Dubrovnik Airport will put a greater focus on reducing seasonality and increasing flights during the winter months. The airport’s newly appointed General Manager, Viktor Šober, said, “Winter connectivity will be one of our priorities, however, in order to be more efficient, we will definitely need to improve synergies with the Tourist Board of Dubrovnik and the City of Dubrovnik in our negotiations with airlines. During the 2022/23 winter season, Dubrovnik Airport should be linked to four international destinations - Athens with Aegean Airlines, Istanbul with Turkish Airlines, Barcelona with Vueling and London with British Airways”. Mr Šober added, “Further negotiations are still ongoing with airlines. It is important to highlight that Freebird Airlines Europe will again operate charter flights from Dubrovnik to Central and Western Europe from late September until early December of this year, and again from February 2023”. Dubrovnik Airport handled 1.544.960 passengers during the January - August period, representing a decrease of 26.4% on the pre-pandemic 2019.

ReplyDeleteNot many things... That, combined with very often long spells of terrible weather is the reason why this is just wishfull thinking on the part of Mr. Šober.
DeleteThis so hard to understand that in country where tourism is one of top industries, place that is biggest tourist draw, has only 4 international destinations.

DeleteNot easy task. In Winter there are two kind of tourists in Western Europe. Those looking for warm temperatures, heading to Thailand, Maledives, Seychelles, Egypt, Dubai, Oman etc or the skiers heading to the Alps. What could bring tourists to the adriatic coast? Meetings, Fairs, hike and byke, however hike and byke with rain or Bura weather is not inviting. What else? Wellness and Gourmet incl wine tasting is def an option.
ReplyDeleteGreen tourism with olive harvest. There def. wont be masses. More is definitely possible but this indeed only in cooperation with the Cro government and the national tourist board
I was there last winter in december. Weather was amazing and 5* hotel pretty affordable. JU could make some winter flights there, I think it could work with a good price.
ReplyDeleteYou were lucky, but usually there is at least 50% chance you wll have terrible weather there in December, for most tourists countries with better winter weather like Spain or Egypt are much more appealing.
DeleteWe need those four months a year to get a break from the crowds. Pockets filled up to the max, we deserve a break to rest and travel a bit. Seasionality we like!

DeleteDon't understand people who are saying that wheater is terrible and there is nothing to do. Wheater is ok and regarding activities, state or local government have to put higher taxes on bars and restaurants that are closed in winter period.
ReplyDeleteHey mister, look at the weather now in Dubrovnik and the weather forecast for the next 7 days, and it's only September... The weather is not "ok", and certainly not compared to the weather in Andalusia, Egypt, Morrocco etc, you know, the preferred winter destinations. And the higher tax for closed bars, really? The bars and restaurants are closed because they don't have anyone to work for, and you would slap them with higher taxes?
DeleteBiggest problem is thinking like you, on daily basis and unfortunately most people are that. Look at long term forecast for October.
DeleteAny forecast will tell you that during winter it will rain almost 50% of time on the Adriatic, temperatures will be relatively low, there will be unpleasant winds and generally the weather will be unpleasant. Of course there are spells of very nice weather, but not nearly as in those during winter more attractive destinations. You can't escape from geographic reality... Greetings from the south of the Adriatic, which still has much more crappier weather than Spain or Morocco :)
