Ryanair unveils first set of new EX-YU routes for next summer

Europe's busiest airline, Ryanair, will add six new destinations from Podgorica and the Croatian coast next year, as it continues to expand its operations throughout the former Yugoslavia. Furthermore, the budget airline plans to grow frequencies on existing services across the region. Ryanair will introduce its tenth destination from Podgorica, with flights to Gdansk launching on March 27. Services will run twice per week. Gdansk will become the fifth Polish city to be served from the Montenegrin capital. Ryanair faces no direct competition on the route. “We are very pleased with our Podgorica operations, which continue to perform strongly”, the Irish low cost carrier said.

The bulk of Ryanair’s summer expansion in the region will be focused on the Croatian coast with the introduction of five new seasonal routes. The airline will launch new services from its summer base in Zadar to Munster, Rzeszow and Milan Malpensa Airport, as well as from Rijeka to Bergamo and from Pula to Katowice. Zadar - Malpensa will run alongside Bergamo. At its Zagreb base, the carrier will restore seasonal operations to Bratislava, Brindisi, Corfu, Malmo and Thessaloniki, while flights between Zagreb and Dortmund are yet to be put on sale for next summer. The carrier has told EX-YU Aviation News that its Zagreb network for next summer season, which begins on March 26, is yet to be finalised.

Ryanair has said additional new routes will be announced in the coming weeks. “For customers looking to book early and get ahead of the summer rush, Ryanair, Europe’s most reliable airline, has announced that its summer 2023 network is now on sale, offering customers the lowest fares across its unbeatable selection of 2.500 routes to sunny hotspots and vibrant city break destinations across Europe, with even more exciting routes to be announced throughout the coming weeks”, the carrier said. The airline has also increased frequencies on select routes, such as its seasonal Niš - Corfu service, which will run three times per week, but it is yet to schedule its operations out Banja Luka for next summer.

Let's see what demand looks like next summer. Inflation is starting to go out of control and purchasing power is declining.
Trivago said that Europeans are looking for shorter stays in cheaper hotels which is an indicator of things to come. Croatia has been going crazy with pricing so let's see what happens next summer.

Ryanair might profit from its low cost structure but they are just one part of the much larger chain.

Yeah, unfortunately it is looking more and more like a major global recession is just around the corner but people have saved up big during covid and are still eager to travel and spend which will inly make inflation worse. Next year will still be a solid year but the year after could be the start of a bit of a decline which could last a few years.

    2. Anonymous13:39

COVID savings were spent this year, unfortunately. We can already see various European airports undeperform, just look at Budapest or Frankfurt, both are at -20% compared to 2019.

Well, they are starting to announce them. Wizz Air is growing nicely as well, Air Montenegro will announce a new round of routes for next summer and so on. Passenger numbers have been great so far and there are no signs of a slowdown. Like I said, MNE is literally unstoppable!

TGD can replace Russian market temporarily with Poland. This is a huge market and there are still many airports to be covered. Radom Airport which is close to Warsaw is expected to operated next year. Quite surprised there are no links yet with Modlin. It is also a Ryanair airport used quite a lot.
