Ryanair will be extending the reduction of planned frequencies and the temporary suspension of several destinations out of its Zagreb base until mid-July. The network cutbacks, which initially began in May, were due to conclude at the end of June. However, the airline has now extended the suspension of its Basel, Sofia and Bridnisi service until July 18. Flights to Sandefjord, Malaga and Paphos will run only once per week until mid-July, while frequency cuts have also been extended for Bergamo, Charleroi, Hahn, Gothenburg, Malmo, Malta, Memmingen and Weeze. Services to Corfu, which were to be inaugurated in June, have been pushed back until early July and reduced to just one flight per week.
Ryanair has reduced its Zagreb capacity by 35.000 seats this June. The latest development is the fifth month since the start of the year that Ryanair has either temporarily suspended or reduced its number of flights out of Zagreb. In January and February, sixteen of Ryanair’s routes from the Croatian capital were temporarily suspended due to reduced demand resulting from a resurgence in the coronavirus pandemic. The airline has provided no explanation for its latest decision. Staffing issues and a lack of equipment are believed to be partially to blame. The airline currently has two aircraft based in the Croatian capital, instead of three as initially planned.
Ryanair is also extending its frequency reductions and delaying the launch of a select numbers of new routes at its seasonal Zadar base. New services to Helsinki, Turin and Bournemouth, which had already been delayed until the start of June, will now be pushed back by another two weeks, when a third aircraft will be stationed in the coastal city. Despite the delays, this summer will be Ryanair’s busiest in Zadar with the budget carrier to operate 120 flights to 46 destinations, six of which are brand new. The inaugural flights to Bordeaux, Nuremberg and Sofia, which were also delayed earlier this year until early June will go ahead as planned this week.
But why?
ReplyDeleteSeems most of the non gasto routes are affected.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Basel, Hahn, Memmingen, Weeze, Malmo, Gothenburg and Sandefjord are all non gasto
DeleteCutting flights in June and July during the height of summer season is not a good sign.
ReplyDeleteHow come they don't have staffing issues at their other bases in Europe? Sorry I'm not buying it.
ReplyDeleteBecause it's probably more than just staff problems.
DeleteI don't think it's just staffing issues, they also had cuts when they had enough crew.
DeleteOf course it is not staff issue.
DeleteThey simply do not have good demand & sales in ZAG. If they cut the flights during high season, what can we expect in October & November?
Disaster.
A good indication is that half of the Zagreb network is not on sale from November.
DeleteThey were promising up to 9 aircraft this summer, and they currently have only 2
ReplyDelete9?
Delete🤣🤣🤣

Deletehaha that was a good one! 9 would make ZAG the biggest airport in the region :D
DeleteI can only imagine what the comments would have been like if an ex-Yu airline cancelled half of its network.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteI really don't understand this.
ReplyDeleteNot a good way to get customers on side.
ReplyDeleteYes but most people bought return tickets for 15 euros so it's not such a huge loss.
DeleteSo? Just because the tickets were 15 euros does not make the situation any better. Many people booked accommodation, tours etc based around the tickets they purchased. They also might have taken holiday leave from work and particular dates.
DeleteFR are an airline which is all about making money.. If something doesn't work, they cancel it or suspend flights. No emotions whatsoever.
DeleteLet's hope it's not extended till August.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Ryanair's results in ZAG. What is their average load factor.
ReplyDeleteThese decisions speak for themselves.
DeleteLoad factor could be at 100 per cent and they still won't have good yields. Tickets are artificially low in price. Why do you think they have all these ad-ons or surprise charges. A good example would be ,and this is by reading trip reports, that system is down and people cannot check in on kine. When they check in at airport because of this, passengers have to pay.Airport staff would know if system was down. There would be alerts. My opinion just another way to try to help increase a low yield for a flight.
DeleteDisaster
ReplyDeleteGood riddance to them! The sooner they depart Croatia for good, the better!
ReplyDeleteWhy? They bring so many passengers to Croatia.
DeleteZadar maybe, but not Zagreb
DeleteZAG's passenger numbers show differently. Especially in March and April when they were operating at full capacity.
DeleteIt's really unfortunate for ZAG. Quite a lot of routes.
ReplyDeleteAnd some here in the comments were saying how OU will not survive the summer because of FR.
ReplyDeleteIt's not far off.
