Ukraine’s SkyUp moves jet to Belgrade

NEWS FLASH

Ukrainian carrier SkyUp Airlines has moved one of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Belgrade Airport for interim storage after it was unable to enter Ukrainian airspace mid-flight earlier this week. It came following a warning from the jet’s Irish owner that the aircraft no longer had insurance cover due to a threat of conflict with Russia. The aircraft in question, registered UR-SQO, was en route to Kiev from Funchal in Portugal when it was forced to divert to Chisinau. “We are doing everything possible to continue to operate flights on a regular basis, but we cannot ignore the demands of lessors”, SkyUp said in a statement. The low cost carrier’s other aircraft continue to maintain operations out of Ukraine. Earlier this week, Ukraine International Airlines also stored two of its aircraft in Belgrade over the same issue.

Any guess why BEG is the airport of choice for interim storage of Ukrainian birds? Not the closest, not the cheapest, not the EU/NATO... I find it strange but I guess it's good job for BEG.

There is a world out there, apart from EU and NATO.

Could be that they would do some maintenance while in BEG.
Other reason, I guess Vinci has some general deals with some of the lessors to use their airports...
And their, I think reason is exactly that Serbia is our of EU, so certain taxes can be deducted.

    5. Cheap parking slots probably. There are also maintenance companies that can do parking and other maintenance for them, like Avia Technics.

Some guy thought his airport would grow bigger than BEG because of EU/NATO but it didn't happen.

Maybe JU can use this airplane on a wet/dry lease at a fair price if things pick up over the next few months. I'm sure that all parties would be happy.

This isn't rent-a-plane servise! Wet/dry lease takes time to plane and book.

  3. Adria tehnika is renting Jat Tehnika space and workers to work on the jets from what I've heard.
