Lufthansa will be reducing operations on a number of routes this July due to a shortage of staff and capacity issues. While the majority of its destinations in the former Yugoslavia have been unscathed, the airline will cut a number of departures from Munich to both Belgrade and Zagreb. Services from the Bavarian capital to Belgrade will be reduced from the planned 21 weekly flights to thirteen weekly services, while Zagreb will see a reduction from seven weekly rotations to six. The carrier’s operations are set to be fully restored in August, however, this is likely to change. In both Europe and North America, thousands of flights have been cancelled and hundreds of thousands of passengers have had their trips disrupted over the past few weeks, primarily due to a shortage of qualified personnel at airports to handle the recent surge in passenger traffic. The rapid elimination of Covid-19 protocols and restrictions in these markets since March have generated a significant increase in the demand for air travel, with volumes of passengers that haven’t been seen in more than two years.

ReplyDeleteMUC was a sorry mess last night. Hundreds of people stuck in Service Centre queues, LH closed up shop at 23:30 and asked the remaining pax to wait until 6:00 for an update. Lounges closed at 22:00 sharp. No accommodation provided to stranded pax, it was each man for himself, with Lufthansa promising reimbursement for lodging costs up to 150€ per person (poor people have no idea they'll be waiting for compensation until Xmas).
ReplyDeleteMy flight to MXP was delayed by almost two hours and ended up being the last departure of the day, taking off after midnight. I did have to dish out 120€ for the taxi ride home, but at least I got back.

Delete@Vlad, i've also been to Munich two days ago, and i had to sleep there because of the three hours delay of EN from Venice, and there were no flights to Brussels at 9PM when i arrived at MUC, and i had to took the LH flight 2284 at 8 o clock the next morning. They only gave us small chocolates and water, and that was it, and at 10 o clock all the shops were close to 6 o clock the next morning. The Lufthansa Service for Flight changes, was closed at 11.30 PM to 6AM, and i ve waited 3 hours to get the information that i am going to sleep at MUC. They gave as some covers and that was ALL! And the restrooms were really bad, and all the 30 minutes i could here the announcements of Lufthansa Service, even after midnight. Absolutely a mess in MUC, i agree with you on that point!

DeleteThis is an opportunity for JU to increase its market share. LF for flights from Germany are close to 100%. Too bad JU does not havr bigger planes that they could use.

The problem is that the airports generally pay way to little for this job so that they have a massive labour shortage .
Not a single word mentioned today that BEG bound pax stuck in FRA were abandoned by LH, 40 of them sent on a flight direct to BEG, 60 offered to travel via ZAG, TSR or SJJ and to take a bus to Belgrade.

That is reason, because it is still with serious carriers, like a Swiss or Lufthansa.
