Croatian air traffic controllers call off strike

The union representing Croatian air traffic controllers has called off a planned strike for this weekend, which would have disrupted air traffic in the country and resulted in a number of cancelled flights. The union will resume talks with the national administration over better working conditions, as well as improved pay. The union’s main complaint centres around overworked and overstretched staff. “This job is one of the most stressful in the world, and we have been continuously warning about being overburdened. We think meeting our demands should top the priority list, which is why we still hope to find some understanding with the national administration so that air traffic can continue to be unhindered”, the union said. The aviation industry is facing a shortage of air traffic controllers as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the past two years, hiring and training of air traffic controllers was severely disrupted. The union said that if talks with the administration fail, it will resort to industrial action.
