Low cost carrier Ryanair has introduced a raft of changes for its upcoming summer timetable out of Croatia, from which it will boast two bases - one in Zagreb and the other in Zadar. The airline will delay the launch of 24 of its routes from Zadar. The majority of the flights that were to be introduced next weekend have now been shifted to early June, while a handful of other routes have been delayed until the start of May. The affected destinations include Aarhus, Bucharest, Bordeaux, Bari, Bologna, Bergamo, Bournemouth, Birmingham, Gothenburg, Gdansk, Hamburg, Liverpool, Maastricht, Manchester, Naples, Nuremberg, Prague, Pisa, Sofia, Turin, Warsaw and Wroclaw. Ryanair plans to have three aircraft based in the coastal city this summer.
The budget carrier has also modified some of its Zagreb operations. Apart from launching three new routes - to Bratislava, Brindisi and Corfu - it will increase frequencies on a number of destinations, while at the same time decrease others. Services to Charleroi, Bergamo, Malta, Memmingen Malmo, Paphos, Rome and Weeze will all see an additional weekly rotation added. Furthermore, the carrier’s upcoming new service to Bratislava, which was initially planned to operate two times per week, has been increased to three weekly. On the other hand, the airline will reduce frequencies on flights to Dublin by one weekly service for a total of three, and will operate its planned new Corfu route once per week instead of the initially planned two weekly rotations.
Ryanair will boast its biggest summer operation out of Croatia this year, with the carrier to maintain 83 routes out of the country. “We can see that demand in Croatia is generally very high. We can also see that the Croatian market has huge potential. There were many routes missing and the whole potential of Croatia wasn’t utilised in the past. The Ryanair Group recognised this and we, as Lauda Europe, are very happy that we can operate these flights for the Ryanair Group. There is also further growth planned for the future. This year we will operate three aircraft, not only from Zagreb, but out of Zadar as well. We won’t stop with these six aircraft in Croatia”, the Director of Operations of Ryanair’s subsidiary Lauda Europe, Tadej Notersberg, said.
And people said no one will go to BTS to fly with them because there is OU and OS from VIE.
ReplyDeleteUnless transfers return the two legacies will struggle bug time.
OU and OS will loose a lot of P2P traffic on the route.
DeleteAlso - both Croatia and Eurowings failed at PRG, while Ryan adds new flight to BTS. Will finally someone make Prague work from Zagreb?
DeleteOS already cut ZAG on a few occasions since covid started. I guess there is too much capacity.
DeletePoint is that Croats just can't get enough of FR's cheap tickets
@9.20 CSA also failed but I'm hoping that with Ryanair's cost structure they could make Prague work. Although not sure if B737/A320 is too big.
DeleteBy expanding in SPU without growing its fleet OU is already giving up the fight in ZAG.
DeleteWhy are they delaying the Zadar routes so much?
ReplyDeleteThey were overoptimistic to launch a range of routes to Zadar at the end of March, when most people go on holiday in June, July and August. The pandemic is still going strong (in Germany and Austria it is worse than ever). Many people have delayed or cancelled holidays because of current war in Ukraine. I'm guessing all these factors contributed.
DeleteAnonymous 9:17. "Worst than ever". Source, please.
DeleteGermany reports record high of nearly 300,000 new COVID-19 cases
Deletehttps://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/germany-reports-record-high-of-nearly-300-000-new-covid-19-cases/2539017
Quite a few countries in Europe are seeing a surge in cases. Hopefully it will be short term.
DeleteIt would be only fair now to blacklist Germany and subject their citizens to 10 day quarantine when travelling since they did that to others. They obviously can't control the disease.
DeleteNo one will do that. But when it spreads from Germany to the rest of Europe, they will be quick to introduce entry restrictions.
Delete@9.17 you are probably right. A week ago there was an article that Croatia bookings have taken a hit because of the war in Ukraine (which is stupid really but hey). Air Canada has cancelled its planned flights to Budapest citing the war in Ukraine.
DeleteGreat to see them increasing many ZAG flights.
ReplyDeleteThe future of Croatia is on the coast.
ReplyDeleteThe future of Croatia is on its entire teritory, providing we get rid of the Mafia which organized life in Croatia to fit their particular interests only
DeleteI hope we will see some more new FR routes from Zagreb this summer.
ReplyDeleteI think it is possible we see new routes but probably not until winter.
Delete"Ryanair will boast its biggest summer operation out of Croatia this year, with the carrier to maintain 83 routes out of the country."
ReplyDeleteWOW 83 routes. They will be the biggest airline in Croatia by number of routes offered.
The biggest in the exYu by number of routes. And they needed less than year to achieve that (not to mention what kind of year that was/is)
DeleteBut only in summer.
DeleteYes and they got special discounts which OU didn't
DeleteYes, poor OU, I feel so sorry for them as they never got a single cent from the state
DeleteHow many of those 83 are from Zadar?
Delete46!!!!
DeleteWow impressive
DeleteI'm interested to see how Brindisi will perform from Zagreb. Shame about Corfu going down to one weekly.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they perform like Malaga which has done really well.
DeleteZadar doesn't have a touristic offering until at least June as a lot of workers are still on their winter break. That horrible phrase "the season" means just mid June to September in which prices go through the roof.
ReplyDeleteNot true. Sailing on Kornati, 4 national parks around, lot of history, gastronomy, tourists are coming to Zadar in big numbers outside of 3 peak months as well. These cuts are due to covid and Ukraine war
DeleteSo from what I can gather they will have one plane based in ZAD from next week, a second in May and a third in June?
ReplyDeleteYes, seems like it
DeleteWhich route out of Zagreb will have the most frequencies?
ReplyDeleteI mean which Ryanair route out of Zagreb
DeleteWhich route out of Zagreb will have the most frequnecies?
DeleteYes, it is London
DeleteIt was written here a few weeks ago that UK and Ireland are their best performing markets ftom Zagreb. Then Germany and Sweden.
DeleteNot surprised
DeleteWish they flew to Zadar outside of summer.
ReplyDeleteIf most routes are being moved from April to June, I doubt we will see them in Zadar in winter.
DeleteIf the Zadar County Tourist Board pays additional money, they would..
DeleteFR would fly empty planes if they got paid for it and made money.
DeleteWhich company wouldn't? Actually, OU with their LF is much closer to the goal of flying empty planes than FR. And they got paid to fly (almost) empty planes, and not even make but lose money
DeleteIs an upcoming ZAG-ATH route possible by FR?
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed. Although I don't it's likely. They launched Thessaloniki instead. They can't get subsidies for Athens because it is served seasonally by Aegean.
DeleteI don't understand why they added Thessaloniki instead of Athens which is currently without a year-round service to Zagreb.
DeleteLike anon 16.20 said. They wouldn't have gotten incentives from Zagreb Airport if they added Athens. They need to add routes that have not been served from Zagreb in the last 2 years.
DeleteWishing them good luck on the new routes.
ReplyDeleteZadar base is quite huge actually especially with 3 plane operation. Pity it's just not a permanent base.
ReplyDeleteSome Zadar flights are operated by aircraft from other bases. So not all destinations are served with just those 3 planes.
DeleteIt's not actually that huge. When you look at other airports that have a large increase in summer flying many airports in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Greece have many more flights.
