Croatia Airlines is in discussions with Boeing over the potential order of MAX family aircraft as part of its fleet renewal process. According to the “AvioRadar” portal, the two sides have been holding talks as the Croatian national carrier is due to select which aircraft type will form the core of its future fleet, following similar negotiations with Airbus and Embraer. “Boeing is currently in talks with Croatia Airlines concerning the renewal of its single-aisle fleet. We strong believe that the 737 MAX family is the perfect choice for Croatia Airlines’ short and medium haul network. The 737 MAX offers unmatched performance for smaller markets with the possibility of increasing aircraft capacity within the same family of aircraft in order to meet increased demand, which we expect to occur on the Croatian market in the coming years”, the US plane manufacturer said.
Croatia Airlines plans to renew its fleet as part of its post-Covid strategy which could include the replacement of both its Airbus and Dash 8 Q400 aircraft. Both Airbus, with its A220 jet, and Embraer, with its E2 family, have pitched their products to the Croatian carrier. The airline is now expected to make a final decision on the jet type before having its post-Covid strategy approved by its owner - the Croatian government. Croatia Airlines last operated Boeing aircraft in the late 1990s before making the switch to Airbus. The airline’s fleet once primarily consisted of Boeing 737-200s and ATR turboprops.
The Boeing 737 MAX is the fourth generation of the Boeing 737. The series is available in four variants, offering between 138 to 204 seats in typical two-class configuration. The 737 MAX 7, MAX 8 and MAX 9 are intended to replace the 737-700, -800, and -900 respectively, while a further-stretched 737 MAX 10 is also available on the market. If the Croatian carrier were to select MAX jets, it would likely opt for the MAX 7, which can seat between 153 and 172 passengers, depending on configuration. For its part, the national carrier said, “The post-Covid strategy confirms that Croatia Airlines is to increase the efficiency of its business operations and competitiveness, and that, in the coming period, the company is to manage key operational and structural challenges that include fleet renewal, and flight network optimisation throughout the year”.
Lol....just lol
ReplyDeleteWhy, oh why?
ReplyDeletebecause Boeing gives massive discounts on its MAX Programme.
DeleteThis makes no sense whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteThey are in talks with Boeing not just to get them come up with a financially FAVORABLE offer, but also to put pressure on Airbus and Embraer to do the same. It's called NEGOTIATIONS.
DeleteNot that it makes any difference, since OU can't afford any of the offers.
DeleteAirbus has a long waiting list, don't see why would they negotiate right now. What's the realistic delivery timeline, if OU chooses A220 or 737MAX? If delivery of A220 is gonna take 3+ years please go for something else. OU needs some plan for this and next year asap.
DeleteI just hope this doesn't end up like Adria's Sukhoi order.
ReplyDeleteOr like their plans to get 100 seater plane or open bases in ex-Yu cities.
DeleteNo matter how it ends, at least something is finally happening at OU.
DeleteActually nothing is happening in OU. Plenkovic is buying his armchair in Brussels with 220's, as he has already done with Rafals. We shall continue paying for the loss making model of feeding LH, and hundreds of uhljebs who don't care about it, just with the new planes, 220's, which is already decided, and all these around is just a show for the general public.
DeleteI'm not surprised, every manufacturer is fighting to get an order.
ReplyDeleteThese planes are too big for OU
ReplyDeleteIn terms of range, which markets would the MAX open for Croatia Airlines?
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter to them. The only thing important to OU at the moment is that it can reach Frankfurt.
Delete@9.05 it all depends on the series chosen.
DeleteIts just a sales pitch from Boeing, like from any other manufacturer... I (sincerely) doubt it is something OU os actually considering.
ReplyDeleteThey are doing that because they need to show 3 offers from different producers. That's the main rule for public procurement here in Croatia.
ReplyDeleteI believe OU will decide for A220 I think that's the best choice.
Best for OU would be A220 and A320NEOs
ReplyDeleteIn no way Boeing 737MAX.
+1
DeleteNo way MAX, I agree. They are too big for feeder plane and don't have range for any change in operations model. But disagree about 220/320neo. Much better choice is Embraer family, to cover for Dash and 319, and existing markets, and 321XLR to cover for new markets with high volumes of traffic, and change of existing feed only model
DeleteFor the public procurement part, I can only say LOL. Is double lease of Q400 by Misetic company also authorized by public procurement?
