NEWS FLASH
Wizz Air has discontinued ticket sales for its Ohrid - London Luton service, eight years since the route’s launch. Flights between the two cities initially ran on a seasonal basis but were later upgraded to year-round only to be relegated back to seasonal operations some time later. At this point, the budget carrier will maintain flights from Ohrid to Basel, Dortmund, Malmo, Memmingen and Vienna during the 2023 summer season, however, Wizz Air has submitted a proposal for the launch of new routes to the Macedonian government in return for incentives, with the plan likely to include new services from Ohrid this summer, if the carrier is selected.
Mark my words, this will be a summer of cuts as EU's economy cools down. New data is out and is not looking good. Dutch manufacturing recorded its 7th month of contraction, Sweden is experiencing a wave of bankruptcies, UK economy is set to perform worse than the Russian one, December exports in Germany fell by over 6% and so on.
ReplyDeleteThere is going to be less disposable income so people will travel less.
Notice how all of those had "all are welcome" policy in the past? It has nothing to do with overall economic situation but it all has to do with public budget simply not being able to comprehend the vast overspend
DeleteDoom and gloom predictions. Let’s frighten the people into submission. Not need to panic: corporations and even smaller companies have been recording record profits since 2016, if not earlier. Plenty of money to go around! So if things “cool down” a bit, there really is no need to panic. If corporate and bank losses are the taxpayers’ problem (remember the “crisis” of ‘08?), so should the profits be. Right? Regarding aviation: just read on the BBC the other day that several airlines are recording record bookings for ‘23.
DeleteNothing about scaring people, these are facts. There is a reason why airlines are starting to cut flights. People are not spending as much. The other day it was BA, today LH and so on.
DeleteExcuse me, but most airlines say that they see good bookings for summer 2023. Just one lowcost stopping flights from Luton to Ohrid is not an indicator for the collapse of air traffic in Europe.
DeleteLondon and Ohrid are not in EU. People never get tired of EU collapsing stories.
DeleteBA and LH announced major cuts in their network the past week. Especially BA. Also easyJet announced a whole series of new routes and among them was just one new in our region, I think VCE-DBV 1x.
DeleteEconomy is slowing down, that's an unediable fact.
Pent-up demand for leisure traffic will be trimmed by the price increases this summer. Economic growth is slowing left and right, I have a feeling that the planned major expansions in the region may not achieve targeted results, if not cancelled in advance due to the shortage of supply.
ReplyDeletePlus the ECB just hiked interest rates once again so that will impact the economy even more
DeleteAll this doom and gloom because Wizz is cancelling 1 route from Ohrid? This is routine for Wizz
ReplyDeleteThe following routes will also be suspended by Wizzair in Luton next month:
ReplyDeleteFunchal, Málaga, Palanga, Porto, Reykjavik, Rzeszcow, Sarajevo, Tenerife-South.
Obviously, W6 have failed miserably in Luton.....
Dortmund Airport is also not doing well at all. Not to mention that Aeroitalia have not yet put their Forli destinations on sale for next month....
I was heavily criticized for doubting Aeroitalia, i guess i was right
DeleteAeroitalia is a joke of an airline, don’t trust them, they announced many flights from Bergamo before cancelling almost all of them because they won PSO flights from Sardinia. They don’t answer any email and don’t pay compensations for delays and cancellations, stay away from this company.
DeleteI'm a firm believer in the regenerative powers of North Macedonian aviation sector.
ReplyDeleteWhat?
DeleteRegenerative powers = tenders
DeleteNo problem. They can go and fly from TIA 148 km away.
ReplyDeleteI think Air Serbia are making a mistake over expanding all in one year. They should grow at a slower speed as there will be economic problems later this year across Europe and Airline bookings will slow down!
ReplyDeleteBroken record
DeleteWould anyone know the load factors on this this route last summer?
ReplyDeletePa nemase ni potreba da leta, od ohrid ni treba konekcija do italija
ReplyDeleteWhat language even is this. Either write in cyrillic, or if you prefer "latinica" then maybe Serbo-Croatian, or better yet - English.
DeleteOhrid should be happy that at least they have some flights, with high prices during the summer ( they will even charge you money if you ask them to put your phone on charger ) and with 0 kindness to the tourists, five routes are more then enough :)
ReplyDeletepls stop with the bs
