansion in the upcoming period".
Very good, I am sure all of these routes will be a success especially now when they are adding destinations in the West. This is turning out to be a very good year for BEG.
ReplyDeleteThey delivered on what they promised last year, that they will expand hub and spoke model.
Deletewow four weekly to Amman! That was unexpected
ReplyDeleteI think they have to have 4 as a minimum because the flight is too long so it can't make it to BEG and back in time to catch connections on both ends.
DeleteIt's good to see that it is year round as well.
DeleteBEG-AMM 23.15-03.15
DeleteBEG-AMM 23.20-03.10
BEG-AMM 23.25-03.15
Every day we get 3 new routes. Great job JU!
ReplyDeleteI might go to Sochi on holliday. Rouble is weak and the prices are OK.
ReplyDeleteI hope u will have a great time
DeleteWonder if Lyon will work. It wasn't successful for Wizz.
ReplyDeleteWizz could not count on transfers in addition to diaspora and other P2P travellers.
DeleteReally impressive. Well done!
ReplyDeleteJU is really putting other Ex-Yu airlines to shame.
ReplyDeleteWith government aid everything is possible, darling.
DeletePity that OU doesn't receive any gov aid .... ahahahahah .... there would be no limit to what they could do.
DeleteOU is not the second most subsidised governmental airline in the Balkans after TK and JU. In EU such laws do not apply to stimulate competition. There is a difference.
DeleteI like these guys bragging around with EU, conveniently "forgetting" billions and billions pumped in, Alitalia, for example, and several others, OU included
DeletePozdrav, Croatia is actually part of EU and Serbia is not. EU usually does not favour government-backed airlines and you know it because I read your previous comments about Malév for instance. Just accept the facts, government aid helps airlines as it is the case with ASL.
DeleteNo one cares about your opinion about ASL aid and if ZAG and BEG had the same number of flights one day in the middle of the winter.
DeleteWow so 9 new routes from BEG plus the two from INI and KVO. So in total 11 new routes this summer.
ReplyDeletePlus the four routes they launched this winter. So 15 new routes in 2022 so far!
DeleteMore are on the way :)
DeleteHuge by any means, especially an airline of Air Serbia's size. Well done
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see Amman in the network. Will definitely use it!
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteThey will fly Sochi and Krasnodar? Aren't these two cities side by side???
ReplyDeleteTrue they are 170km from each other.
DeleteSo... what?
DeleteIt's just kind of close. I don't know if they really cater for such a different market.
DeleteSochi is a tourist resort, Krasnodar is the city almost the size of Belgrade. And it is not on the shore.
DeletePlease, refrain from schematic reasoning ("Why does Air Serbia fly to Dubrovnik/Rijeka, when it also flies to nearby Tivat/Pula"). That has nothing to do with doing business!
What does 'schematic reasoning' mean?
DeleteKrasnodar and Sochi may be 170 km apart by air, but the road distance is more than 300 km. Also the road is single-lane in both directions so it takes almost 6 hours to drive from one place to the other.
Delete@Anon 13:21
DeleteWhat does 'schematic reasoning' mean?
the process of reasoning by wich new information is interpreted according to the memory stucture, a shema, which contains a network of genetic script, metaphors, an simplified characterizations of observed objects and phenomena.
Wow, those are lots 10$ words. And why did you accused someone of this?
DeleteObviously, for applying simplified logic of 'two airports being too close to be connected to the same hub', that does not work with business logic used in aviation.
DeleteMy concern was to not to saturate the market.
DeleteDo anyone know distance between Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar? If you check time tables from Rostov, Krasnodar or Sochi you can find just few flights to W. Europe. This is a logical solution to AS.
DeleteIf someone is from Sochi and needs to go to Paris, he is not going to look at who is flying out of Krasnodar (a three hour drive anyway) but rather they will look at who is flying from their home airport. That is why it makes sense for airlines like Air Serbia to fly from airports that are not far from each other.
DeleteFinally back in the Middle East. Now we just wait Cairo and Tel Aviv to be restored.
ReplyDeleteAs in good old times...
