Georgian airports to hold talks with Air Serbia

Airport operator United Airports of Georgia has said it will hold talks with Air Serbia at the ongoing CONNECT Route Development Forum in the Moroccan city of Tangier. The operator highlighted talks with Air Serbia, noting it is an opportunity to launch cooperation between the two. Some 600 delegates from 75 airlines and 280 airports from sixty countries are taking part in the 19th edition of the annual event. In 2019, Georgia and Serbia signed a joint declaration in Tbilisi with the aim of advancing cooperation between the two states. An emphasis was put on the launch of nonstop flights. The matter was discussed in more detail at an Intergovernmental Economic Commission in Tbilisi later on but plans to establish flights were halted by the Covid-19 pandemic. There have never been scheduled nonstop services between the two.

      why do you think would be different for Wizz than for AS? There is no demand for travel on this route, yet, for both....Been traveling on a monthly basis for the last year and a half to Caucasus ( Azerbaijan and Georgia), from Bellgrade ( and Budapest), and I saw it with my own eyes....Within more than 40 flights during this time, I saw 3-4 pax in total, from Balkans...Georgians and Azeri don`t go to Southeast Europe as well....It can work only as 100% transfer, but I doubt, they have better connections...

      Wizz cant fly between the two countries, as neither is in the EU and Wizz does not have the AOC in neither of the two countries. Same reason it cant fl between Serbia and Montenegro

      Georgia can be a good once or twice a week option for AS or Wizz if prices are decent. Tbilisi and even Georgian coast can be an attractive destination for Serbs since its cheap, and Serbs go into hell for vacation if they don`t have to pay much. Its a price sensitive market, BEG is a decent transfer hub. Demand may not be visible, but its there and it can be boosted. Some ppl see a problem and limitations, some see a chance. :D

      There might be some Serbians who want to go to Tblissi but there probably would be any demand for the Georgian coast(or they really needs bargain). Serbs can go cheaply to Turkey,Tunesia,Egypt, Chalkediki which are much nicer than the Georgian coast which is nice to visit if you live close by but not to that nice to fly 1000 km. Besides they need to choose one city and that will be probably Tblissi which is 5 hour driving from the coast.

    Well, if you look at statistics and airlines that serve three main airports in Georgia situation is really mixed -
    Kutaisi - around million pax per year, served mostly by Wizz, Batumi - around 600.000 per year served only by Turkish as legacy and Tbilisi with 3.5 million served by every major airline.
    JU could start Tbilisi (the same way they could start Baku and Yerevan), BUT as long as they have closer routes that can have higher yields IT IS NOT GONNA HAPPEN!
    If JU can send A319/320 five times per day to Tivat and earn 50.000 EUR out of five rotations instead of sending the same aircraft ONCE to Tbilisi and earn, lets say, 30.000...math is clear...

      It could be seen only as an investment and for cargo.

      Also, if they have sufficient amount of aircraft, why not earn there AND in Tivat.

      If Revenue manager says NO its a NO. And up to now JU Revenue management is in huge fight with Network planning as Networks went ROGUE and Revenues are freaking out.
      All departments want to perform well and they are antagonists in most times because, if you ask Networking JU would already introduce 4 more China airports and 3 more US but Revenues says NO.
      In general, big drama.
      Ps. 3rd A330 and 4th A330 are coming in one month difference this year.

    Its amazing what Jarek has done with Air Serbia and he is trying to develop new routes but sadly he is limited by the government. Serbia does not have enough commercial or public connection with Georgia or Armenia to increase the demand.

    Gruzija has 3 operational airports given its small size and population and all quite different. A good start would be to connect BEG and TBS and at a later stage BEG-BUS seasonal service. Also comes handy for the Russians.
