Belgrade Airport reaches 92% of pre-Covid traffic

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport handled some 468.000 passengers in May, representing a decrease of just 7.8% on the pre-pandemic 2019. Aircraft movements declined 6.8% on the same month three years ago. As a result, Belgrade reached 92.2% of its pre-Covid traffic levels during the month, with the airport forecasting it will attain its pre-pandemic figures this summer. Aiding its performance in May was the Final Four basketball tournament, which saw a number of additional flights from Greece and Spain, as well as increased capacity on a number of services. The start of the summer charter season, which is set to reach record levels this year, also boosted May’s performance.

Operator VINCI noted, “Belgrade Airport is prepared for a busy summer season, during which many are planning to travel for the first time in two years. This season, passengers can travel to more than 100 destinations, considering that almost all routes that were operational prior to the pandemic have now been restored, while sixteen new destinations have been added and numerous charter flights are available to the most popular summer holiday hotspots”. It added, “Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport expects a significant increase in the number of passengers in the coming weeks and has undertaken all necessary measures to meet the needs of growing traffic volumes”.

Over the January - May period, Belgrade Airport welcomed approximately 1.600.864 passengers, which is still down 20% on 2019, but almost three times more on the same period last year. The number of commercial aircraft movements have decreased 15% on the same timeframe three years ago. This June is expected to be a busy one for the airport, with a number of carriers increasing frequencies to the Serbian capital, while the national airline has inaugurated ten new routes over the past two weeks. In addition, Aegean Airlines has launched two new scheduled services to Belgrade this month.

I think he meant in May. Because in May this year the difference is 202,683 passengers while in 2019 it was 197,059. So actually the difference is bigger than before the pandemic and Ryanair's arrival in Zagreb.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous11:19

Normal. There are no extra costs for Air Serbia, because every flight - departure from BEG is going for INI flghts that day. On average there is 30 passangers. So, even if there is 5 passangers, the would be still making money. And just wait for next year, flights will be full.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous22:52

Why you expect next year to be dramatically different?
I am also positive about this route, but curious about your comment.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous08:17

@22.52, Because many many many people do not ever realise that there is connection to INI. My aunt was flying in from New York, she said if I only knew that there is a such possibility, she would have taken it. My whole entire family from abroad did not know. Air Serbia does not do any promotion of the line because it is not really important for them, so it is just matter of time, hoping hext year, when this line becomes stabile. And also, I was talking to some poeple at BEG, they also said that all passangers, mainly Serbs, are really surprised that such link exist.
