Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport handled some 468.000 passengers in May, representing a decrease of just 7.8% on the pre-pandemic 2019. Aircraft movements declined 6.8% on the same month three years ago. As a result, Belgrade reached 92.2% of its pre-Covid traffic levels during the month, with the airport forecasting it will attain its pre-pandemic figures this summer. Aiding its performance in May was the Final Four basketball tournament, which saw a number of additional flights from Greece and Spain, as well as increased capacity on a number of services. The start of the summer charter season, which is set to reach record levels this year, also boosted May’s performance.
Operator VINCI noted, “Belgrade Airport is prepared for a busy summer season, during which many are planning to travel for the first time in two years. This season, passengers can travel to more than 100 destinations, considering that almost all routes that were operational prior to the pandemic have now been restored, while sixteen new destinations have been added and numerous charter flights are available to the most popular summer holiday hotspots”. It added, “Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport expects a significant increase in the number of passengers in the coming weeks and has undertaken all necessary measures to meet the needs of growing traffic volumes”.
Over the January - May period, Belgrade Airport welcomed approximately 1.600.864 passengers, which is still down 20% on 2019, but almost three times more on the same period last year. The number of commercial aircraft movements have decreased 15% on the same timeframe three years ago. This June is expected to be a busy one for the airport, with a number of carriers increasing frequencies to the Serbian capital, while the national airline has inaugurated ten new routes over the past two weeks. In addition, Aegean Airlines has launched two new scheduled services to Belgrade this month.
Congrats BEG!
ReplyDeleteWell done Belgrade!
ReplyDeleteI think Wizz also resumes Herakleion today while Santorini was resumed a few days ago. Hopefully next year they add Lisbon.
ReplyDeleteI'm hopeful there will be a few more new routes from Wizz this winter or next year.
DeleteThey already launched a couple this year.
DeleteWizz will expand in BEG sooner or later. I am sure they are going to be adding LIS and CGN among other routes. I could see them launch Berlin flights too.
DeleteLCC Berlin flights from BEG are really needed, yes. W6 serves DTM and I don't think they are interested in CGN.
DeleteEspecially since easyjet left the Berlin route
DeleteWizz added FCO, BCN, HHN, Vaxjo, NCE and FCO from Belgrade this year. Quite a lot.
DeleteI think CGN and LIS are their last remaining links. Now it's time to work on frequencies
DeleteRemember, the flights from INI and KVO have taken a lot of traffic from BEG this year. Otherwise BEG would have surpasded 2019
DeleteYou think so?
DeleteI think they took more passengers from bus companies rather than BEG.
DeleteThat's good.
DeleteThose are good numbers.
ReplyDeleteToday there are almost 90 commercial departures, tomorrow over 100.
ReplyDeleteOver a hundred tomorrow is the record for this year. Most we had until now was 97 or 98.
DeleteDidn't realize that. Good news
DeleteWhat could be the numbers for June?
ReplyDeleteAround 480.000, there is no Final Four
DeleteThere are 12 new routes this month
DeleteHow many passenger were there in June 2019?
Delete^ 602,466
DeleteI believe that this month we will have over 550,000 passengers
Delete^ Yes, that seems realistic.
DeleteThis is impressive
ReplyDelete"This season, passengers can travel to more than 100 destinations"
How many new routes from BEG so far this year?
Delete16
DeleteI wonder what was JU's passenger share in May.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that it has improved and is probably around 38-40%
DeleteJust imagine if no war and beg has flights to rus ukr and minsk
DeleteNice to see the airport returning to life.
ReplyDeleteencouraging trends.
ReplyDeleteWould be fantastic if they could handle similar numbers to 2019 this year.
ReplyDeleteWon't happen this year.
DeleteI think BEG will be close but not at pre pandemic levels this year (passenger wise I mean).
DeleteLet's wait and see.
DeleteThe overall trend will continue and I assume they will be around 15% below 2019.
DeleteHow many passengers were there in 2019 total?
Delete6.1 million
DeleteIs 5 million passengers realistic for this year?
ReplyDeleteyes
DeleteThey should surpass 5 million easily.
DeleteCongratulations. Good result.
ReplyDeleteEspecially since Aeroflot, Nordwind and Windrose flights ended.
DeleteTrue. Aeroflot had a flight each day plus Nordwind a couple of week as well as Windrose.