DeleteDid JAT used to fly to Sochi?
ReplyDeleteNo, they only had charters for construction workers.
DeleteIf I remember correctly Gaspromavia used to fly to BEG from Sochi but I have no idea what these flights were. They were regular but I'm not sure if they were commercial flights.
DeleteMontavia used to fly construction workers there.
DeleteGazpromavia had flights on Saturdays with the Yak-42.
DeleteJAT, as it suits to an airline (according to many posters here) from "behind the iron curtain"(LOL) had flown on scheduled bases to Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Montreal, Toronto, Los Angeles, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham.... (New York, Chicago and London deliberately omitted despite served, some daily or double daily). On the other hand, JAT didn't even fly to Sofia, Bucharest, Budapest, Bratislava, Leipzig, Dresden, Krakow, Skt.Peterburg /Leningrad (1980-1990),let alone Sochi, Varna, Burgas, Constanta, and similar Eastern Block airlines destinations
DeleteHell, they did fly to Tirana, though;)
DeleteFor your information, Albania left "Eastern Block" as well some time after Yugoslavia had. In addition to that, Albania was completely isolated case, with hermetically closed borders and didn't have an airline at all, and had no connections with the outer World, and being one of only 3 airline companies allowed to land at Tirana, the other two being Malev and Interflug, just shows how powerful company JAT was, similar with its China operations in times China was completely closed, and only three airlines having access to China were JAT, Swissair and Air France
DeleteAre you sure JAT didn't fly to all those places? I remember coming across a 1988 summer timetable and there were listed places like Bucharest, Warsaw... and a few other eastern bloc places.
DeleteStarting mid 70s, TIA was server by CSA, LOT, Interflug, and Balkan. Possibly by Tarom and Malewv as well but not sure.
Delete@Nemjee
DeleteIf you read more carefuly, you would have noted I didn't mention WAW. Yes, in 1988 JAT flew to WAW, not much, two or three weekly, but it did. 1988, BUH, not operated by JAT. Air Algerie flew twice weekly to BEG and on to BUH. Maybe that"s the connection you saw, if they had traffic rights and/or codeshare. 1988, JAT flew to Kiev, Moscow, Prague, Warsaw, Berlin Schonefeld and Tirana. Not a single other destination in Eastern Europe, including all I listed before.
@Other Anonymous
JAT flew Belgrade to Tirana on DC-9, once weekly. Malev flew Budapest - Belgrade - Tirana once weekly on Tu-134, once weekly. Interflug flew Berlin - Tirana - Benghazi, on IL - 18, every fourteen days. Other companies you mention did not fly to Tirana
Are there going to be more new routes? :D
ReplyDelete"We are happy to be adding these new destinations to our network and looking forward to further expansion in the upcoming period" looks like yes :)
DeleteHe could be referring to resumption of some former routes. And I really hope they do.
Delete3 more to come :)
DeleteNew or former?
DeleteThey are unstoppable at the moment!
ReplyDeleteOk Airbus fleet MUST be expanded now
ReplyDeleteAir Serbia is getting more and more seasonal routes. So they will have to be smart about it. I assume there will be a couple of wet leases this summer. It's the only way the fleet can be sustainable during slow winter period.
DeleteJU does maintenance on the Airbus fleet over the winter months.
DeleteJU has also introduced new flights during the winter season. Recently it was INI&KVO-IST, INI-HHN, BEG, CGN, LJU. They also launched BEG-IST and BEG-ZAG to name more.
I don't think more wet leases will happen unless the demand increases dramatically more than they expect, as was the case last summer. Too many narrow bodies have left for them not to bring in more.
Lisbon please Air Serbia!
ReplyDeleteIt would be way better if TAP introduced LIS. They offer ridiculously cheap connections to South America and the US, so it would bring the much-needed additional competitiveness with the LH Group and AF/KL.
DeleteThey better announce a major aircraft order next.
ReplyDeleteThe first new ATR is already painted in the JU livery. Supposedly a total of 5 ATR's are joining. JU hasn't said anything about them just yet. It'll be the same for the Airbus ac. We will find out here first before JU says anything.
