jetBlue to become Air Serbia’s US partner

Air Serbia and jetBlue have reached a codeshare agreement pending government approval. The two carriers have submitted an application with the United States Department of Transportation to be issued a permit for reciprocal codeshare flights. Under the deal, jetBlue will place its “B6” designator code and flight numbers onto Air Serbia’s services between Belgrade and New York, as well as between Belgrade and Chicago. On the other hand, Air Serbia will place its “JU” designator code and flight numbers onto 26 jetBlue destinations from New York to other points in the United States and the Dominican Republic. They include: Atlanta, Boston, Buffalo, Charleston, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Ontario (California), Orlando, Phoenix, Portland (PDX), Portland (PWM), Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Raleigh-Durham, San Diego, San Francisco, Santiago (Dominican Republic), Santo Domingo, Tampa and West Palm Beach.

The two carriers will enable the sale of tickets on each other’s flights for the abovementioned routes. In their filing to the Department, the two airlines said, “Air Serbia and jetBlue are parties to a new codeshare agreement pursuant to which (i) Air Serbia will display jetBlue’s B6 designator code on flights operated by Air Serbia between any point or points in the United States and any point or points in the Republic of Serbia (either nonstop or via intermediate points) and beyond to any point or points in any third country and (ii) jetBlue will display Air Serbia’s JU designator code on flights operated by jetBlue between Air Serbia’s US gateways and any point or points in the United States and beyond to any point or points in any third country in conjunction with foreign air transportation of passengers held out by Air Serbia”.

jetBlue operates both domestic and international flights. Founded in 1998, it has grown to become the sixth-largest airline in the United States by passengers carried. It is known for its affordable fares, customer-friendly policies, and distinctive branding. It operates flights to over 100 destinations in the United States, the Caribbean, Central and South America and most recently to the United Kingdom and France. It is set to commence operations to Amsterdam next month. Its primary hubs are located at New York JFK, Boston, and Fort Lauderdale.

The two sides have also requested a waiver of the 45-day filing requirement. “The joint applicants intend to commence these codeshare services as soon as all necessary government approvals are received”, the carriers said in their submission. Air Serbia has been working on securing a US partner for some time. The latest development comes in a string of high-profile codeshare agreements the Serbian carrier has concluded this year, which include Qatar Airways, an expansion of its agreement with Turkish Airlines to include destinations in Canada, and an expected codeshare partnership with Hainan Airlines. Furthermore, Air Serbia has restored its cooperation with Air China. The Serbian carrier has been trying to secure a US partner since its commenced operations to New York in 2016.

    9. At least Croatia Airlines codeshares with United which matches OU's business model. JetBlue is the wrong partner for Air Serbia. Their business models don't match. Air Serbia is a full service Airline, Jet Blue operates a low cost model. American or Delta would be a better choice for Air Serbia.

By the way, it's not enough to merely be a tourist destination. Just look at Budapest which lost so many US flights over the years, from American Airlines, Malev, Delta to LOT.

Who actually cares whether some mediocre regional carrier, that’s been on life support since it had a stroke years ago, has codeshares with anybody? The only viable airline in this damned avlija of ours is JU. Period. Don’t understand why people try to cling onto imaginary hooks when they are obviously in a free fall. Narrating some sci-fi fantastical stories about your ever-present surplus of prestige compared to the remaining poor serfs that surround you, is truly mind-boggling. Especially considering how everyone in this region is so insignificant within the bigger scope of things. The difference is that some have the vision and mettle to dip their asses into the fast-flowing cold river, while others remain crypto-Marxist employers of positive zero targets.

Negative reactions to positive news about Air Serbia are constant occurence. Comments are frequently comparing two largest airlines in the region. Purveyors of smaller of those two airlines are triggered by both ineptitude and passiveness of their airline on one side and agility and growth of the bigger airline on the other side.

I am travelling twice a year and usually on Lufthansa or LH/UA combo via FRA/MUC. AA just started interline partnership with Air Serbia couple of months ago and it's already available. For example, you can go on Air Serbia web site and book LAX-BEG flight with first leg operated by AA and second by JU.

B6 has been an interline partner with JU for a long time so codeshare is the next step in the realtionship. AA and B6 have been attempting to make an alliance anyway, so JU partnership with both AA and B6 is not conflicting.