DeleteWhat is Zagreb Airport doing about this? I'm sure their heavily discounted service agreement does not envisage them canceling over 50% of their flights.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the agreement has a clause about these kinds of situations.
DeleteGet into bed with FR and expect uncertainty.
Delete+1
DeleteWell if ZAD sues them they go completely so Zagreb airport is in loose-loose situation.
DeleteAnd imagine if it was the other way around and ZAG somehow broke the terms of the agreement? FR would pull out and sue them straight away
DeleteMany routes from Zagreb are not on sale for winter season... More cuts!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteThey probably still haven't finalized the winter schedule. Or I hope at least.
DeleteDo you know which routes are not sale? I wouldn't be surprised at all if they discontinue many routes.
DeleteFrom what I can see. No longer bookable for winter are: Basel, Bratislava, Brindisi, Eindhoven, Hahn, Karlsruhe, Malaga, Milan, Oslo, Paphos, Sofia and Thessaloniki. Around half the network.
Deletewow
DeleteThis must be down to them not loading winter schedules yet for certain routes. Or at least I hope so. If all of these are cancelled than it is a massive downgrade.
DeleteWhat the hell iz going on?
DeleteThis reminds me a bit of JU's first year under its rebranding. They increased almost all routes in the network to double daily and then realized there simply isn't a market for it.
Delete@anon 09:46
DeleteI randomly checked the routes you wrote and it is not correct all of them can't be booked for winter.
Sofia, Basel, Eindhove, Bratislava etc are in FR system for this winter.
I went to their website and all of the cities that are mentioned above can't be booked from November. No available dates are offered.
DeleteSorry my friend but you are doing something wrong.
DeletePrices are there and if you wish I can list them for you.
For example ZAG-SOF
06.12 - 10.12 = 83 EUR
I just checked again and they seemed to have loaded it since I looked this morning. And I noticed other people wrote here too that the flights were not available so it's not just me going crazy.
DeleteI was already surprised about Eindhoven. Cause it was never part of their cuts. I have flown the route a couple of times and it is always packed.
DeleteFor those who don't fly with Ryanair that much, those "disappearances" of the timetable is quite normal. The same happens in their app. They just continuously revise pricing and schedule. So this morning it was gone and now it's back again. Nothing new.
DeleteBut Thessoliniki are not even available in June.
DeleteThat's odd re SKG
DeleteReal disappointment.
ReplyDeleteIt's Ryanair, what did you expect?
DeleteThis will go into the rest of July and August eventually.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. The flights should start in the middle of June since that is when the third plane should come.
DeleteFingers crossed but not looking good.
DeleteWhat is Ryanair's policy when your ticket is cancelled? Do they offer full compensation or give you a voucher?
ReplyDeleteYou choose between the two.
DeletePerhaps there was a reason OU wasn't flying these routes, or simply FR does not have a suitable aircraft for these routes.
ReplyDeleteNow would be the time for OU to attack Ryanai
DeleteDo you honestly think they will do anything? The fact is that Ryan Air can do as it pleases because it has no competition. They chased OU out of a number of routes from ZAG and now they decrease frequencies on the same ones.
DeleteCrazy! How long with this go for? Every month they extend it.
ReplyDeleteLet's see what happens in the second half of July.
ReplyDeleteMy guess; more canceled flights
DeleteIs there any other airline that lies and it is as pathetic as Ryanair?
ReplyDeleteWizz is golden in comparison.
I wonder who ZAG-PFO in the winter time , route must be really unprofitable even in summer period thats why they redused it.
ReplyDeleteIt is no longer on sale for next winter.
DeleteYes, it is.
DeleteReturn price for randomly chosen dates
21.11 - 25.11 = 129 EUR
I flew PFO-ZAG in March. LF 100 %, plane full up to the last seat
DeleteI guess loads were there but not the yields, it is a long flight.
DeleteI'm surprised Basel is the one continuously cancelled. I would have thought it would be one of their better performing routes.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm also surprised by some of the routes they are decreasing from Zagreb
DeleteDo we know how flights to Thessaloniki are performing? They still haven't reduced SKG which means they have good loads?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunate, although I'm not so surprised about Zagreb-Corfu. I very much doubted in that route's success since it was announced.
ReplyDeleteSame with Paphos.
DeleteAs POZDRAV says it is Croatia's fault as a country because of corruption , and that's making the airlines to go away !
ReplyDeleteAre you for real?