DeleteLet's see how many of these new routes are still on sale next year.
ReplyDeleteI'm really hoping they can be sustained.
DeleteYou mean next summer? Since most of these are seasonal summer routes.
DeleteAll the three are year round.
DeleteWill Sochi and Lyon be year round?
ReplyDeleteI think they will wait and see how they perform in summer.
Delete6 cities in Italy, 5 in Russia, 4 in Spain. Nice!
ReplyDeleteThey offer quite a few destinations in some countries. 5 in Croatia too.
DeleteBig vote of confidence in Amman with 4x per week in summer and 3 in winter during still present pandemic.
ReplyDeleteCould go to daily in summer 2023.
DeleteIt's going to be a busy summer.
ReplyDeleteAll these what JU is doing, OU should have done some 15 years ago, when old Jat Airways barely existed, Malev went bankrupt and Aegean was still relatively small. But they were too busy feeding LH, employing uhljebs and banning others from "their teritory". Now, with all "consultants" and their "competence", is too late, even if there was any will to change anything, and there is none. So, Bravo Hrvatska! Or, for real, Bravo Air Serbia and shame on you OU. Deeply!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately you speak the truth :( i think most opportunities have been lost now but still hoping for a miracle with OU.
DeleteWith 9 A319 and one A320? How? During summer season they send daily 8 A319 to Hurghada and abot 5 A319 to Antalya. There is no Greece, and another charters.... let we see how it will going...
ReplyDeleteThey are expending their fleet
DeleteWith ATR...
DeleteThey will expand their Airbus fleet too. They still haven't even officially announced the ATR expansion. Give it a few days
DeleteWith 2 more A319...please... last year they do wet l. with 737 and that is pointless, for some chartes they need plane bigger than 321. 8 planes with 144 seats daily for one destinastion seems like a very good option...
Delete@13,35
DeleteHave JU been banned from attaining additional aircraft? Or perhaps there is no aircraft left for them to lease?
I wonder if this was always planned to happen in conjunction with the opening of expanded T2 in Belgrade or it was just a coincidence?
ReplyDeleteExpansion of Terminal 2 with new processor building will not open this year, possibly not even next year. Foundations for that building are under construction at this point.
DeleteExtended C concourse with new C gates is expected to open this year.
Extended C concourse is ready and it will be opened in April. There is no point in opening it now when there is less traffic. Once they open it they can close the remaining C gates. I think C1 and C2 will be opened at about the same time.
DeleteLavov and Kišinjev čekaju...
ReplyDeleteDanas je na Instagram nalogu bilo pitanje korisnika za Lavov i eksplicitno su rekli da neće otvarati liniju za Lavov
DeleteI don't think LWO is going to be launched with the possibility of war to break out in Ukraine. Probably the same reason KBP isn't coming back as of yet.
DeleteOne way tickets for their Lyon flights start at 82 euros, Amman at 109
ReplyDeleteThat's not bad, too bad Jordan isn't that cheap. Was talking to the better half and she's seems to like the idea of Jordan for late summer so might give it a go.
DeleteFlight time to Jordan is close to three hours. Fares can't be that cheap especially with oil being more and more expensive. Lyon on the other hand should be around one hour and 45 minutes.
DeleteWow, 109, if true, it's too good to be true. Usually AMM on legacies from Europe is around 400 euros, with exception of Tarom and Aegean which are around 200/300, respectively
DeleteWell it is one way without luggage bot not bad
Delete*but
DeletePrices I wrote are also one way, travelled November 2021, so low season prices, and that's why this JU price is not good, but excellent, but is probably promotional only, or for very limited number of seats
DeleteI think their fare structure will be similar to LCA which is slightly shorter. In high season expect tickets to be no lower than €180 (going as high as €300) return while in low season you could come across €50 one-way fares. All without luggage.
DeleteStarts to look like someone took a page from Dane Kondic. Expand to many new places, see what doesn't work and then cancel those. Lyon won't work for example.