DeleteI don't see a reason for max. OU already has certificated pilits, tehnics, Fa... To operate on a320 so why would you make additional cost with new airplane...
DeleteThis process is dragging on too long. I don't see them getting new planes, whoever they choose until 2024.
ReplyDeleteIf they were to order let's say the 737 MAX as early as today, when is it realistic that the aircraft could be delivered?
DeleteWell that was unexpected!
ReplyDeleteAbsolute joke!
ReplyDeleteOU does not need 737 MAX as: 1. Does not have the market for Max; 2. Too expensive for OU; 3. These planes will never be filled more than 60% or max 70% of their capacity.
In my opinion the best option for OU would be Airbus220. It fits the company's size perfectly (and I think it's the perfect match for AirSerbia too).
I'm sure Boeing is willing to give a very good price.
DeleteThe flying coffin is being promoted again....
ReplyDeleteBoeing is being very aggressive with securing orders after they lost a few quite high profile orders from KLM and Qantas. So they are likely to offer big discounts and a very good deal.
ReplyDeleteThey only have Suhkoi left to talk to :D
ReplyDeleteCould they reach US east coast with MAX or not?
ReplyDeleteWith MAX 9 and MAX 10, yes they could.
DeleteMAX 7 has the largest range of the MAX family, due to the fact that all variants have the same fuel capacity, and the smaller the aircraft, the less fuel it will burn.
DeleteMax 8,9,and 10 have range between 6110 and 6570 km. Distance between ZAG and NYC, the shortest one, is 6900 km. So, only Max 7 with its range of 7130 km can make it, from technical and mechanical point of view. Commercially, Max 7 is not viable. A321XLR has range of 8700 km, which mean it can reach even "behind" NYC, Washington or Chicago, for example, plus its normal long haul capacity is about 170-180 passengers (maximum 240), while Max 7 normal long haul capacity is only 120-130 (maximum 170), with approximately the same operational costs. So much less passengers and much less money. Not to mention Max" image ".
DeleteThose range figures are without ACTs, which would be pretty much required for any long haul, and that's what A321XLR has as well. If you include ACTs, then the range is increased substantially.
DeleteTrue. But I believe OU is not considering MAX seriously, or A321XLR at all , with or without ACT 's. As one of previous posters explained : The only important thing for OU is it can reach Frankfurt
DeleteWho knows maybe they switch to Boeing. I mean the only reason they switched from Boeing to Airbus was because of political pressure from the government which was trying to secure EU candidacy. Who knows what the government is trying to do now. That's what happens when politics runs this airline.
ReplyDeleteTrue unfortunately.
DeleteWould look nice in Croatia Airlines colours
ReplyDeleteWould be nice if they considered a new livery after so many years.
DeleteThey just recently refreshed their livery.
Delete9:57, totally agree. The "refreshed" livery is boring.
DeleteStill don't get how they are going to finance this plane order.
ReplyDeleteGovernment.
DeleteAnd the EU will just approve state aid for the acquisition of aircraft?
DeleteEU already has many examples of incentives for private business for reducing carbon footprint, replacement of older tech with greener one etc.
DeleteI still don't see the EU allowing that.
DeleteThey will sell existing Airbuses, they have 8 million deposit from neos and the government will give state guarantees for the rest.
DeleteTrue. They have many assets to sell.
DeleteThis would really be something amazing.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they offer them a deal that is to good to refuse.
ReplyDelete* too
DeleteOU can't afford this kind of plane.
ReplyDeleteOrder will be financed by the state
DeleteI bet their larger competitor in ZAG will definitely not raise a complaint with the EU about it.
DeleteI personally enjoyed flying the 737 MAX but I don't think it makes sense for Croatia Airlines to order it.
ReplyDeletedoubt it will happen, but let's see.
ReplyDeleteThe A220 is the best jet replacement on the market for OU's A320s.
ReplyDeleteIf they are going to replace the entire fleet, including the Q400s then Embraer is the best choice in my opinion because they have smaller and larger variants of the E2 which would be perfect size for OU.
DeleteIt is good to see that OU will be aiming to create growth, whatever plane they choose.
