Pre-orders for the 400-page history book “There was once a JAT” (Bio jedan JAT), detailing the rise and fall of JAT Yugoslav Airlines, have begun. The book, written by Jovo Simišić, whose 35-year career at the airline included the drafting of several famous JAT monographies, can now be ordered with a 33% discount. Those purchasing in Serbia can pre-order the publication for 2.000 dinars, instead of the planned retail price of 3.000 dinars, while internationally, the book will cost seventeen euros plus shipping during the pre-order period instead of 25 euros. I was lucky enough to have flown more than 40 flights with JAT to destinations such as ZRH LJU ZAG BEG DBV JFK ORD LAX and with various types such as Caravelle, DC-9, B-737, B-727, DC-10 and ATR42

I flew on JATs DC9, 707,727,737 and the ATRs. Never experienced the big DC10
JAT was the pride of the country,its people and employees. This will never vanish. It was the time when people were happy to be part.of the ailine,unlike nowadays. You cannot understand that feeling.
DeletePoliticians thru Mediapropaganda, economical missmanagement and Geopolitics have destroyed YU. There are political borders now and so on. However, in my hearth and spirit no one can destroy YU, I am born as a Yugoslavian and I will die as a Yugo. I still feel home, whether I am in SPU PUY LJU TIV or BEG and I know plenty of people in our region do so too. I love the region, the people and the culture. Politics I stopped watching since quite some time, it s dividing people instead of unifying them and this counts for basically all of the politics, especially for western politics, perfectly visible right now with Russia.
DeleteAnd even JAT is gone, the code JU still exists, same as the ac registration still start with YU-, and even JAT as a company is no more here, it lives for ever in our hearts.
And looking at JU today, it is still the best managed airline we have in the region. I am happy that JU is connecting the region with Europe, JFK and some other points in the MEA. So there is pride for JU in 2022 too.
Ex YU aviation is a perfect example how much we are still together, we follow developments at all airports, at JU, OU, Air MNE, we are happy if DBV, JU or PRN are succesful with numbers or new carriers. And thats exactly how it should be, there are borders now, but we people stand together and enjoy our great culture, beatiful people and amazing landscapes.
Will there be an English version? I’m Macedonian but born in Australia. My first ever flight was with JAT to SKP via BEG.
