NEWS FLASH
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport’s expansion project is continuing to advance. Following the opening of its extended C pier, the bulk of the work is now cantered around the reconfiguration of the access plateau in front of the terminal buildings and the construction of a central processor, which will enable the airport to boast 100 check-in desks, up to 1.200 square metres of additional retail space and an expanded arrivals area. This project will allow for faster access and more efficient traffic flow, as well as increased short-term parking capacity.
Construction work inside the terminal buildings is also continuing, with a third floor being added above all the departure gates. Furthermore, the A7 - A10 gates have now been closed off where work is expected to take place on their reconfiguration and overhaul in the near future. The remaining A pier gates are now being transformed to match those from the C pier, as well as the airport’s new open floor concept. All arriving and departing passengers are now segregated and no longer mix on the first floor, with the main staircase between the departures and arrivals level, which was previously used, now closed.
Work on the 3.500-metre-long inserted runway, as well the reconstruction of part of the main parallel taxiway, are also gaining pace, while the construction of the airport’s new control tower is nearing completion. A number of other projects, including a new de-icing platform, helicopter terminal and new taxiways are also advancing.
BEG will be unrecognizable ... which is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI had my doubts but the control tower actually looks really nice
ReplyDeleteLooks better than I thought it would. The colour scheme helps.
DeleteI would also like to add that the issue with taxis seems to be resolved. Now when you come out into the waiting area the first thing you see is a taxi booth. Taxis are also lining up at the beginning of the parking lot.
ReplyDeleteThis expansion was long overdue and I am happy it's finally happening.
Dealing with the taxi mafia hooligans has been a nightmare and a serious blight for arriving passengers, especial foreigners. I will take a wait and see approach with this. Taxi criminal minds have a way to 'work around' certain restrictions.
DeleteTrue but at least now they can't interact with passengers before they are handled by the taxi booth.
DeleteNot for the night flights - I got back form Larnaca just after midnight after Easter, even though you take the voucher from the taxi stand, there are only 4 vehicles waiting (two planes were arriving), combining passengers under the pretext of "there is no vehicles" and charging the price of voucher per passenger. They are super aggressive, and refuse the New Belgrade rides. I had to walk out of parking, and luckily there was a Naxis about to enter the parking who agreed to take me. I was among the first ones to leave the plane, can't imagine what was for the rest of the people. It could be that it was due to Easter, but still.
DeleteWrote a complaint to the airport that they should inform passengers better about the taxi situation, they did not even say "we are sorry for your experience", they just sent me the contacts from the city and police.
Well, I´ll hope that the area above the gates will get windows. When i passed through last week it was light every where but not natural one.
ReplyDeleteIt was a hugr disapointment for me as well
DeleteWhat happens with the rent a car parking? Where is it now?
ReplyDeleteEnclosed car park across control tower.
DeleteIs this means that that passport control at Terminal 1 does not exist anymore
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how and where the domestic flights will be handled? Will there be a special and fast gate like the one in Sofia for example where you don't have to pass via passport control.
ReplyDeleteYou already have that in BEG.
DeleteCool, didn't know that. Thanks :)
DeleteA11 is gate for domestic flights
DeletePassenger access to gate A11 (domestic departures) is from the T1 check in counter area, and not from the transit hall above where all the other A gates are.
DeleteLittle correction, gates A7 to A10 are closed, A11 is domestic flights gate. But stands will be used for ATRs while gates are under construction
ReplyDeleteAnd what about gate A6? They are skipping that one?
DeleteYes they are renovating the entire airport but will leave A6... are you for real?
DeleteIpak mi se čini da je novi toranj mogao biti lepše uradjen. Vidite kako su turci napravili svoj na novom istanbulskom ap
ReplyDeleteДа ли се зна када ће прорадити гејтови Ц1 - Ц6?
ReplyDeleteI had a flight from C14 the other day. It's a LOONG walk. No kiosks or anything in the new area, so grab your Hleb and Kifle before heading to the gate. It's really a different look without the security at each gate [yes, I have a little silly nostalgia] but it is very modern.
ReplyDeleteThe airport is very BUSY right now but the staff are doing a great job handling it and movement is pretty smooth. You also get a better understanding of the logic of separating arriving passengers from departing; much less congestion.
The only MAJOR problem is the parking and passenger drop-off area, which looks like it will be around for a long time.
Good to know, will be landing at BEG in a few weeks after a two year absence.
DeleteCan someone who knows about runway design explain that little V shaped outlet on the third from last foto?
