Air Serbia has scheduled frequency growth on select routes for the 2023 summer season. The carrier will be increasing operations on services from Belgrade to Barcelona, Rome and Vienna compared to the current summer season which ends this week. Notably, Air Serbia will more than double frequencies to Barcelona, from four weekly to nine weekly rotations. Services to Rome will be increased from daily to eleven weekly, while flights to Vienna will run a record eighteen times per week, up from fourteen. Further frequency growth is expected in the coming weeks. The 2023 summer season begins on March 26 of next year

DeleteLast night I flew BCN - BEG with Vueling on their last flight for this season, the employees wouldn’t tell me but it seemed to be 100% load factor! BEG - BCN has been on fire… noticed many Serbs, Spaniards, Croats, Bosnians, Russians, even some African-Americans
ReplyDeleteSince April I’ve been flying monthly RT BEG - BCN between Wizz, JU & Vueling, my experience is that Wizz is always near full with their A321 (I applaud their pricing strategy), JU had about 65% on a morning flight in May and 80% on an evening flight in September with A319, while VY varied between 65%, 75% & 100% :)
VY seems to be leaving the market as there are no flights for next summer.
DeleteVY are passively resuming OTP in Xmas. It will be interesting to see if they return following Tarom´s BCN withdrawl. They have been eaten alive by the competition.
DeleteForgot to add that VY is a TERRIBLE airline when it comes to punctuality. So many overbooking cases and chaotic organisation.

Strange how cargo from Italy and Turkey was makes its way via BEG on JU's flights to JFK despite direct flights and countless one stop options.

JATBEGMEL , Athens #4 in 2019 , I don't think so in 2022 the same ranking with 3 US airlines and 1 from Dubai serving the US market ! And for how many passengers from ATH are we talking about ? Most possible 20 passengers per flight in 2022 !

DeleteEven if it was 20 pax, as you mentioned, it would still be a decent number considering ATH doesn't fully connect with all of JU's JFK flights. 20 pax is still a decent number for connections considering JU's size and operations.
We can also throw in ZAG to the comments where JU covers 5% of the ZAG-JFK market despite the heavy LH and friends presence. ZAG was #7 on that same list above. Interestingly, LH despite its heavy presence in ZAG had 19% of the ZAG-JFK market in 2019.

ATH is an outlier. Transfers to JFK should be expaned and promoted to Ohrid, Tivat, Larnaca, Sofia etc, not focused on marginal revenue from Euro hubs with direct JFK service.

DeleteWhy would JU not offer connections to LCA, SOF or TIV on the JFK route? Have you actually checked that out before making the comment? Because JU actually does sell transfer tickets from their JFK flights to all 3 of those destinations. In fact, JU launched midnight flights to SOF (JU126/127) which improved connectivity options to JFK. JU also added flights to LCA not only at around 10am but also in the midday wave, which further improved connectivity on the route. You can pretty much transfer from anywhere on the JU network to the JFK flights, even from CDG, ZRH, AMS etc. Here is a trip report from Simple Flying making a ZRH-BEG-JFK routing with JU.

Lastly, JU doesn't offer JFK transfers to OHD because they stopped flying to OHD 4 years ago.

DeleteSome people think this is about exchange of burns? Nah, just trying to help. Those cities should be in the top 10 for JFK but they are not, so what can be done? Of course I know JU doesn't fly to Ohrid but looking at TIA and SKP numbers, they should. If they can time it to feed JFK, ORD and one day YYZ that would be ideal, if ATR can carry all the extra bags expected for those transfers.
DeleteLCA doesn't have connection to IST so BEG should have one less competitor for JFK flights but LCA is still not in the top 10, so what else can be done?
There will always be people flying from AMS, VIE etc via BEG.

Now try code-sharing with Iberia on the Madrid route and unlock the numerous Spanish domestic routes and Latin America you'll be doing great. Not to mention further increases to VLC and launching AGP and PMI. All golden routes.

ReplyDeleteBecause those are probably the ones they loaded now. They are probably getting new planes in the spring so it's easier to plan.

Spanish tour operators just last week met with the National Tourism Organisation here in Serbia, together with Air Serbia and Marriot Hotel. They spent 4 days in Serbia. 11 Spanish agencies met with 15 Serbian agencies in Belgrade. They visited a few places in Serbia, notably Belgrade, Novi Sad, Sremski Karlovci, Fruska Gora and Topola.
ReplyDeleteSeeing BCN increase isn't a surprise, but more than doubling frequencies definately is. I think more Spanish increases will come, possibly even a 5th Spanish destination. What is interesting to note is that JU will be focusing its fleet expansion more on the A320 rather than the A319, so not only will frequencies increase but capacity per flight as well.
Very good news indeed! I personally do not see any surprise with BCN. One of the most visited cities in Europe. Also do not see any surprise having so many Spanish agencies in Serbia. I mean Spain is one of the most visited countries in the world and Spaniards themselves love to travel and explore new places. Serbia needs to focus more on this market and not some boring destinations like Malta, Krasnodar or Brussels.
DeleteYou have the entire Iberian Peninsula that needs to be covered and explored and has very high demand. From Barcelona all the way to Porto and not even mentioning the Canary Islands or the Azores.
Madrid is also the official gateway to Latin America where there is a sizeable Yugoslav diaspora and Air Serbia can only make profit of it. There are at least 2 to 3 daily flights from Madrid to Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and Bogotá and not to mention Lima and Montevideo. Many Croats live in northern Chile for instance.
On the other hand,, JU can also collaborate with TAP which have excellent transfers via LIS to US and Canada. LIS can also be a visiting destination and not only transfer.

DeleteUS and Canada transfers should be solidified once TK and JU sign the anticipated JV. JU connects 3 Serbian cities with IST. No need for LIS. More routes and frequencies are expected to come between Turkey and Serbia soon. Rumour is IST will be boosted to 14 pw, or 21 when INI and KVO is included. No other European hub can match this.
DeleteIn Spain, JU has UX as a codeshare partner. Latin America is also pretty much covered with current Interline partners via AMS, CDG and FCO. IB would just add another option for transfers. Personally, I dislike IB. By far the rudest and most unprofessional staff I have encountered in Europe, or the world in fact.
JU isn't only "focusing" on BRU and MLA, those are destinations the airline has served for decades. BRU since 1969, MLA since 1975. Malta was an important country for JAT in the 1990's, which is where alot of its pilots kept current with their licenses, allowing them to continue flying. Ground staff in MLA old enough to have worked during that time will tell you about it with pleasure. As for KRR, it came with a much needed expansion to the east and added value to their midnight wave, when none of the Western European flights depart, which is also important.
Now buy some e90 so you can have more frequencies - about 5 would be great!
