Airport operator TAV Macedonia is working on establishing new flights from Skopje Airport, with an emphasis on services to Western European capitals, as well as additional destinations in Eastern Europe. General Manager, Nejat Kurt, said, “TAV's marketing team visits aviation and tourism fairs and has meetings with airlines and tour operators, to convince them to open new desired and attractive destinations from the two Macedonian airports. Our current network of airlines from the Macedonian capital is geographically concentrated mostly in Northern Europe. We would like to expand our network of airlines to the main centres and capitals of Western Europe, as well as routes to Eastern Europe”.
Skopje Airport welcomed Norwegian Air Shuttle’s inaugural seasonal service from Oslo this Friday. It follows on from Lufthansa’s launch of its new year-round Frankfurt flights this April. “These two are of great importance to us because they will contribute to greater competition, which is one of the accelerators for market growth”, Mr Kurt said. He added, “As an airport operator, we are working very hard to attract new airlines that will start flying from the two Macedonian airports and to open new destinations that will be useful for Macedonian citizens, as well as flights to desired leisure destinations. Currently, we have a total of 54 destinations and 21 airlines from Skopje”.
Year after year, Brussels and Amsterdam have topped the list as some of the busiest unserved destinations from Skopje in Western Europe, despite Wizz Air serving the likes of Charleroi and Eindhoven. Other cities seeing significant indirect traffic to and from the Macedonian capital include Paris Charles de Gaulle, Prague, Dusseldorf, Munich and Ljubljana, with the latter to be launched by Wizz Air this September. Some of Turkish Airlines’ busiest Skopje transfer destinations include London Heathrow and Madrid. On the other hand, LOT sees considerable feed on its Skopje operations to and from Oslo, Amsterdam, Vilnius and Copenhagen. Austrian is the number one transfer airline between Macedonia and both Brussels and Amsterdam with a market share of over 40%.
The two national carriers from the former Yugoslavia also see significant transfer traffic on their Skopje operations. Air Serbia has benefited greatly from the demise of Adria Airways on its services to the Macedonian market, becoming the number one carrier for passengers traveling between Skopje and Ljubljana. It also sees notable traffic to Rome, Amsterdam, Zurich and Paris originating or destined to Skopje. Its Croatian counterpart has excelled in offering connections to other Star Alliance hubs, primarily Frankfurt. It also sees feed between its Skopje operations and Brussels, Amsterdam, Munich and Zurich.
Finally
ReplyDeleteTransavia would be a great addition from AMS.
ReplyDeleteIf Transavia can always fill a 737 from LJU, I don't see why it couldn't do the same to SKP.
DeleteI agree that attracting more airlines from main airports is a must.
ReplyDeleteThe positive thing is that Wizz has started adding more and more primary airports to its network.
ReplyDeleteTrue. From SKP I know they fly to Copenhagen, Berlin and Milan main airports. Soon also to Luxembourg.
DeleteFCO
DeleteAs well as VCE during winter.
DeleteMaybe it’s time for Air France to launch SKP
ReplyDeleteYou’re totally right. Definitely Air France is needed in Skopje for both P2P passengers and transfers to North America
DeleteIf you want North American transfers BA is the best option form LHR. I flew from LHR to TIA I’ll say half on board were American.
DeleteBritish Airways is also good of course, I had the opportunity to fly with on my trip from CDG to JFK (via LHR) and their product was very good on the A320neo (while the LHR-JFK was operated by AA), given that they do an amazing job toward their customers, fast reply on Twitter and free checked-in luggage (initially supposed to be onboard with me).
DeleteBut London is well served from Skopje and it's around while Paris isn't that much (only two weekly flights to BVA) while London is daily from Skopje and Pristina, that's why Air France is a better option for me.
London Luton is daily from SKP, or an another London Aiport?
DeleteIt's just 3 weekly so I'm not sure what he's talking about
DeleteMy mistake indeed, LTN is only three weekly from Skopje and daily from Pristina. I mistook myself while typing.
DeleteThey need to find a replacement for BCN which was flown by Wizz and was rather full.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteVueling would be perfect. Its an LCC but allows connections onto Iberia and other IAG airlines
DeleteI’d rather see Ryanair flying BCN-SKP than Vueling tbh, but both are great tho
DeleteHow come Wizz didn't resume it?
DeleteTIA effect😅
Delete@4.53 lol sure thats why LJU and LUX and a sixht aircratf. The stuff you read on here ....
DeleteHope Norwegian makes SKP year round
ReplyDeleteLOT has feeds to Copenhagen.
ReplyDeleteI thought Wizzair flies to Copenhagen?
Yes they do, there are three weekly flights to CPH during winter and summer.
DeleteHahahaha, Skopje has more carriers and more destinations than Zagreb. Bravo Hrvatska! Bravo Kradeze! Full speed ahead filling your pockets!