ReplyDeleteAt least they a slowly waking up.
DeleteToo late
DeleteThey're probably talking to Boeing so that Airbus will give them a better deal.
ReplyDeleteIf this really goes through, I could see Croatia Airlines shifting more and more into becoming a transfer airline and looking for new markets outside of Europe. Something JU is doing currently.
ReplyDeleteSadly, but I don't see this happening.
ReplyDeleteIt is going to be A220 without doubt. This is just to show they are talking to others and potentially reduce price. Remember, Croatia Airlines has 8 million deposit tied up at Airbus from those neos they ordered.
ReplyDeleteThe config and range mix allows a mix of routes and increased seasonal routes in which Croatia Airlines would want to investigate.
ReplyDeleteWould be nice but I think it's far fetched.
ReplyDeleteHope it happens.
ReplyDeleteAny wide bodies planned?
ReplyDeleteYes that's really what they need right now...
DeleteBusinesslike, for Croatia Airlines, the MAX makes no sense. The slightly higher capacity compared to E2-190/195 doesn't make up the significantly higher (read: almost double) purchase/lease price and fuel consumption. However I wouldn't be surprised if they will end up with the MAX. At the end it comes to the manufacturer that pays the most to the decisionmakers, being the government. With the MAX being the most expensive aircraft comparing to A220 and E2, they will also be able to pay the highest bribes.
ReplyDeleteGood point 😃
DeleteThey can lease new A319, A320 as Bulgaria Air did!
ReplyDeleteDash can replace them in the coming years with A220 or E2.
In my opinion, they should focus on new destinations from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik.
Is it possible to work only with ATR72?
ReplyDeleteFor example, an order for 20 such aircraft?
They can fly anywhere in Europe. Fantastic for Greek, Italian, Balkan destinations.
Maybe A220 or E2 will be!
ReplyDeleteMAX is big!
Ryanir expansion for summer 2022 will be problem for OU.Their destinations are only 20.FR maybe have 50!
ReplyDeleteA220 or E2 pls!737 is very big for OU!
Zagreb will be FR territory very soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen they will announce new routes from ZAG?!
ReplyDeleteBravo Boston bravo you may choose american plane;).
There won't be any new routes this summer. Best they will do is resume some that were suspended during Covid.
DeleteThis plane will be ideal for ETF AIRWAYS!
ReplyDeleteFleet of OU in my idea:
ReplyDeletethree 737MAX7 for Zagreb
two 737MAX8 and 6 Atr72-600
And 4 737-max7 in Split and Dubrovnik!
Are you kidding?
DeleteFirst Ex yu airline with MAX;)))
ReplyDeleteLet's not get ahead of ourselves haha
DeleteE2 will be perfect!
ReplyDeleteA220 will be perfect for Zagreb not for Split in summer
ReplyDeleteA220 is perfect for LJU base; ))
ReplyDeleteSituation of Yugoslavian airlines :
ReplyDeleteAir Serbia-ok
Air Montenegro- white livery ;(,no
Croatia Airlines -no
FlyBosnia-fake airline
Trade Air,ETF, Air41,Amelia,Air Prishtina,My wings-for now normal small companies.
A220-100 and A220-300 !
ReplyDeleteIt will be A220 because of maintenance i crew trening..nothing gonna change..
ReplyDeleteAnd how does A220 differ with regards to maintenance and crew training from B737?
DeleteWHAT??!!😂
ReplyDeleteAs Plenković is a Brussels’ serf, he will never be allowed to sign a deal with a non-EU airplane manufacturer.
ReplyDeleteTrue
DeleteMAX anxiety. What airline can afford that !!
ReplyDeleteWhile they're playing games, time is passin by, competition is increasing and losses are mounting.
ReplyDeleteSo in the end, can anyone explain why exactly they cancelled the A320 beo order?
ReplyDeleteWord has it that a dirt cheap power by the hour arrangement has been offered for the MAX. OU management jaws have dropped!
ReplyDeleteConsidering a F16 arrangement was not made for military aircraft, the states will be pushing for this business.
I hope that Croatia Airlines think twice before buying the 737 max since I herd that model had a few crash incidents and hopefully Boeing worked out the bugs.
ReplyDelete