ReplyDeleteMarket conditions have significantly changed since that time. And why won't Lyon work?
DeleteI hope LYS will work out. It's France's third biggest city and I think the richest after Paris. Lots of companies are based there so they might experience very good yields. They might steal some passengers from easyJet though.
Delete@14,11
DeleteNo other airlines do this? Wizz didn't announce an additional aircraft and 10 routes out of BEG in 2020. I wonder how great that did. LIS? Announced, sold tickets, never launched. TKU? Announced, sold tickets, never launched. SZG? MXP? TRF? FR definitely has never done that...or have they? I wonder how long LH lasted on DUS-BEG? SK and BA also flew to BEG...
Once summer results are in, leadership will review results and cancel underperforming routes. New strategy will be unveiled for next year: more online sales, less transfers and more focus on direct passengers. After that season results will be analyzed and new strategy for next year will be announced: focus on post-covid customer demand, brand new markets, higher frequency and leased regional jets. Year after: less transfer, no more RJs, more charter flights, reduction of regional flights. Next year: rebuilding transfer destinations, less charters...
DeleteHahaha Anon 21.13 you made my day but unfortunately that seems to be the case with them.
DeleteIf I am not they are growing all the time. Nothing wrong in trying to balance P2P and transfer passengers,to adjust the network etc. Their strategy is to grow and they do so, like it or not!
DeleteTheir strategy is not to grow long haul, that's why they keep busy shuffling around short haul routes, to make it look like they have more important priorities.
DeleteHow are they going to finance all of this?
ReplyDeleteThey will have bigger cashflow and revenue.
DeleteThat will not be enough.
DeleteGovernment subsidies and their own income?
DeleteI don't even mind paying taxes for them. YU is at least actively trying to turn a profit.
Unlike some other government "pet projects" and bottomless money pits.
JU not YU.
DeleteAgree for JU, not YU. Sign under everything else (although not paying taxes in SRB)
DeleteI still kinda hope to see the long haul expansion
ReplyDeleteSorry but you'll have to wait a bit, JU is definitely chasing this summer after safe markets, tourist hotspots and of course charter destinations.
DeleteAlso they are about to introduce more regional routes with ATR, hopefully we get to see some new routes in the next days.
It is still early for lang haul, aviation industry hasn't recovered yet and I think Air Serbia has realised that introduction of new long haul flights at this moment won't be profitable.
It's not too early for long haul and not all of announced lines will be profitable either. Simply put Air Serbia is doing short haul expansion this year, not long haul.
DeleteBravo!!! Keep going!
ReplyDeleteWe still wait more of Italy.
Return with pre covid Florence or Pisa, at least summer season!
* want more
DeleteJoš da sačekamo sajam turizma u Februaru da objave PEK i YYD i leto može da počne.
ReplyDeleteJoš ORD i YYZ pa može i leto i zima!
DeleteNe bih se nadao tome.
DeleteThere is no Palma de Mallorca. It's called Palma (again) for a couple of years now.
ReplyDeleteActually most people call it Mallorca including Spaniards. Mallorca vs Menorca. If you ask me I adore Menorca 10000 times because of its beautiful and less crowded public. Google Formentera and you will see. Buuut, the prices in summer go crazy expensive. It is considered much more elite and prestige compared to Mallorca where all the average European and especially German go. Menorca is really really beautiful.
Delete^ Not to forget Ibiza ..!
DeleteFormentera? That's not Menorca but the 4th largest island of the Baleares, rather far from Menorca.
DeleteIts better to call it Palma de Mallorca so we all know what we talk about, because there is another Palma on Canarias.
DeleteThat's La Palma and it's and island, capital city is Santa Cruz ( also like several other cities, including one one on nearby Tenerife).
DeleteSvaki let, posebno novi let Er Srbije opravdava ulaganje od strane drzave. Prvenstveno u doba pandemije.
Our pleasure to return back of Air Srbija to come again to visit Jordan - Amman
ReplyDeleteBut its beautiful to have also Serbian Ambassy in Jordan to be more easier to visit Srbia Country or to visit Srbia without Visa.
