Air Serbia launching new retail shop, opens new call centre

NEWS FLASH

Air Serbia has announced plans for the launch of a new retail shop in Belgrade, following on from the recent opening of a new call centre in Niš. The new retail shop will be located on the second floor in the largest shopping mall in Serbia - Galerija Belgrade - in the city’s Waterfront neighbourhood. It will complement its existing retail shop in downtown Belgrade, as well as the one at its headquarters in New Belgrade. Furthermore, the airline is developing a new service desk at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport with an open-space U-shape style design with eight agent seats as an additional touchpoint for customers.

Recently, the Serbian carrier opened its second call centre. Located in downtown Niš, the new facility employs sixty people. Of those, fifty are working as call centre agents, while a further ten have been hired as Centralised Load Control (CLC) agents who have joined Air Serbia Ground Services (ASGS), a subsidiary of Air Serbia, and are now providing support for aircraft ground operations.

  1. What they need is a new business lounge in Belgrade

Amen to that. Although the existing one isn't too bad compared to many airports elsewhere, but with the new centralized security and passport control, it's somewhat far away from everything else at the airport...

Since they let in passengers from other airlines, passengers booking certain economy tariffs and holders of Prioritypass, etc. the lounge is often full. While I understood this measure during Covid, now often there is no seating for people who actually paid a premium fare or hold a relevant status with JU.

Unfortunately, because they receive a fixed fee for every lounge visit, they have significantly downgraded the meal and drink offering. The days of à la carte are over. Also, the lounge is starting to show significant wear and tear. It's time for a change: JU really need to work on their premium offering for business passengers and status holders.

In any case, their lounge is still way better than what Dufry offers, horrible reviews on Google Maps. The last time I was there they didn't have food after 6PM and many of the chairs were damaged, toilet doors couldn't be locked, etc.

Hello... Belgrade Waterfront is not controversial at all. Actually Belgrade Waterfront is very popular and accepted by the people in Belgrade. You can see that by the number of visitors every day. Especially when weather is nice it is full of families with children with pets and foreign visitors and it is very pleasant for walk, clean and safe. From like Beton Hala up to the Belgrade Galerija you can not find a free space to seat in the caffes or restaurants and Shopping Mall it self is always very busy and obviously popular and you can find all major brands and nice things to buy. Only in the heads of small group of people it is controversial as they are repeating, shouting and barking all the time and beeing negative for political reasons as they are directed by those who oppose success and fantastic progress of Serbia economically. Of course there are different tastes and oppinions, but in general we people of Belgrade love this project and believe that is great success. That story that is controversial doesn't really comply with the real situation. Looking great and great place for Air Serbia... Proud of my country Serbia and its achievements.

And I was finally thinking that they got their act together. And they open a retail shop in Galerija?! All airlines are CLOSING their walk-in shops, and moving their entire business online (and to some extent to agencies) due to costs. There is no serious airline in the world that is doing this.

For those outside Serbia that might not be aware - Galerija (as well as the whole Belgrade Waterfront project) is a controversial project of the current ruling class. Even after several years of being open, Galerija shopping mall hasn't been able to lease all of it's space.

Galerija is the biggest shopping mall in the Balkans.. with over 90,000 visitors a day on their busy days.. it’s the best possible option. Also majority of Serbs still like to deal with their matters in person rather than online. Also what does Belgrade waterfront being controversial have to do with anything? No one is making a fuss about anymore.

Their walk in sales office in Bulevar is PACKED. Last year I had to go twice there to make a modification to my ticket and had to wait at least 20 minutes each time. It was full of people, mostly Russians.

Is this possibly connected to payment for Russian passengers? As far as I know, there are difficulties with Visa and Mastercard.

When I was there most were changing around flight dates and/or buying tickets. I remember a woman was trying to alter a date for her mother coming from Sochi.

All those things should be done online, and not in a retail shop. A retail shop should be something which makes profits/sells products and services. It is a well known fact that airlines DO NOT operate retail shops, as it's not profitable for them. Even if they do it, they have it in low cost environments, or where it's strictly necessary, for example airports. This is CRAZINESS on a whole new level.

^ You must know best. Btw Singapore Airlines recently opened a new retail shop in a shopping mall in downtown Singapore. Oh and Emirates celebrated the opening of its newest retail store in Dubai just a month ago. I guess they didn't get your memo.

Prior to the "current ruling class" taking any action, the area that encompasses the existing Belgrade Waterfront looked like a mixture of Kandahar and Lagos. It was absolutely vile, chaotic, and disorganised. Especially with all the potential of finally bringing the city down to its rivers.

Galerija is a great shopping centre. Nice assortment of shops and some pleasant river-facing restaurants. Additionally, the promenade took that entire area out of the stone age and the graveyard of riverboats that coexisted there with homeless shacks and some alternative kafanas.
So kudus to the "ruling class" and good luck to JU with their new shop. Not sure on which floor it will be - hopefully closer to the ground floor where there are higher traffic volumes.

Wow, filling the empty store in shopping center connected to govt. will be subject to some investigation in the future. This is a no-go.

One joint venture owned by the Serbian state and the UAE doing business with another joint venture with the same owners. Legally, there is not much to investigate here, except maybe how these joint ventures came about.

You can have what was there prior to 2020. I prefer the area now.

This is just because the authorities probably conditioned them to open anything in that shopping center. Same way thay do with entrepreneurs to buy their apartments in BW otherwise they send all kinds of inspections that end up costing them twice as much as if they had bought anapartment. Disgusting!
