Morava Airport handles over 7.000 passengers

NEWS FLASH

Operator Airports of Serbia has told EX-YU Aviation News that Morava Airport, which is part of its management portfolio, handled 7.269 passengers during the January - July period. Last month alone 2.747 travellers passed through its doors. Due to runway restrictions, only smaller aircraft can use Morava Airport. Therefore, all of its flights are currently operated by the ATR72 turboprop. Air Serbia maintains year-long services from Morava Airport to Istanbul, as well as seasonal summer operations to Tivat and Thessaloniki.

Does this airport have potential? Who else could start flights here with such a small plane?

    1. Croatia Airlines with dashes, Tarom maybe with ATR 42-72?

Or maybe AirSerbia getting more PSO flights.

Long term KVO has more potential than INI. All they have to do is fix the runway.

Haha good one but LJU is safe until the new runway is built.

I wouldn't be surprised if Morava overtakes Ljubljana LH Cartel Airport. Or if any other airports such as INI, OHD, PUY...

You think Morava will take over Pula which had 777k passengers in 2019?

I meant that INI, PUY, OHD take over LJU.

It wouldn't. KVO catchment area is bigger by far: Kragujevac, Čačak and Kraljevo, all within 30-35 km. Even Požega with new highway is close. Not to mention Novi Pazar and Raška oblast, ski resorts and so on.

Don't forget that Valjevo is halfway between KVO and BEG so everything between Valjevo and Cacak gravitates towards KVO. Add to that Novi Pazar with its massive diaspora and you have an airport that can handle 700.000 to 1.000.000 passengers in the next ten years especially if they keep on investing in tourism.

These results are not that bad at all. For an airport that has only existed for a few years, plus the covid situation, plus the problem with the runway. As someone said, Morava airport has great potential.

Morava airport is growing, it just takes time to fix the runway. And then other airlines will come. According to these results, Morava is currently shoulder to shoulder with airports in Croatia: Losinj, Brac and Osijek.

From the outside LJU looks better, but KVO's interior looks much better than LJU's.

    3. Anonymous13:44

LJU's interior is after expansion much, much bigger. The number of gates also.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous13:51

Bigger interior doesn't mean that it looks better. Also it doesn't matter how many gates as the airport has barely 15 flights a day.

^ have you ever been to either airport?

    6. Anonymous13:53

Yes, for now. You are forgetting colapse of Adria came 5 months before covid, meaning two big hits for this unlucky airport in less than half a year. Better times are ahead of LJU for sure.

    7. Anonymous13:59

Better times ahead? For cartel maybe.

I don't know if you noticed, but Air France, Flydubai, British and even Finnair (next year) all had great loads and increased frequencies. Turkish flies regularly on A321 also.

Once new runway is build and Moravski Koridor is finished this airport will be very attractive for low-cost airliners as even Belgrade will be just over an hour away and cost for them will be much lower.

KVO-DTM can work like a charm based on demand from NP alone. Wizz Air should be one of the first to launch this route once the runway is completed.

Maybe JU could in the future spare one A319 and operate a W pattern schedule combining both INI and KVO.

Btw I heard that KVO-IST is booming.

  10. Both INI and Morava have huge potential but more investment and marketing is necessary. And the low fare carriers are definitely coming to Morava. The only question is when.

But I don't understand something; Why is it said that Kraljevo needs a longer runway for other bigger airplanes? If New York LGA can handle the B757 with two runways of 2.144m, why can't Kraljevo get some A319/320 on it's runway of 2.265m?

It is not related to runway length but the weight bearing capacity of the runway.