DeleteNo he is not. He must mention me in negative context because Adeze is paying his sandwiches to advocate them destroying the country, OU included
DeleteWell POZDRAV from what's you are writing ,you've just proved me right ! Bye - bye !
DeleteWell, Adeze bot, your Party obviously made Croatia that much poor and that much depopulated that people, those who still haven't left, live in such misery that they can't afford any more even Ryanair. Important is that we all pay for Private Adeze Airline OU, which is there, and will be there as long as convicted criminal organization is destroying Croatia, because it is there just for financial and non financial benefits of the bunch of selected. So yes, I proved you right as a bot
DeleteBye-bye!
DeleteBut mr. Pozdrav you've said that you've seen Croatians in every corner of the world, that they love to travel! How do they afford it!
DeleteFirst of all, it was reply to statement "Croatians don't travel abroad". And generalising brought no good to no one, ever. And Croatians travel. And yes, I have been seeing Croatians all around the World. The same as you can see Serbians, Albanians, Turks, Ukrainians and people from other countries poorer than Croatia. It has nothing to do with the fact that Adeze made Croatia poorer than it was before, and much more depopulated, and that with such politics there will be less and less people in Croatia who can afford to travel, even with Ryanair. And part of the story is Croatia Airlines, which had opportunity to be main carrier in the Balkans, not only because of its home market, which opportunity Adeze totally wasted and ruined the company. So sorry you can't "catch" the basics I talk about.
DeleteDear POZDRAV , you know for sure you can't prove anything , just empty accusations !!! Bye-Bye !!!
DeleteProve? Are you blind and deaf?
DeleteI am not the one who needs to prove anything. You may ask me thousand more times to prove my accusations, but Croatian judiciary system, weak and under Adeze influence, even such judiciary, finally verdicted your beloved Party which destroyed Croatia, to be criminal organization. And you dare asking me all over again proves? Better be quite and eat your sandwich
DeleteAnd this ends my posting on today's topic
DeleteProofs POZDRAV Proofs !!! See you tomorrow !!!
DeleteI can't see the FR experiment at ZAG lasting much longer, inbound tourism is minimal and outbound holidaymakers small. OU had the right network for ZAG, it is just the company is poorly run and overbloated with needless staff.
ReplyDeleteWell it's sad if FR leav ZAG, im flying every two weeks from NRN or DTM to ZAG. PAX numbers for NRN are nako ;) but DTM burning. Its cheap, well if i compare this whit the "better times" i paid about for EW 100-200 Eur, LH/OS 150-250 EUR for the same service. :(
ReplyDeleteSlomila je srpanjska rupa i jace igrace od RA.
DeleteSomething else here to think about. Ryanair may try to ask the airport for further reductions in fees. If they don't get, they will just close up in Zagreb
ReplyDeleteMaybe there are not enough passengers...
ReplyDeleteWith on-going crisis, inflation, price surge, Id also think twice about spending few hundred Euros for a weekend, let alone a proper holiday at croatian seaside 😅
Well you must be one of just a few since all European airlines approach (or even exceed) their pre-covid capacities to Croatian seaside. JU included.
DeleteIt's one thing to schedule flights and another to fill them. Dubrovnik underperformed in May despite all those extra flights.
DeleteI don't see anyone decreasing Dubrovnik. Yes, they lack intercontinental travelers and they will not come back this year
DeleteWhat is the rationale behind FRA ZAD love affair? 46 destinations, 450 rotations? Anybody? It's not just money FRA gets.
ReplyDeleteLet's see what it can be. Demand?
DeleteI am not surprised about Brindisi. Honestly, I couldn't believe it was italy. For me it was one of the creepiest and ugliest towns I have seen. Bari or Lecce are all so completely different. I don't know why not shift to Bari instead where there is a small exYugo community living there especiallt from Serbia.
ReplyDeleteThat's why JU went for Bari and not Brindisi.
DeleteRyanair flies Zadar to Bari twice weekly. LF 80%.
ReplyDeleteI missed the email that our Birmingham to Zadar flight on 15th June is cancelled. Only found out when logging on to check in on Tuesday. Return flight on 22nd wasn't cancelled so switched outbound to Stansted. Seriously concerned that return flight will be cancelled. Would prefer to find out sooner than risk being stranded.
ReplyDeleteThe UK, except from STN, is a big mess right now in terms of handling. I recommend avoiding check-in luggage, whatever you have take with you on board.
Delete