DeleteHope we see more new airlines.
ReplyDeleteI really hope they work on getting BA back to BEG.
DeleteAre they needed?
DeleteNot really, I'd rather get someone like U2 or W6 from LGW.
DeleteI like the variety of airlines.
DeleteAgree. Bit of everything for everyone :)
DeleteI would like them to attract more European legacies
DeleteBelgrade needs flights to Riyadh and Kuwait City .
DeleteFlynas and Jazeera would fit best in for that .
Above my expectations to be honest.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteAnd great to see that operations are at over 93%
ReplyDeleteIt means loads are returning to pre Covid levels too.
DeleteInteresting to see that the passenger difference between BEG and ZAG is now at 2019 levels despite Ryanair in ZAG.
ReplyDeleteJanuary-May difference is 594,391
DeleteAnd in 2019 it was 815,528 difference. So Anon 9.32 you are incorrect.
DeleteI think he meant in May. Because in May this year the difference is 202,683 passengers while in 2019 it was 197,059. So actually the difference is bigger than before the pandemic and Ryanair's arrival in Zagreb.
DeleteI believe there will be some exciting times ahead for BEG
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteSome interesting facts. Although they are 3 totally different airports, the traffic is quite similar:
ReplyDeleteBEG: 1.600.864
SKG: 1.787.920
SOF: 2.077.729
SKG is also expected to have a quite busy summer!
How did Tirana perform in May? Would be interesting to compare.
DeleteSofia won't be that busy this summer, Wizz I think terminated six destinations three of which a leisure to Greece
DeleteNope anon 09:49, 3 of those Greek destinations are actually back. FR have returned with more frequencies in many routes especially to Spain, UK and Germany.
DeleteCrazy
DeleteBig boost will be Germany ending all Covid measures for Serbian citizen this. It no longer even requires you to be vaccinated to enter.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteNice pic! :)
ReplyDeleteBig construction site
DeleteSeems like things are looking up for BEG.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know what was the busiest route?
ReplyDeleteAegean needs to go daily, their Middle East network could attract many transit passengers from BEG.
ReplyDeleteHave they ever operated daily flights to BEG?
DeleteNo they haven't. The maximum was 6.
DeleteBEG needs more flights to the Middle East
DeleteI hope Belgrade is next for Flynas and Jazeera Airways.
DeleteRJ should launch Belgrade since JU chickened out.
DeleteFor Royal Jordanian it would be a comeback .
DeleteThey already flew to Belgrade when it was capital of Yugoslavia ...
Yes and their subsidiary Royal Wings flew to Belgrade for one season, I think in 2008.
DeleteAnyone have any idea how INI- BEG is performing?
ReplyDeleteNormal. There are no extra costs for Air Serbia, because every flight - departure from BEG is going for INI flghts that day. On average there is 30 passangers. So, even if there is 5 passangers, the would be still making money. And just wait for next year, flights will be full.
DeleteWhy you expect next year to be dramatically different?
DeleteI am also positive about this route, but curious about your comment.
@22.52, Because many many many people do not ever realise that there is connection to INI. My aunt was flying in from New York, she said if I only knew that there is a such possibility, she would have taken it. My whole entire family from abroad did not know. Air Serbia does not do any promotion of the line because it is not really important for them, so it is just matter of time, hoping hext year, when this line becomes stabile. And also, I was talking to some poeple at BEG, they also said that all passangers, mainly Serbs, are really surprised that such link exist.
DeleteGreat results for BEG
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I didn't expect such a quick recovery. Yes, I doubt passenger numbers will be the same as in 2019 but I didn't expect that it would be even close.
ReplyDeleteTommorrow 100 + departures! Great
ReplyDeleteHow many of them are with turboprops?
Delete20
DeleteLots of charters: Rhodes, Monastir x2, Antalya x3, Corfu, Hurghada
DeleteAntalya x4 sorry
DeleteBut that's nothing compared to Saturday when there will be: Bodrum x2, Rhodes, Antalya x8, Hurghada x4,
DeleteThe Middle East, Caucuses and long distance flights are coming in the next 12 months. Go BEG!
ReplyDeleteWhat long distance flights announced for the next 12 months?
DeleteFingers crossed
DeleteIt's funny JU has no flights to the Middle East considering it is still partially owned by Etihad.
Delete