ReplyDeleteRyainair in Zagreb not growing as planned and Wizz or EasyJet not opening a base at a private commercial airport has to do with government policy? Interesting, learned something again, thanks.
DeleteI would also say that people should be happy that ZAG operator at least offered crazy discounts so Ryanair could come. In LJU absolutely no discounts were offered from Fraport to attract an LCC.
Deletesad that it only works with discounts because there is not enough demand or the prices achieved are not sufficient. Except for Beograd, this applies to most airports in ex-yu.
Delete@09.55
DeleteIt has everything to do with government policy. Kradeze governments made people poorer and with less possibilities to travel, talking about those still in Croatia. Kradeze governments forced people leave Croatia in massive numbers and travel for holidays to various destinations from the countries where they live. But those countries are in the most cases close to Croatia and not plane but car is used for short visits. Kradeze governments made flag carrier pathetic feeder and humiliated servant instead doing sinergy with its base airport and making it hub for SE Europe. That would result in much better connectivity and consequently much more opportunities for other carriers joining, similar as in BEG. Kradeze governments protected OU by not letting or chasing away LCC for two decades, which changed with FR, but only as a result of pLandemic and FR operations in ZAG happening in very specific times and period is too short to say not growing as planned. The reasons why an airline is not opening a base somewhere are that many and that complex that mentioning it in this context is absolutely irrelevant. And you are welcome, with all your patronizing attitude
Not theirs, but it’s your attitude that stinks! Boring as ever too!
Delete@10.46 didnt Wizz get discounts too? not to mention state aid to their own legacy carrier
DeleteAlways making it about Croatia, dear Christ. And now these pathetic excuses. This guy is a complete joke
DeleteIf he were serious, he should be crying to the government and not complaining on an aviation sight. Probably one of those who was rejected for a job when CTN was formed. Now he keeps on crying.
DeleteI too do feel sorry for whoever is hiding behind those pathetic posts!
DeleteAccording to the legend he was one of the first revolutionaries who introduced ancient 737s and built strong European network. Just as they were going to open flights to US, Kradeze took over and handed the company to the Germans who made sure it transformed into pathetic servant feeder for mama Lufti. However, the credibility of this fairytale is rather questionable.
DeleteSkopje needs Paris , Munich , Amsterdam the most .. and possibly maybe Madrid one day too ... I feel that Doha and Dubai will be restored next year :))
ReplyDeleteIf I remember well this isn't the first time they are seeking these same flights. Means no one showed interest before
ReplyDeleteThey will show interest only if the government giwe them money ...
Delete@11.55 lol haters gonna hate
Delete13:17 I am wrong ? Why lufthansa comes to SKP , because they recieve money for that routr , not because they wanted .
Delete@13.17 biggest BS I have read ever on here doenst even deserve a reply. Haha! Good luck with 7€ per pax!. HAHA how much hate one can have. (they announced the flight months before the tender). Its pure envy
Deleteit was meant for @14.22
DeleteTransavia, Eurowings should fly to Skp
ReplyDeleteHow is Lufthansa performing on its Skopje route?
ReplyDeleteI fly with them few days ago in Monday ,the A319 was full , only 5 seats empty ... And I also know from people who been on this route said that the planes are always full ...
DeleteGreat to hear
DeleteFlew SKP-FRA on the afternoon flight of the 16th of May, bizarrely the A319 had only 25-30 passengers, but think (and hope!) their loads are better than on that very flight.
DeleteIn April (they started around the 23rd I think) they had 76-77% in direction FRA-SKP which is a good start I would say
DeleteNow June they have full load factot , it will ne also July , Augusg , September and Octomber , then its possible little down with numbers ...
DeleteIs there any official data to confirm this?
DeleteLH has scheduled A321 for todays flight to SKP.
Delete"Some of Turkish Airlines’ busiest Skopje transfer destinations include London Heathrow and Madrid."
ReplyDeleteMadrid?
Vienna has better options for connecting through Heathrow from SKP , this is my personal experience , instead of istanbul ,really weird ....
DeleteEurowings = DUS
ReplyDeletewould be interesting to see if ITA Airways will come to SKP once they have their A220s which would be a good aircraft to start with
ReplyDeleteI pray for that. Sick and tired of flights at 4 am to attend one or two meetings. ITA please start flying to Sarajevo and Skopje
DeleteSKP really needs a more frequent direct flight to London.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see BA, Qatar or/and some UAE airline.
ReplyDeletewonder which eastern destinations are on their list. Perhaps PRG
ReplyDeleteWould be nice to see Transavia KLM to AMS and flights with Eurowings / LH to Munich
ReplyDeletePlease daily flight to FCO. It is always packed. Why not?
ReplyDeletewill be increased to 5 weekly
