Jat Tehnika marks B767 conversion milestone


Maintenance company Jat Tehnika in cooperation with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has cut off and removed part of the fuselage for the new cargo door in the first conversion of a Boeing B767-300 passenger aircraft into a cargo jet in Europe. The ceremony took place at the Jat Tehnika hangar at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, where the conversion is taking place. IAI, which said its target is to convert Boeing 777 aircraft in the future, praised Jat Tehnika, which is converting a passenger aircraft into a freighter for the first time. A second B767 aircraft, formerly operated by Pegas Fly, is already in front of the Jat Tehnika hangar awaiting its conversion. "This is an achievement that will establish our company entering the wide-body market as the main European supplier for passenger to cargo conversion for Boeing and Airbus aircraft", Jat Tehnika, which is part of the Avia Prime Group of companies, said. Avia Prime consists of Jat Tehnika in Serbia, Linetech in Poland, and Adria Tehnika in Slovenia.

The entire process of the wide-body aircraft conversion is being performed in accordance with the IAI supplemental type certificate in two production lines within Jat Tehnika's hangar number two. So far, five million euros have been invested in capacity expansion, staff training and the purchase of new machinery. "Belgrade is becoming the largest aviation hub in the Balkans and Southeastern Europe, which means that its potential will only grow. Meanwhile Avia Prime is all about growth, and our expansion will provide unique work experience, creating new job opportunities. This conversion program is the first one in this part of Europe. From all of the “firsts” that we have done this is surely the biggest one”, the CEO of Avia Prime, Piotr Kaczor, recently said.

The converted aircraft will be taken up by the cargo operator Challenge Group, as part of its fleet expansion.

    Great "achievement" indeed but what about YU-APB that is in the works for 6 months now!?!
    They should be ashamed of their work instead of celebrating cutting an opening for the door.

    6. Cargo conversions generate more money for MRO than maintenance check. Especially conversion of widebody compared to maintenance of narrowbody.
      Regarding APB check, if they founded wing skin corrosion, depending how bad it is, it's most likely reason why is that a/c stuck in hangar. There's a ton of A320 aircraft all over Europe stuck in MRO's because wing skin corrosion. Depending how bad its is, it can take months to repair (getting approved repair from Airbus can take a lot of time).

    I think this is one of the Air Canada Rouge's B767s. I flew with them on several occasions from YYZ to LIS and BCN and it was the worst legroom ever.

    Wondering why they didn't change the name away from Jat Tehnika? New company has nothing to do with Jat or JAT as both JaTs are long gone. Same for Adria.

      What is the global brand recogition of Jat in 2023? Does it invoke a sense of reliability, technical excellence and expertise like Lufthansa Technik? If not, why keep it?

      Because it is one of the oldest maintenance companies in Europe under its current name. You don't have to rename and destroy everything.

      But it has nothing to do with the original company. Not owned by Serbia any more, not even a Serbian owned company. It just part of some corporate multinational.
      In a way keeping the name degrades the memory of JAT.
      JAT was great when it existed. The memory lives on, but it is long since gone.

      So when company BMW buys Jaguar or Tata Motors buys Rolls-Royce they should not keep the name because it degrades memory of the company and they should change it to BMW and Tata Motors.....interesting thinking.

    Veoma velika promena i uspeh koji se dogodio na Aerodromu Nikola Tesla Beograd. Konverzija aviona. Obzirom na razvoj avio inzenjeringa solidna buducnost prestoji Srbiji. Jos bi imao da predlozim
    gradnju novog hangara i remontnog centra za avio motore svih velicina. Sto bi bilo pogodno graditi pored gradnje nove piste i kargo centra koja se treba graditi na aerodromu Morava Kraljevo. Obzirom da pista po predlogu treba biti 4.000 × 45 metara.
    Kategorije nosivosti 4F. Obzirom da cetiri kraka autoputeva i zeleznica nepostedno prolaze pored aerodroma Morava Kraljevo .
    Verujem da ako bi se ponudile mogucnosti prosirenja Maintenance Repair Organization u Srbiji, IAI - Israel Airspace Industry bi sagledala nove mogucnosti rasta avio biznisa u Srbiji.
    Rekoh i dusu spasoh. Stici ce i ove misli kao ideja i zelja za rast vazduhoplovne privrede u zemlji Srbiji.

  7. Dragi Anon 11:33. I pored stalnog pisanja mojeg Imena i prezimena, kod vaznih ljudi ni to dovoljno nije?.
    Ipak Vam hvala sto ste mozda poverovali da se licno javljam na ovom blogu. Za razliku od uvazenih Anon-a.
    Uvazavam Vase misljenje o meni. Za mene bih mogao da upotrebim Srpsku poslovicu. "Sta cu kod Morave kada neznam da plivam". Ovih 53 godine druzenja sa aerodrima i avionima, ljubav prema komercijalnoj avijaciji i vera su vera
    I saznanje znacajnog u mojem zivitu. To je izbor, mogucnost i sloboda. To sam otkrio ploveci u podnebesju Gospodnjem sirom ove prelepe planete sa dosta nepoverljivih ljudi. Ipak po nekad je dobro udaljiti se od Morave, daleko. Negde odakle sam i doleteo.
